  1. I think just about all of us have been on the two wheels more than a few times solo and probably many of us will continue to execute solo journeys with or without injury. But as they saying goes, there are riders who have crashed and those who will crash. And to take that one step further when it comes to dirt play, there are solo riders that have crashed with minor injury, and those who will crash with a nasty or life threatening injury. Noob or Pro, it will happen, tomorrow or 30 years down the trail. Just pointing a friendly reminder that sheot happens and it's not just to the other guy, no matter how skilled or cautious we ride.

    Big Bear

A little more info might spark more interest i.e., level of riding skill (big bike friendly or not), type of riding (fire road, tree trails), map location(s), trail names, etc. Have fun.

The cool thing about Noaa.gov is their map. You can click on a specific spot narrowing the projected weather for your desired area instead of a report from a weather doppler that might be guesstimating weather from a far off location. I have had no luck typing in McCain Valley for location, so I just input Pine Valley, CA and drag the map over to the location I want and then click the on the location for a weather report on that area. http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=32.70454448808994&lon=-116.26092910766602

Thought about joining in and looked at the calendar. No go, kid's b-day. Have fun.
  5. Didn't make it. Ended up working on projects to complete around the homestead. Wish I could go ride next weekend after these rains, but both days are booked with the kiddos 1st be day party and Mother's day. A good trade off IMO. Typed in "BORCS Tecate" for a search and lookie who I find http://www.cafehusky.com/threads/racing-photos.31962/ Have a great time Robert.
  6. If there is any rain, don't expect the gates to be open. I would call before making the drive.
  7. Sunday's temps for McCain are looking SHAAAAAWING!!!!! I was just about to post a thread seeing who is in attendance. Looks like Robert and buyer, Bikeslut and ???? So Robert, by "sedate" what do you mean exactly? I have a feeling your sedate is my pushing it. Forecast http://forecast.weather.gov/MapClick.php?lat=32.7038222474499&lon=-116.2686538696289
  8. "Why'd I do that?" The true fail was in the lack of using a German expletive.
  9. Bikeslut, Axel, 1Kstep, Scubatoe and Logroller run. Good times as usual. Bikeslut and Axel got there a bit before the rest to make a few pre-runs. Log and 1Kstep arrived a few minutes late and I believe the group got riding just before 8am. No other bikes or vehicles present. It was Scubatoe's first time out to McCain and he did great, just as the rest of the group did throughout the day. Starting the ride up the big rock slab we rode mostly around the central meat of the trails and while it was a bit dusty, visibility was still very good. Bikeslut and Alex ended their ride about 10am, partly because that was close to their end time anyway, but also due to a not so auspicious oil leak. Log, 1Kstep and Scubatoe took a break and then headed out on the trails for approximately another 1 1/2 ending by noon. We started off at the south west end of the staging area and rode the switch back for a while with eventually heading north along the western border, cutting over to the power lines, but not the road, then weaving back through single track and switch back until we came out at the big rock slab to drop in to the parking lot. Upon our return there was 4 or 5 extra vehicles and about 6 or 7 bikes. Only crossed paths with other bikes a few times on the trails. By the time we left at noon it was in the low 80s - IMO. Although 2 Ford temp gauges tried telling us it was 90, but I disbelieve. There was a nice little cool breeze on part of the day and at least for me I did not feel hot. I got some video footage on the first half of the day, but dust/light and my card acting up I did not get much for viewing. Some how the card got full zeroing out any footage of the fun time switch back and single track on the latter half of the day. Pic order: 1. Scubatoe and me pointing to 1Kstep on the far ridge (cannot really see him) 2. Bikeslut 3. Axel over rock in center, 1Kstep to left and Bikeslut to right on foot. 4. Trail 5. Boulders
  10. Some nice doing it wrong, doing it correct, and verbal instruction on riding.

    SDAR on TV?

Lurking That's a special day for someone I know, but if it's only an hour or so in then it's a possibility. Am I reading this straight, it would be at the KUSI studio? Maybe something later in to the Summer would be better as the temperatures could prove good for a June 9th ride on the trails.
  12. Check out the last video I posted in this thread.
  13. I need to learn the front end lifting/turn technique for going over objects/90 degree turns. Me performing this move on a very rare accidental way does not count. I wish I hand a log and rock in my backyard. Shoot, I wish I could do it in my backyard without a log or rock.
  14. Given the feather like skill you wish to obtain through dance, I now believe your new name is 1Ktro. Didn't you have a cameo in this film. By the way, how was your sammi from Carnitas Snack Shack?
  15. A little footage on the day, but none of the south-west side of the area where we hit some single track the second half on the day.
  16. So I've been keeping my arse on the saddle recently, on purpose, even when it's not always the best time to be seated. I'm not suggesting this technique necessarily to others, but that I've been doing it to gain better knowledge of how the bike reacts to my weight distribution being planted on different terrain/obstacles. For example, knowing the difference between good and bad execution. I don't exclusively practice sitting during an outing, because it can get you in trouble, cause more fatigue, or at the least slap your lower back with a vengeance. OoH, my kidneys. Standing seems to help in so many ways when tackling trails like at McCain. I also try to stand when it really isn't needed and play around with balance and control using foot peg pressure, bar steering and what not. I guess the point I'm trying to make is all of us, pros included, need to push ourselves (technique) to try new and old things on every ride. Whether we're proficient at it or not. I know I'm not proficient at dirt riding and I will continue to practice, practice, practice, watch more tutorials, practice and look for advice from my fellow SDAR members. Don't be shy to tell me a better line or technique. Teaching is not rude, it's empowering to those asking to be learned.
  17. From a Scubatoe posting https://www.youtube.com/user/OffRoadRider15f?feature=watch
  18. There are odd things about it from the footage, to the narrator, but also some good break downs of technique. I have yet to get through the entire video, but I know I'll look at it often. If there isn't already a thread going, maybe we should use this one to post technical videos.
  19. Here's the video I was talking about.
  20. I forgot to mention that two Harley hogs rolled in to the staging area. Unfortunately they did not attempt climbing the rock slab. :blink:/> And another SDAR came out to ride by herself. Any guesses on who that may have been? Hint, she's been out there are few times. She also mentioned TICKS. Word is, apparently there are ticks out there. So check yourself before leaving the lot.
  21. Huh??? | | | | edit, pic list added.
  22. Sweet, must cheaper and a do it yourself job too.

No need to give the specific location, just wondering roughly where that is.
