    Yes out of Canada. And I think Huntndogs article nailed it. Likely a certification issue and that is big money. Follow the money. Bike is pretty good right out of the box though, as I took a small ride before taking it apart.

    Ya I tried K&L or is it K&S, yes K&S some years ago and had to re-seal several bikes, on me because they did not last. Lots of seal tidbits make a difference. Yamaha seals for instance the seals off the older Yamaha's last longer than their newer seals. They are going after reduced friction. Glad you got it sorted, and if ever in need I am here to serve.

    K&L seals are not good. You want oem NOK or SKF for long lasting seals. I likely have them in stock and am happy to give advise as well.

    Canola gets thicker with time. For the time being and for this conversation, I simply can't say enough about Canola. You can also coat the grill when camping! It comes in spray bottles too! Buy one, sometimes you get two, yes two! Less saturated fat! Heart healthy! For those that lick there filters clean. Yes and believe it or not Canola can help you conceive as it is sperm friendly. Checked it myself! Un-stick your zippers. Yes checked it myself. Simply rub the filter on your zipper briskly and Wahlah. Smooth and shiny. Shall I go on? Run to the store before the shelves are empty.

    Canola oil and when dirty soak in simple green. Been doing it for few years. Gets gummy, icky and sticky so have to soak them. Makes me think of a mountain stream with all my greenness.
  8. Yep a few years ago at McCains whoops, riding like Wiley Coyote with a black helmet, coming at me. Turned out to be a Genius, as the helmet was triple x. Never seen such a big head. Bikeslut was there.
  9. Good morning young man. Yes for a dual sport 100hrs is a good range. But it all depends on your speed, terrain and conditions. Easy rider can go 100hr easily. Hard slow single track can go longer even. Speed, if you are fast and putting the hammer down like I saw that genius guy do on his 990 in the whoops. Then you will wear out your fork fluid much quicker. The more you squeeze that fluid through tight tolerances at high speed, the faster it will lose its damping qualities. The shock in that high speed scenario will, unlike the fork, get very hot. The heat kills fluid even faster. One local fast guy Austin Prida when I worked with him would trash shock fluid in 7 hrs. He makes seat covers now locally by the way. Have not seen him in years. Nice guy. Oh and my 990 seat is tearing. Oops back to the topic. If you ride in mud your fork seals can go in one ride. If your fork seals are seeping at all then they are also sucking air back in, with the dirt. One ride leaky seal, fluid trash. You might notice that your forks when you bleed them have more air than usual but they are not leaking. That usually indicates they will be leaking soon as that allows more dirt in or they are just wearing out. So what it comes down to is to put more money in my pocket, so you should service after every ride, just to be safe But in reality you judge between Couple hours pro racer, 20hrs intermediate motocross racer, to 100hrs, enjoy the fauna dual sport rider to 120hrs trials rider.
  10. I am looking for a 790R owner that wants next level suspension. I know the fork inside out so that is already on the books, and I assure you quite good. The shock is pretty basic but may take couple shots to get it nicely refined as I have to see what piston and some other details in this unit. The owner will have to be capable of using the current suspension to its limits. So an aggressive rider capable of giving some feedback. Willing to drop the bike off a couple times if additional tuning is needed. I will not ride the motorcycle unless you request that I test and deliver fully dialed. Noah Kepple offered to do a 790R dial in for me. He is a master at getting me the feedback in short order and creating stellar damping results. The mods will include the latest design valving upgraded with comp and reb in each fork. Springs front and rear if needed. Likely a custom spec rear spring variable rate so the bike will not only handle better but will handle weight variations better in case you are going to load up bags or passenger at times. Will set up suspension to suit your needs. Want plush we can lean on plush, you want firm but plush at break neck speeds, that can be attained as well. If you are that guy kick me an email at george@suspension101.com The cost for these upgrades generally run about $1200 without tuner ridden dial in. When we ride and tune it generally adds about $300 to the cost. If I do not find the right owner I may be purchasing a new 790R in the near future. Thanks George

    You can ship it if you want. Thanks KTMrad he may well get 14 when there is a shortage but in a month or two they will drop. If I do not get a donor I will step up but not at 14k as I would develop it and likely sell it at a loss. My brother Gio is a dealer, in a few months they will start showing up at auction. Plus I, like you, am still in love with my 990. Mine weighs about the same as the 790R now.

    Riding In Sand

    Lower tire pressures Drop forks in the triple clamps or get proper springs so the front rides at proper height. Stock springs are too soft and exacerbates your steering issues. So to explain further, when you let up on the gas the forks drop weighting the front changing your trail and that is when the bike will usually turn. Essentially your tire is pushing the sand in front and is the contact point instead of riding on top of it. That is what creates the sand wallowing etc. Faster you go the front tire will ride on top of the sand and you will have the trail the manufacturer intended. Also a big help when you are at higher speeds and on the gas if the back end is moving around, apply a bit of back brake. Tried it recently and immediately the rear stabilizes.

    What I really want is a vtwin 2 stroke 600 to 700cc injected at a reasonable 400lbs loaded up. Self righting of course! Pasta pilot has a classic vtwin that is likely to go up in value big time in the future.

    Leaning towards the 790R in a year maybe. Xplor fork can be modified to perform really well. Think the 990 stays in the stable though. I love my 990. The Yamaha I really like. Less electronics, but the forks are 43mm like the Africa twin and may be an issue. They are KYB and may not have the flex issues but who knows? 43mm worries me. Saw a review saying the brakes were weak, but it's not out yet, so that may be addressed. Had not heard about the Honda 850? Just did UTBDR and AZBDR couple weeks ago with some young guys in there 50s. Took all the expert trails. My 990 is lighter than most at 460lbs with some fuel, but I'm getting too old to pick her up twice a day.

    New ride. My first big bike.

    Have ridden them all and I am still riding the 990. After dial in the 1090R 1190R did surprise me as I did not expect them to be even close to the 990 off road. They are good though. Travel limited on the 1090R but still can be set up to haul ass off road as Ken will confirm. I think the 950 is good because of a lack of electronics that can strand you. World travel definitely the 950 otherwise they are all a blast.

    Anyone have a cnc machine shop recommendation. Tried a couple shops but they are over booked or just not their cup of tea. I need some parts made. Runs of 50 to 200 units at a time. Mostly aluminum and would be great to use someone close by. Im in Alpine. Thank you, George@suspension101.com

  23. Hmm, new project. Building a Baja pre-runner for RJ. Going to have to take it to a modern level and more. Forks won't be a problem, they are nearly the same as the new Xplor. RJ was the first to ride the design that Kenny has in his bikes. That was about 5 years ago and it took till 2019 to make it available for the rest of us. Just because it worked on his Suzuki Showa set up does not mean it will work on a KTM open bath. Completely different build. The question is what do I do with the shock. Going to have to take a hard look at it. It is the smaller 46mm unit and it will overheat quite easily if he puts the hammer down. Wonder if I can squeeze a 50mm shock in there of any brand? Anyone have any helpful info? I know some of you have owned or maybe still own a 640 Adventure. Have not seen the bike yet, he is going to drop it off after the Mint 400. On another note, I love Pasta too! Jon is the one that turned me on to the ARRA Americans for Responsible Recreational Access. I need to make another donation to them sooner rather than later. They really are on top of the land access issues. Thank you Jon.
  24. As many of you know local rider Noah Kepple has been picked up by Husqvarna. He is contracted to race the 450FX in the 2019 Worcs series in the Pro 2 class starting this weekend and the 350FX in the 2019 Endurocross series. This is where the rubber hits the road and is a wonderful opportunity for Noah. First shot with one of the big manufacturers. This Sunday bout 11:30 will be his first race State Line Nevada. We excitedly received the Husky's about three or four weeks ago and have been rolling through many variations of new to us suspension, under the gun to get a set up that works. Oops pun. Anyhow the bike comes with the Aer WP air fork and the 50mm linkage rear shock. We also had a couple Trax shocks to test. After some testing we ended up converting the Aer to a WP spring conversion provided by Husky. We then installed valving quite similar to the Cone Valve forks and took it a step further with a new design we have been working on for about a 6 months. It was simply mush, so we did it again, mush and again, and again, and yes again. Shock; Threw a re-valve at it and gave it a go. Showed promise but needed work. Threw on one of the Trax shocks and found it really far off. Tested for the heck of it a couple of the other team bikes with the Trax and even further off. Hmm the clock is ticking. 😳 Noah decides to stick with the Oem shock so we go after it. Updated re-valve on two shocks, we install a bladder in one shock and keep the plastic reservoir piston in the other shock. Identical valving in both shocks. The reason we wanted to try the bladder is to see if they really have better compliance in initial hits and the added advantage of a measured 72cc's of additional shock fluid. The shock is getting very hot so more oil is more better. I have never tried to sell bladders as I never had a conclusive test and hearsay is just that. But a couple things have changed. A couple of my customers have had the WP plastic pistons fail and if that happens in a race it is game over. Is the bladder really more compliant? The suspension engineer I have worked with in the past was adamant that there is no difference, I listened. I even made an aluminum reservoir piston or two for the new bikes to alleviate failures for a couple racers. Well Noah tests and the bladder and was a no brainer. Initial hit compliance is better, the shock has more oil, the plastic piston failure is not in the back of our minds. Bladder wins! To all my customers that I stated the bladder is not an advantage I stand corrected. Now I am obligated with integrity to sell you bladder kits, while parting you with more of your money, for your own good.😇 Well anyhow the reservoir was an improvement but shock still need work. Noah spent a few days riding with Taylor Robert and I get the call, the suspension is not where it needs to be. So here we are Wednesday before the race and the forks and shock are still not good. Not handling whoops and riding too low in the stroke. I asked point blank is it going to affect your race? Lots of hesitation and finally a no, it will be alright. In other words, it will affect his race, Noah is just being nice. I am up most the night but come up with new stacks. We have been going in the right direction kinda just gotta freeking get there already. So I work late Wed. as I have one last shot at getting Noah a bike that is competitive. Wednesday night I text Noah, I have one last set up for you, forks and shock. Noah goes out to McCains in the rain on Thursday and tests. I am waiting and waiting and at 2:06pm I text him (You try it?) Response; "The answer is YES for everything. I can go fast on this fork. Could not bottom it out on this deep whooped out track. The shock is MUCH better! Not doing anything weird in really deep whoops. I am omitting much of the detail but he says the forks are going to be killer in the Glen Helen race and it corners like it is on rails. Well that is a HUGE weight off both our shoulders!!! So this month we learned, tested, sweat, worried, even bled once when I stabbed myself with a dental tool. Ya I know life is hard Worcs will have live timing online this weekend so keep tabs on our local boy. Noah Kepple #636
  25. Sorry for not following up on Progress. We never had the opportunity to go further with the new set up due to a wrist injury Noah sustained at McCain's on test day. We wait and hope Noah heals quickly and well. Initial Xrays show no broken bones but unable to ride.
