I'd be careful (especially at that price, which sounds too cheap). We just had our diesel truck smogged, and it had a Banks system on it (which is one of the ones that are allowed). The lady (Rita at Smog's by Rita in Escondido, who I've been using for 27 years and is awesome!) mentioned that had it been any other chip it would not have passed. Give Rita a call and run it by her. She's great, honest, and will tell you what she knows! She's off of the Auto Park on Vineyard, if I remember correctly.

IIRC, she lived in a VW microbus for quite a while until she "made it".

No Explosions! Ocotillo to Salton City
simicrintz replied to Goofy Footer's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Thanks Goofy. I'd like a bit more aggressive tire than what I have now (I think it is a Bridgestone, IIRC) on the rear. I'm comfortable on the road with the current (stock) tire, but I do not like it at all in the dirt. Just seems too loose. It is time for a new rear, so I will go look at the Michelin's. Thanks for the response! -

Nice job! I've run most of the routes (not all in the same day!) you report on on my XR400 (gone, and deeply missed). Your write up brought back a lot of fun memories, and I can't wait to get out there again soon. What are you running for tires? Are you happy with them? I need to replace the shoes on my 650 and don't know what to get. I'd appreciate hearing what you are running and if you are happy with them. -

But of course....How in the heck did you see that? I have them on both wing windows. That picture is all about that Beemer and you find a sticker on my window of my Blazer. You have problems my old friend..LOL Are you kidding me?! Everybody has a Beemer, but not too many people have a cool K5!! I looked right over the Beemer (not really sure I saw it at all!). Old cars (and guns) are cool. Almost as cool as dirt bikes..... -

Big Bike Camping
simicrintz replied to Riggerdan's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I'll always be a dirt biker at heart (and once I can slow down a bit, I hope I can join some of you guys for some of these kinds of trips), but this thread reminded me of a trip the wife and I took to Montana a couple years ago to visit her Dad. He let me take out his Harley (it is a converted Police bike) and cruise around Seeley Lake. I'll see if I am smart enough to post up a pic! I'd rather take my XR and explore, but I can see that some might like this way of traveling! -
Caught this wasting time on the web: http://mashable.com/2011/10/24/motorcycle-cow-rescue/ Looks to be real, but you never know! Nice story, real or not.

What tire are you running on the rear, Mr. Thumper? -
Welcome Rich, from another XR650L rider! Even though I'm a Noob (still!) here on the page, I've found it to be a great place, with lots of friendly folks! I think you'll like it here!

Easy Saturday

That's the place! I still live nearby (been on this street sine '76). Kinda sad to see it all developed. Sounds like you guys had a good ride and missed the rain! -

I'll admit when I don't know, or am wrong I have to say that I have never heard of it! Maybe that has to do with being a desert rat all these years. Now that I am getting up in age, the trails and fire roads are starting to look pretty good! Doubt I'll ever leave the desert, but I can learn new stuff, right? Definitely need to make the trip and do this soon. So much to learn...... -

A new concept in wheel chocks
simicrintz replied to dirt dame's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
welcome... I read the link, but this will stay put in a regular truck bed without a rhino lining, etc? It wont slide even with the corrugated bed? I am about 3 weeks from installing a drill-in chock to the bed of my truck for the proverbial 3rd wheel (uh... that would be YOU Aaron) anyway- i'd love to hear some first hand experience on this from somebody Played with the design for a truck bed a bit today and am designing a piece that can be added to the standard chock to drop in between the grooves. This will keep the chock from having to hit a ridge to get traction. Should be no problem on a bed with or without rhino lining/Line-X. I'll keep you all posted....... -
Nice job! I can see looking farther into this and getting a seat for my XR650L soon. Tired of the "numb butt" disease with the current seat! Would you mind if I added a link on my site? I haven't got that far yet, but I'd be happy to try and help you, if you are okay with it. PM me if you like; I'm happy to see if I can find a good place to put it.

Happy to hear it wasn't you. Condolences to the family of the Rider.

I've never done ball joints, but keep me posted on the "work party". I just might learn something!
