  1. Sounds like a great morning. It's so good to see you back in the dirt! Hopefully I can join you guys next time, I've just about got the hang of this baby thing...for now. -B
  2. This was a really fun event, thanks for including us! -Blake P.S. I think I left my silver Seven-Zero-Seven helmet in John's trailer.
  3. If anyone wants to be in the Hell On Wheels group, please let me know by Thursday so I can shuffle the groups. I will make the final adjustments on Thursday at 7 PM, so get your requests in now! -B! P.S. At 50 riders, is this still considered an informal local ride? :-) Nice work building this thing up Craig. Our own Paul Revere!
  4. The advantage of camping on the south end is that there are two decent non-controlled camping areas nearby. Ocotillo Wells even has vault toilets and picnic tables.
  5. What if we flip the ride so that we start in Idylwild and end at Butterfield. If Butterfield is full, we can always rough it in Blair Valley or Ocotillo Wells.

    Scouting ride April 7th

Very nice! I succumbed to temptation and decided to ride Santa Ysabel with you guys, but the first little sandy patch made me tense up and my torn rib cage muscle reminded me why the doctor said no off road riding for a while. I was sad to ride home, but I'll be back in action by May. Thanks for posting pics. -B

    Scouting ride April 7th

Riding into town on The Smoker at 8.....feel free to walk into Amerient (same parking lot as Packard's) and join me for breakfast and/or coffee between 8:15 & 9.....looking forward to the meet and greet with some "new to me" folks.....welcome to SDAR. See you there in about 30 minutes.
  8. Craig, Are you leading the pre-run this Saturday? I'll be joining you guys for the SYTT and Black Canyon, but I have to head back home and get back to work in the kitchen when we hit the 76. If you guys make it to Anza, will you consider coming back down the Cooper-Cienega trail and report back on the condition of the road? That's our backup in case the Palomar Divide is in bad shape for the big bikes. -Blake
  9. Depending on the weekend, I'd love to join up. Would April 7th work for anyone?
  10. Agreed. Completely. I rode this trail numerous times on my r1100r with street tires and no dirt experience. SYTT is a great trail!
  11. I recommend that you check out the Dual Sport Riding Techniques DVDs and find a place to practice some of the drills. I usually go to the Torrey Pines glider port to practice my turns. There's also a good little area at the west end of Lake Sutherland where you're not going to bother anyone. Your apprehension towards riding in sand is totally natural, just get a little more time in the saddle under controlled conditions and you'll be fine. You can also bypass these trails and hit the easier stuff with us.
  12. It's definitely 1200GS-able, I've run that trail many times on the 1100 and it is no harder than the top end of Grapevine.
  13. That's unfortunate. Perhaps we can start a petition?
  14. Good point. Route edited!! Wait! If the Santa Ysabel TT is open, why don't we head up to Pamo Road and take SY TT over to Black Canyon. We can ride Mesa Grande out to the 79 from there.
  15. I'd say let's let the Hijinks thread be what it is: an on-going update for the next ride in line. Right now, it looks like this will be the next big ride.
  16. Anyone is welcome (encouraged) to join me on the Utah trip. I'm excited beyond words about this trip.
  17. San Diego Adventure Hijinks, Round 2. :-) Your route looks good. I'm camping and my iPhone isn't the best tool for viewing the map, but how are you getting us from Descanso out to the Stage Route? Is that a trail? Also, the end of May is when I'm doing the 9-day Utah ride. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=764019 -B
  18. Stagecoach to Anza...and beyond. Maybe we stop near Idyllwild.
  19. There's a section of trails that I have been wanting to try out north of the area we rode last weekend. Based on reports from Rider914, it sounds like it is very big bike-able. Perhaps this would be a good way to make our way north. http://g.co/maps/x2pty My route stops at my aunt's house, but there's a pretty good network of trails beyond my route. -Blake
  20. I had an absolute blast with everyone. I think another overnighter is in order soon! Perhaps Joshua Tree...
  21. Alright everybody, tomorrow is the big day and if yesterday is any indication as to how my day will go today, I'm going to be swamped. I took one last pass through the group list and randomly assigned riders to the missing leader and sweeper positions. I'm not sure how everyone in group 4 feels about the route, so if none of you is comfortable leading, we may just disband the group and mix you in with the other groups. We'll sort out any changes at the gas station tomorrow, until then I'll be drowning in work. This is the FINAL update to the ride info post. Can't wait to see everyone tomorrow! -Blake http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=17942909&postcount=407

  23. PLEASE DO NOT QUOTE THIS, SO AS NOT TO CONFUSE ANYONE. THIS MAY BE EDITED LATER IF WE HAVE CHANGES AND I WILL REPOST. San Diego Adventure Route Ride and Camp February 11th and 12th, 2012 Butterfield Ranch Resort and Campground: 14952 Great Southern Overland Stage Route Julian, CA 92036 (760) 765-1463 Tent Camping is $20/night with a 10% discount for groups of 8 or more, circles available. I put a deposit down to reserve a large group camping ring, so bring $20 and we can square up when we get to the site. Lunch the first day is at the Hideout by Lake Henshaw. Bring food for the evening at the camp. We will stop in Julian for breakfast on Sunday, unless everyone wants to make breakfast at the campsite. Up to you guys. Mananas Mexican in Alpine for lunch on the second day. Copyright Alert! The following is the original work of H8chains, but it's sage advice and deserves to be repeated. "Ride any bike, as long you can keep up with the rest of the group Bike must be in good mechanical condition, properly maintained and with good tires Bring all the essential spare parts This is not a race, the rider in front will be responsible for the rider behind him or her. Unless it’s obvious, stop at all Ys or Ts and wait for the next rider. Stop before and after a water crossing, big ruts, and other hazards and make sure the rider in front and behind get through safely. Warn the person behind if needed. No Rogue Riders or Lurkers who will show up on the day of the ride and hi-jack other riders or set the riding pace! IT WILL BE THE RIDE LEADER OF EACH GROUP WHO WILL SET UP THE PACE." The plan: Saturday, February 11th, 2012 9:30 AM - Meet at the Mobile Station at SR 76 and I-15 Day 1 will end at Butterfield Ranch. Day 2 will end at Alta Road?
