  1. Used to race on dirt ovals and can recall the track prep guys using lime from time to time, seems like a really common practice. I guess lime and standing water/ mud pits don't mix! I wonder if the track prep guys saw the forecast and just loaded the lime on ...

This article gives a little insight into the incident.

Anybody wanna go ride the mud around the Salton Sea!!?

  2. I've been to busy at work to follow the event this year.

Some highlights are starting to appear...

Price rode for days and won on a broken wrist, WOW.

The amount of suffering required to even FINISH this race is unbelievable. The candid videos of competitors breaking down mentally, crashing etc, getting back up and trudging onward is inspirational.

Pablo was pushing so hard to keep the lead 😥

    Dunes intimidate for a reason...

I need to find another chase vehicle. Carguy is not sure if he can make it. I need someone who can drive around to different points to see if people need their bike extracted or any other minor issues. I will provide a sat phone for comms.

  4. Welcome! Yeah, another windscreened 600!

I think I saw that bike on craigslist... I'm guessing you scored with that one, congratulations!

Seems getting comfortable standing and just having more ride time is the best thing you can do at this point. To start, I'd suggest linking as many "fire roads" together as you can. Boulder Creek Road, Black Canyon etc. Your tires will do fine on anything other than mud, sand, steep climbs/descents (perfect for fire roads), by the time you wear that rear out you'll have a better idea of the type of riding you want to be doing and tire that would be ideal for you at that time. Heading straight to sand or mud with that beauty might be regrettable.

  5. So many appreciated comments here. No perfect bike, everyone's perfect is just a bit different. Seems every ride is different.

I guess I'm just looking for a bike I can ride with confidence to the East coast and take ANY dirt road along the way.

No trailers, no trucks. Load the bike DOWN and go...

Dang my 990 was a beast, above 75 ambient, she got hot shortly after it wasn't going 40mph,  disliked slowing down approaching turns off road. Great on the street, loved doing drifting burnout wheelies. Just don't drop it by your self, uuugh.

Xr650r single, good almost everywhere, but I feel bad for it while doing 85 on the highway, up to Apple valley, rip to hot springs, simmer soak #noyogapantsdoh , hit some single track, head home.

Ya gotta be able to pick it up by your self. We've all been there... "Fuuug, I can't pick this thing up! C'mon partner, get up!" Like a fellow creature just down for the count, fluids returning to the earth, glug glug.....

For me, I can see a small twin being just smooth, powerfull, and reliable enough to do it all in comfort.

    Verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

May some engineering department think it's a great idea to apply funding/brains/time to my fantasy bike/engine combo. 🤣

    No, really, It'd be a great bike.🤞

  6. haha, COOL. I like it Mark! https://www.psychologytoday.com/us/blog/living-forward/201806/3-effective-visualization-techniques-change-your-life

When we were in Baja I didn't sleep much. Every time I started drifting off I'd be riding again, pushing too hard to 110%, flying off that one turn and that one. Certainly, I didn't like the "feeling" of falling off that cliff... Yeah, I'm not doing that tomorrow. Better to make mistakes in our sleep! I also enjoyed the next day that much more. I've heard Travis Pastrana wakes up screaming from time to time, he says that it happens when he wrecks in his sleep.

    Be round, roll well

Just remember to come back or well miss you Mark..                                                                                     YOU ARE HEAR \/ BLUE DOT
