Riding In Sand
simicrintz replied to Jlburgess's topic in Motorcycle Safety, Training & Riding Schools
I have been on XR650's for many years and have covered many miles of sand with it. I now have an orange bike also and have some sand time in with it. Speed, a light grip on the bars to allow the tire to "float" around and the right tire(s) are the key (as already mentioned), as well as time to get familiar with the feeling of being in sand. And just so you know: I have had plenty of butt puckers and more than a few crashes! -

Great pics; good for you guys!! -
I agree; that pricing is crazy! I want one (don't have time to ride what I have.......). Would be cool to put Mrs simicrintz on the back of that instead of the 650

I've got the Shinko 505 Cheater on the rear of the orange bike and am super happy with it. It is not DOT approved however. -
That is pretty cool!! I remember when I was 51...... And Happy Birthday!!!

SDAR Voluntary Supporting Membership Fee UPDATED 6/12/19
simicrintz replied to KTMrad's topic in Website Information and/or Problems
I held off for a while on contributing since I don't contribute on any other sites that I am on (and one of them I moderate). That said, I saw the value of the site and understand the undertaking to keep it functioning. Cheap entertainment in my book!! -

Very cool story, and good for you and your DAD! I am an old XR guy as well. My wife bought me a 650L for my 50th B-day in '09, and it has been ridden as much as possible. I had the suspension reworked for me, removed the smog and muffler and did a few small mods to clean it up. Like you, I will never sell it (makes a great 2-up bike for my wife and I still enjoy riding it). Got my 500EXC in October and love that it is 100 pounds lighter than the XR. I am not worthy of this bike but will grow into it! Look into the mods for yours to really wake it up (remove smog, remove reed valve, modify existing exhaust, tuner). Congrats again to you and your Dad; welcome to the page!! -

Corral Canyon Trail Maintenance 6-22
simicrintz replied to ADV Bum's topic in Adopt a Trail and Other Trail Maintenance Issues, Volunteer Trail Days, etc.
I think that while there are few thousand on the site, only so many are active and/or check in. I see the same on the site that I moderate in instances like this. I am working that day but if I get off in time I will work on heading that way. -
The 200X was the 3 wheeler that I always wanted, Mark. I had one of the '82 250R's and hated it (never was a 2 stroke guy) and loved the 200X when it came out. I had moved onto 2 wheels by then and never did buy another 3 wheeler after '82.

Top pic looks like Blow Sand. "If it don't go-chrome it"

Very cool; I played around a bit with mine but was pretty limited to cam, carb and pipe-never got to that level! The good ole days; it's a wonder we lived through them!

I still have an '82 185S; wish I still had a 110. Ya gotta admit that those things were fun. Remember trying to get up Comp on those?
