  1. That is odd. Possibly started as a manufacturing defect in the cylinder or piston that took 300 hours to culminated in a failure.

    ALAMO or bust...

Negative. We rode east out of Fish Creek, then cut north across the open desert toward Ocotillo Wells. Stop to see a friend who was camping out there, then headed west into Borrego Springs for lunch. Then Grapevine back to 78 and s2 to the staging area. We need to hook up soon and ride.

Not liking the lithium batteries so far

Both of your bikes have the option to add a kick starter. I don't even think it's that expensive, although that is a relative statement. There is no reason you shouldn't be able to bump start your 500. I'm not sure why you think it's difficult? As long as you have some voltage, to start the fuel pump, you should be able to. And since the bike did turn over, it seems like bumping it was an option. Just about any bike can be bump started...I bump started a BMW R1200RT last weekend with the help of a friend. As far as the main question about the Lithium battery, I have mixed opinions about them. The best thing about them is the weight savings. If you don't really care about that, I would suggest you seriously consider going back to lead acid. I'm considering it myself. Mainly, because lead acid batteries work better in the mountains and lower temps, although they have their limitation too.
  6. BTW, guys, don't wait for me...I've got my own thing going. Was just mentioning that I'd be out there and we might run into each other.
  7. There are sections of the Pinyon trail that will be no fun at all on a 1290. Lots of sand, some steep rutted hills, rocky technical sections. Save this for another day when you are not trying to keep up with good riders on small bikes, just my advise
  8. I'll be staging at Pinyon Trail tomorrow morning. You guys coming through there??
  9. All good things must come to an end. She did her job. Now time for a little plastic surgery and she'll be hot as a 26 year old supermodel again soon.
  10. Wow, there was enough rain to get the washes flowing...how great.
  11. I'm out of town right now but will look at my calendar when I get back.
  12. Bring your own coldies because I'm pretty sure the store is not open for the season yet.

    Box Canyon

Wow, I'm very surprised. I rode through a few months ago and thought to myself that it would be years before they got around to fixing it.
  14. The annual Terry Bennett Police Motorcycle competition is tomorrow (today was practice). Some of the best riders from the western states and Mexico. Come on down...no charge for spectators and you can get up close. Del Mar Fair Grounds. South west corner of the parking lot...enter at the Solana gate.
  15. Double digits are coming to the desert this week. It most likely won't last...for now. But the fall cool down is coming...6 weeks and we'll be riding, right?

    Hey Governor, I'm feeling giddy....

It's not a ride reports unless you present proof of said ride in the form of GPS tracks, gas receipts, pictures, witnesses, etc. So you are safe because it might not have even been a ride as far as we know....

    Your Buddies Are Your Salvation

First thing I noticed was he wasn't covering the clutch. Not only should he have been covering it, but he should have been fleathering it in the section.
  19. Cancel the bark buster order and get the HDB set up...then you can get rid of that silly mirror too. https://www.highwaydirtbikes.com/index.php?app=ecom&ns=catshow&ref=HDB-100
  20. LOL...I was a little concerned I offended you with the "dude, your a fucking soup sandwich" comment. Now in all fairness, it was earned after 4 or 5 crashes, including going over the bars in the "mud pit", loosing your tail bag, and then getting a strap sucked up in your sprocket...all on one trail..., but I digress...Thanks for still being my friend. I was impressed how you never gave up and just kept pushing forward. At one point I had stopped out ahead of you a mile or so and shut off my engine. I sat there and listened to you start your bike, go a couple feet, stall out, and then repeat until you got through a technical rocky section. I thought for sure you were not having a good time and were going be ready to turn around. But you pulled up with a smile on your face and a positive attitude. I remember telling you a couple times...hey, the hard parts behind us...and then we'd get around a corner and there would be another technical section with 180 degree switch backs going uphill....but you made every section and now you know the area and what to expect. You'll have even more fun next year when your bike set up properly for Sierra single track and you graduate from The Oracle's slow and low motorcycle skills class.
  21. HBD, Tracy. I hope it's a great one.
