Took kids on some dez adventures this whole week and came upon a huge boulder half way up sandstone canyon blocking the 4wheel path which, from the holes in it, looks like it was put there intentionally.
Easy pass on moto but it was my first time on 4 wheels there, i dont remenber this block being there before, why did they do that anyone knows? Didnt see any ranger to ask

You could camp south of joshua tree in Berdoo canyon or something but you probably want to push further. Once you're north of 29palms probly better stay out of the military base, but anywhere else in dez should be all good there.
Find/download the BLM maps for the areas to get an idea

Text is definitely useful even when out of service, send text and store phone back in backpak, it will send eventually whens device finds service.

Remember that most (all?) US T-Mobile plans include free texting and data in MX (prepaid plans as well, so use/acticate only while in mx if you wish), calls from & to are cheap too. Coverage isnt perfect but its there. My 2c to stay in touch

I tried that once as well with my shoulder kept pulling and banging until i threwup a couple times from pain. Turns out shoulder was fine but colar bone was broken and i was pocking my lung in the banging process. Not sure there is any moral to this story?! I bookmark the link maybe next time i ll be more lucky

Easy: For a mere extra $99 you get the bear spray bottle option that has a gL logo on it and fits in the gl bag along with gl cook ware. Easy.
