  1. Sorry I missed this, Rob. This IS the stuff to get you hooked. I know I'll be hooked after my first...
  2. I'm in for this. Ken, can you provide some details about the technical group... i.e. can I ride my plated 2-stroke with 80-mile range? Or, should I plan to scoot the DR with Arnie?

    Red bull mx national!

I may join you for a day, Andy. Anyone have any trail riding suggestions near/beyond Glen Helen? I have a 3-day weekend and looking to ride some new singletrack...

I'm in Encinitas (on da beach!) with a spare room (and scooters?), and happy to help any members, in any way...
  5. Turns out that I broke one of the welded aluminum tabs (or maybe it's chromoly?) that holds my silencer/pipe to the subframe on the GasGas today whilst chasing Crusty et al in dem hills above San Marcos. Problem is, I have our training ride with MotoVentures this Friday morning! Can anyone please give me a hand with the repair this week? Of course, I will supply the beer and foods (and USDs?) if we can get this done in time... Here's a link to a photo: http://i1290.photobucket.com/albums/b521/mtnmanseth/Mobile%20Uploads/IMAG1402_zpsppds2sd6.jpg Thanks in advance!!
  6. I found no mention of stop signs. I've always wondered if it's legal to split lanes through traffic backed up at stop signs on the PCH where there either are four lanes (two in each direction, separated by dotted white) or riding along (or in?) the designated bicycle lane past single lane traffic backed up at a stop sign. Anyone know?

Who can weld aluminum... This week?

Quick THANK YOU to Arnie and Clint for the beer drinking outing in Ramona the other night. And I seem to recall there being some successful aluminum alloy welding on a certain GasGas subframe, too. Thank you both for helping me out in a pinch. The tab has held great through the MotoVentures class, and a couple tough rides on Jamulian ST + Corral Canyon Bronco Peak loops (with a few tip-overs). I don't care what they say about about you, Arnie... haha. Cheers!

I'm in for Sunday at 9:30 am! I'm coming from Encinitas if anyone would like to bikepool...
  10. I think that's the final lesson on the MotoVentures syllabus on Friday, Paul...

    Hillclimbing 101......

Who can weld aluminum... This week?

Thanks so much, Arnie (and Ken). Unless someone is much closer to Encinitas, I'll plan on coming to you in the next few evenings. And, yeah, I should have known that the material isn't aluminum... I was pretty tired (and still hungover from the Padres game ) after our canyon rip around San Marcos today! Anyway, I've checked the GasGas forum and I'm pretty sure it's chromoly. So, I'll give you a jingle tomorrow - it'll be good to catch up and I want to pick your brain about a rip-to-the-tip SD -> Cabo tour this December (i.e. best way to ship/truck bikes back, recommended route, critical gear, best beaches for bikinis, etc)...
  13. "Ruts"? More like canyons! Among the more challenging rides in SoCal for me thus far. The Spaniard is home with a bent front brake lever and both bar mounts, and I'm home humbled with A LOT of respect for you veteran riders today, you guys rip! Thanks for the tour, Crusty, looking forward to the next! Can't wait for photos...
  14. Was headed back to Corral Canyon, but this sounds new and fun and challenging... The Spaniard (plated) and I will see you guys @ 11 am at AMPM...
  15. I've never raced before, might be a good start for me... I'm likely...
  16. Sunday Funday at Lark? I've ridden most of Corral Canyon (several times) and interested in switching it up tomorrow and head to Lark. I've never been... Anyone available to show me around? I plan to be there by 10 am. Sorry for late notice, let's ride!
  17. Just installed new front bearings, new front tire (thanks TrophyHunter), and repacked headset bearings on the GasGas... Can anyone meet me at Pine Valley exit for a quickie evening rip into Corral Canyon and back tomorrow, Friday April 4th? Lets ride!
  18. I plan to be at the Pine Valley exit trailhead @ 3:45, motor running @ 4:00... hope to see ya!

    Just some DR maintenance.

Nice work, Ken. The Acerbis tanks sure look nice...
  20. I ride Corral Canyon weekly (and monthly in Ocotillo) on my Bridgestone M404(rear)/M403(front) tires and love them. They definitely last longer than MX51s! I will, however, be trying out Motoz offerings, as I continue to hear much good about the Motoz brand, too...
  21. Hi all, I'm prepping for the weekend in Ocotillo Wells and have some new Dunlop 606s to install on my DR. I have the wheels off the bike but decided long ago that tire changing is NOT something I ever, ever want to do again. I'll do everything else, but wrestling a tire onto a rim with hand tools (twice) ain't how I want to spend my evening. I live in Encinitas and work in Del Mar and I'm looking for a shop or savvy individual (with tools) to swap my tires. Any suggestions? Thank you in advance!

I wish YouTube had a repeat button for this one. All their short films are great!
  23. Hi Friends, The OEM steel tank on my 2007 DR650 with 8,000 miles randomly sprung a leak the other day. Hairline crack on the underside of the tank (in the concave portion for the frame top tube) so thin I literally cannot feel or see it. Suuuuuuper slow little weep... no drips. I'm about to drop several hundo into a new high-comp piston + valve guides/seals (many of you already know why) and don't want to put another $300 into a new tank right now. Can I weld a hairline crack on a metal tank that's obviously developed at a thin spot or high wear/vibration point? Any suggestion for EXPERIENCED (and SAFE) gas tank welders/repairs? Even better... anyone have a used/clean/functional aftermarket IMS or Acerbis 5 gallon DR650 tank for sale?
