Afry - Arnie Fry Celebration of Life 9/30

Seems like a Black Canyon, Santa Isabel TT, Black Mountain, Pamo Rd. loop is doable and in the same area as his celebration of life. There are a couple vista points to stop at... at the bottom of the Black Mountain split or at the top. I am up for whatever you guys decide.

Arnie made me feel welcome from the moment I showed up on my first ride at Packards Coffee Shop. I was riding my Triumph Scrambler and he had nothing but good things to say with a smile on his face. I visited his house in Ramona for a barbecue and we became friends on Facebook. Also, he was one hell of a dirt bike rider. He will be remembered. Thank you Arnie for your hospitality.
  5. Really great ride. Gate open at bottom of Fred Canyon. Don't give up on the African Twin, Daniel. I see that alternator cover for $118 on Rocky Mountain ATV. Thanks for organizing Charlie!

Lurking. I have a truck I'm restoring at the campo museum
  10. I rebuilt my lower end and just finished putting it all together and bolted the cylinder head on -- and then I found this unidentified washer on my parts table. It must have fallen off some bigger part that I did not bag. It looks like a 6.5 mm ID, THICK washer (not a copper sealing washer). Could it be this part (below) that holds the plastic cam chain tensioner arm in place, called a Drum Stopper Washer? I see photos of this washer online but it does not appear to be THICK like my random one. WASHER, DRUM STOPPER Part# 90417-360-000 Nightmare scenario here! It measure to be a 6.5mm ID washer, but I suppose it would also fit on a 6mm bolt. It definitely will not fit on a 8mm bolt. Measurements are on the attached photo. Any help from the xr400 experts appreciated!

Photobucket is getting a huge amount of pressure to reverse the ransom policy. They may do it a few days. As an alternative, Google Photos may be your safest bet.

I am in the same boat. All my forum posts using photobucket are screwed now. http://www.denverpost.com/2017/07/06/photobucket-complaints-over-charging/

    New Guy in Clairemont

Welcome! Look for noob rides posted on the forum.
  14. Update: THIS IS NOT THE RIGHT WASHER. I dove back in the right side. (I could not wait for that washer to arrive in the mail). This is a thin washer, not a thick one. On the two diagrams above, #11 and #14 are the same part number. So, I went back in and looked at #14, which I could do from the side cover without removing the clutch. It is a flat washer, therefore both #11 and #14 are not the right ones. They are common thin washers. Back to square one. I am starting to think this is just some random spacer that fell off a part. I will continue to search the parts diagrams. Thanks all.
  15. Hopefully just a right side case removal and possibly clutch removal.
  16. Yes #11, if any body has their XR400 apart please take a photo and post. I also put this message on Thumpertalk. I have ordered the washer anyway.
  17. Thanks guys. I am going to order the part.
  18. Does anybody have a case splitting tool that will work on a '97 XR400R that maybe I could borrow? Like this one: https://www.rockymountainatvmc.com/p/989/17167/Tusk-Crankcase-Splitter?term=case+splitter My countershaft is stripped and I have to replace it with the upgraded 1999 version. I have to get the swingarm pivot bolt out first, so it could be a week or two before I dive in.
  19. Is my crank screwed? Measurements seem in spec but what do u make o this blue-ing?
  20. Penetrating oil, heat, and a loaner slide hammer from AutoZone pulled it out. You can actually thread the Swingarm bolt without damaging it because it's hollow. A 3/8" tap and bolt fits inside. Thanks guys!
