  1. Yes'um and while the officer(s) must follow the written law, it is at her or his discretion as whether you are performing the act safely or not. So for the most part, sitting/backed up traffic and lane sharing at say 15mph probably won't get you a ticket. Do the same at 25 or greater and ticket time increases. Do it in moving or non-moving traffic at freeway speeds, well it's a ticket for sure. However, the officer has to be able to reach you to cite you i.e., will it be safe for he/she to catch you. And if I am not mistaken, you need to do it at the left hand of the lane. I've had this discussion with officers back when I rode the dangerous streets. I tried to find an actual law on the topic but couldn't. I'd appreciate a link if ya have one. Unless I missed it, I figure they didn't post a law on the CHP site, just guidelines. They did post laws for impeding a bike. I remember reading something a few years ago about being to the left of the vehicle you're sharing with, too, but most go between the #1 (fast) lane and the #2, to the right of #1 and sometimes to the left of #2. It seems the whole thing is subjective so you're open to officer discretion. I may have written 2 tickets per month back in my patrol days and this def was not a focus of mine. It sort of is subjective, but based on objective laws. I think I saw something years ago on it, but wouldn't even try to find it for you now as it probably would be daunting. The Moto book from the DMV will not have it, but the big book which most of will never see I beileve goes over the safety of it. Sorry, I'm not much more help. You can try picking a CHPs head to see if he'll open up. You might get better luck talking to a CHP motocop. I gave up on road riding, so I am worry free for many reasons.

  3. I'll start the thread. Great day out there, not as warm as I thought it would be, only probably mid to hi 70s by the time I left. There was a breeze that made it nice. Arrived about 8 and stayed until noon. First day out in over a month and the shoulder blades and lower back are a bit sore. Warm up around the staging area for 30min or so. The whoops section (south east end) has flattened out quite a bit. Things were on the dry side and despite some tire squirreliness and low tread on my rear tire, traction was pretty good on the single track. Then an hour or so ride with XR650lnoob and Goofyfooter. Oh and with HandyAndy for about 300 yards. Whoopsie, next time Andy. Then it was xr650lnoob and I for some sprint paced sinlge track and boulder time. It was lizard and rabbit mania today, probably saw close to two dozen racing me on the trails. Also ran in to a snake, looked like a Gartner. I gingered by as to not squirt its guts on to the rocks. Might have been a dozen bikes out there today and as it often plays out, never ran by any of them. Quite the mix of steeds from a few or more drz, klr, at least 6 Huskies, a Beta, gasgas 2 stoke and a trials, ktms, and the usual japanese motos. Good times as always out there. No footage, just rode. and to GoofyFooter, per RiderPlanetUSA Lark is 30 square miles.

I'm not a heat fan as well, but yesterday was really tolerable for me. Both on the trails and rock climbing. Maybe that breeze cooled my sweat thus keeping me running cooler. Yeah, it's gonna be hit and miss for riding out there. I will definitely jump when the forecast predicts. See you next time Bob.

Brad, if I can make it, will be there early, but not Bob early. Can come back for ya for a little later for a longer day if desired. And Roooooooooooooooob, nooooooooooooo on the injury. Bummer dude, I haven't snapped a wrist, but have had some lame wrist woes that have taken me out for moooooooonths at a time, like 6 months. Since my Husky is under construction, and your 300 is in need of running time, I'll offer myself up to ride it for you. I'M HERE FOR YOU ROB or at least your bike. Heehaw.

Already planted the McC seed with some guys on Monday for a this Sunday ride. I've been trying to take apart and put back together my trusty steed, just not sure I'll have the time to get'er done by ride day. Cross fingers for a go as I've been down and out with riding the last month.
  9. I often find that to be the great thing about the place, you see trucks, vans and bikes in the lot, but barely ever see them on the trail. I have only had one semi-close call on the trail. It's always good times out there.
  10. Ah, good job on that last climb. That's where someone we know did not fare so well, right?
  11. Looks good. Sent you a message.
  12. Okay, it's almost time to trade out the now semi-slick rear tire (some have said it is far past the time ) for some square knobby traction grabbing rubber action. Currently the front and rear are older generation Dunlops - front D739, rear D756f. Either way I need new tires and perhaps you can assist in my decision making. They are for a '06 Husky TE450 and while the bike is street legal, it is 99.8% dirt ridden. It never sees groomed tracks. It is on rock, boulder, hard pack, loamy and sand. For example, I ride just about all of Corral Canyon i.e., 12, 11, 8, 9, 5, 3, 3a, Scout, Winchester, etc, as well as everything at McCain including the single track and small to big rocks. Okay, now you know the bike and terrain. Now to more specifics. I'm looking for good grip on the hard stuff, but will work in softer conditions and a tire that will last, like the tires I have now, but I don't want a tank Maxxis lasting tire. Not looking for a DOT tire per se. Brands are probably the usual suspects, Dunlop, Bridgestone, Perilli, Michelin. I know Dunlop has a little rebate right now and that is enticing. Let the diverse opinions flow. Cheers, Logroller
  13. So what are the cons, assuming you don't like them?
  14. I have just installed the old style Enduro Tractionators on my WR300, but the latest ones are DOT. I haven't ridden on the new tires yet, but have read a barrage of reports on the Husqvarna forum about how good they are. I'm hoping that they are as good as has been reported. I see that Gp and C&D actually carry them or are at least a dealer.
  15. It's AZ and Tombstone for that much, there ain't no rules in the old west. Robert, may I ask why Tombstone? There ain't much out there unless you're in to old west acting or art.
  16. Yeah, that's what I figured, not good for the loose stuff, due to the tight knob config. Now if I were just rock hoping, sha-wiiing.
  17. For Vic, Bob and others. Have you guys tired this knobby configuration. Scroll down to "RideFreak" for image. http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=948868&page=2
  18. Maybe this is an easier way to look at tires. What is the downside to a Perilli MT43? What is the downside to a Maxxis Desert IT? Waht is the downside to the 403 and 404? And any other tire listed or not listed.
  19. This topic is like a "which oil do you use?" post, the opinions differ to infinity - . With that said, keep the opinions coming as I have time to make the purchase, because yes there is tread left on the existing rear and I have other things to take care of on the bike that have priority. Those Motoz look interesting. On the fence about a trials rear. I know the Maxxis are tanks for life, but they're also tanks in weight and girth. I thought about the Bridgestone 403 and 404, and I see it's stock on a bike or two.
  20. Okay boys, let me clarify. I may have exaggerated how many people were saying the rear tire is done. And by no means do I feel pressured in getting new rubber, just because people think I should or not. Yes, there is life left in it, and I do......at times.....like how the rear can spin under power. But on the flip side I am liking less how the tire is getting squirrely and has lost its grab luster. It has about 1/4" tread height left in the center, but with a sloped tooth. Guess I could flip it for some more grab. As for the front, yes outside of some rounding and chunking (softer compound + rocks = tread chunkage) it is pretty good. However it too is losing its luster in the drier conditions. Anyway, the need still stands, whether today or a future date new rubbers are always better than used and thus means I will need some.
  21. Reading "hard parts," in your post scares me. No issues riding those trails, but with a radiator hose having a split, fray and bubble all in a 1" spot, And a few other things, I better stay off the steed until I get her in tip top shape. Those were the "obstacles" I was referring to in my other post. Hope you're having fun.
  22. No show for me, too many obstacles.
  23. Man, you'll go as far as AZ just to not let me ride the new bike. :-(

    a mini bike trail ride

I would definitely be in for this, but me's owns nothing smaller than a 450. If only my daugther were a wee bit older (2 in May), then I'd have her's to ride. So I will look forward to the next mini ride once I have a tiny steed.
