  1. Question - my 2008 V-strom is worth maybe 2K at best on a good day. Probably less than that. Just got my registration renewal today it's $131? That's like 7% of the value. Is there a way to get depreciation factored in or something? I've owned the bike about 7 years. @DSM8 I'm sure you've got some intel on this....
  2. Yep, they raised my insurance for no reason after 5 years. No accidents, nothing. Had to switch.
  3. $500 to $72, wow. California wants us all on public transport and bicycles
  4. why would it go UP!!?? makes no sense!
  5. 20 years broham. Still gets me.
  6. Damn dude. Can't believe the fees on your bikes! Even the CRV.... Well, I guess I'm not crazy then, I was just scratching my head this am wondering what the heck
  7. Ha ha, been here 20 years, but yeah...sometimes when they stick it to ya, you feel it.

    Paul aka Shooby

Bit late on posting on here, but just wanted to re-introduce myself to SDAR again in light of all this. I'm Ted aka "stoke". Along with Paul (shooby) and Josh @downs I ran one WARPED rally back in the day. I met Paul off of advrider and here, same with josh. We rode as a crew locally pretty frequently and hit a few rallies as well. Paul was a good dude, the best riding partner anyone could ask for. Patient, even when waiting for my slow ass to catch up lol. We did a lot of SDAR rides together. Anyhow, I used to attend the NOOB rides pretty frequently and always had a blast exploring these areas of San Diego few people even know exist. I also usually pop out to @DSM8's place for tech days when he does one of those-the last one I picked up the new SDAR shirts, bitchen. Looking forward to starting to ride more here again. Took a bit of time off for a work transition last couple of years, but missing the rides. Still riding the same bike, 2008 vstrom. Just joined the FB group as well. I'm "Theodore" on FB, my full legal name
  10. Don't blame ya! We have about 68 people so far, I'd like to hit 75 or so, but I'm happy with the number so far. That's just about the right size for a good party.
  11. Shooby: will do, good point. Afry, man, you missed last year's too! Bummed you can't make this one either.
  12. Dan, thanks for starting this thread! I'm the organizer this year, along with Shooby, Downs, and more than a few others helping out in the background. The basic idea is you get a ticket, and that comes with a truly outstanding campground reservation on the Kern River, a catered dinner on saturday night on site, and damn near unlimited keg craft beer. Show up and throw your tent down where there's space. Some of the members like Shunka brew the beer on their own for us, and the rest are from microbreweries, which Shooby organized this year. Grab a cup and go. Riding is as hard/easy/singletrack/fire road/pavement as you make it. Some guys ride hard all day, do night rides with crazy helmet lights and some guys just hang out and bullshit. Last year I did some light two up touring on and off pavement, and saw one of the most beautiful waterfalls I've ever seen. WARPED has no agenda, no organized rides, no corporate sponsors, no bullshit-just awesome people in an awesome setting. Should be about 80 or so people this year. We just had a guy visit Mountain and River Adventures campground yesterday, and he stated is was 85 degrees with the water level on the river looking good. Who knows what the weather will be a couple weeks from now, but all good signs. This year we have a LOT of smaller bike guys coming, plus of course the dreadnought sized beast crowd . The people are what make any event, and this is great people combined with outstanding riding and a really fun camp environment. If you're thinking about coming, post up here vs going on the WARPED thread on advrider. The thread is...interesting to say the least. Lot of off color in jokes and whatnot. All in good humor, but a lot of b.s. to sort through this late in the game.
  13. Lurking, shooby told me about this ride, and it looks really fun. Would be riding the new to me KTM 640. I'll update during the week.
  14. Those were really good, and you certainly didn't hesitate to snatch one up !
  15. That was a great time with great people. Somehow avoided a hangover the next morning, which was nice, as I didn't the next day after hosting a guy that was supporting a racer in the Baja Rally 3.0 that just finished this weekend. More crowded than I've ever seen it before up there from the "hunters". More trash too. Growing up in rural MN and MT, where hunting is a solitary and quiet affair with no one around, it was weird to see city camps with whole families within earshot of each other, all wandering around with rifles. Too crowded to really stalk any game and too dangerous with that many people around. A teenager wandered into Josh's camp at around 8 am, smoked a joint, and started fiddling with a .45 after he was high, which was...interesting. Thank you for the lending of jacket, I was freezing my ass off! Also, the conversation around the lantern was hilarious that night. SDAR is definitely a pegging free zone, ha ha. I had a nice little site down the hill from everyone, great place to enjoy a bottle of wine and mountain house macaroni and cheese:
  16. Man all you guys are early packers!!! I still need to pack, will do tonight. Did get the zipper replaced in my Held jacket to get ready for this though, bit of a disappointment that such an expensive jacket would have a fail like that after three years. Managed to get the gross plastic taste out of my MSR Dromedary bag using denture cleaning tablets, no joke. Worked a trick. Josh, I'll keep it on 70 cm call and Mission Hills till we get close and switch over to the SDAR freq from Mission Hills. Also, I second using the lower and last campsite for this group outing; more room, more private, better views and most important, WAY less nails laying around. Too many people burn pallets up in the fireplace and leave nails everywhere. Shooby!!! I didn't see your post earlier! Glad to have you back, although after this trip, you're going to be leaving us all in the dust. You ride that F800 like a BMX bike.
  17. Yup, I'll have the radio on 70cm calling frequency and whatever the SDAR frequency is you guys use. I think it's two meters if I recall correctly. KK6RWM.
  18. I've drank from that spring several times and never had any issues; last time I was there it wasn't running though. Beautiful camping up there. Hoping I can make it up there with you guys, I"ll have a VHF/UHF radio handy to find everyone if I have to come in late, which looks to be the case as I have a noon work appointment on Friday.
  19. Lurking on this one, but have some friends that are coming back up over the border from the 500 on the 3rd, early, and likely will be camping down south of Ocotillo that day/night before leaving the next day. This is a great ride, done it many times with downs and shooby, one time even with snow on the big bike, ha ha (damn that was cold that night in my thirty five year old marmot sleeping bag! It's beautiful up there and a welcome temperature change.
  20. That KTM twin sounds pretty awesome. Word is honda will be doing a lower displacement twin based of off the new AT design, but of course, we probably won't know much for a couple years. I do wish a manufacturer would step in and fill that niche that so far, is really underserved.
  21. Looked like a fun baja trip Afry, we'll have to catch up soon, only saw you once at the noob rally and you missed warped! I've been watching this bike for awhile now, seems like a F800 GS competitor more or less. I'm interested in it for sure, seems like a fun two up adventure tourer, but not good for much more than fire roads. Headed too and from warped last year, loaded down with camping gear, two up, plus riding off pavement two up, I could of used the extra power the new AT would of had. Would of been perfect for the trip with it's long freeway miles. If one of these http://www.ccm-motorcycles.com/gp450.asp#.VbaMl7NVhBc hits our shores, I'm in for sure. In the meantime, after three years straight of Vstrom only, I picked up a KTM 625 sxc that was basically made into a 640 adv by the previous owner. Should feel fun off road, weighs 200 lbs less than the strom, LOL.
  22. Good ride guys! Josh, thanks for setting up and leading the ride, and good to meet several new faces. I was pretty tired after, fun wrestling those big pigs around in the dirt!
  23. Late to the game, but lurking. Crazy hours this week. Will update in the am.
  24. Been looking at both of those bikes...made the mistake of riding the 1190 for a bit last WARPED rally. My gosh is that a great bike-the owner had different things to say about my Vstrom as he was riding it, LOL. Haven't had the pleasure of riding the Tiger yet, but heard good things.
