Welp, goofyfooter and I spent a couple hours yesterday cleaning out the carb and I found that the little jet(pilot jet?) was clogged. I cleaned it out, put everything back together, started back Iono problem. There was a bunch of junk coming out of the exhaust, kinda like a thick smokey gunk when I have it some gas, there's still oil leaking from somewhere and I notice it now has a busted forkseal. Oh well at least I got it running. On another note, goofy and I went on a quick test ride where his new to him dr350 managed to stop working. I had to ride back to the house and come rescue him once again. "victory is short lived"

Crushed Oreos and Popped Tubes
bboyle9 replied to Goofy Footer's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
U would take a whole pack of oreos on a day ride -
First u buy a DR, now u want the same helmet I have, what's next....trade in the taco I might have a line on a 03 Buick wit a trailer hitch.

Thanks for all the offers guys. I imagine a carb rebuild should be in the works, I've just been reluctant to start tearing things apart with my limited know how. Sorta reassuring to hear that the problem may be easily fixed. When I make some time I'll look at it and bug one of you guys to help me fix it. Its prolly due for some engine work anyhow

Yea tried bumpstarting it going down the 805 to 8 east merge and I ended up just sliding the back tire all over the place in rush hour traffic. Maybe I'll just buy a pumper carb and the Procycle 790 kit and call it a day

sell the land cruiser, buy some suzuki yellow rattle cans. spend a couple extra bucks on some very necessary tacoma mods. i see us rolling down mission blvd during the summer blasting some whitney houston.

beginner trails this week?
bboyle9 replied to Bakertool13's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I might b if the plan is for the weekend. And baker I could meet u up and ride out there with u I'm just not promising we find the trail head as I've been known to get lost. I do however promise to try and crash as little as possible -
What I don't get is that u can buy a said "repair kit" for your legal high cap mag (assuming u owned it before 2000) but no one ever registered how many high cap mags they had. Or am I wrong? Basically if you have one legally owned high cap mag, there's no way of someone telling u recently bought a "repair kit" and assembled it.

Well leaving nice and early in hopes of missing LA traffic. Gonna be a long day but hopefully cruising the prettiest road in the US will make up for jr. Let the adventure begin!

U just missed the gunshow, there will prolly be another one in July. great place to buy stuff if you know exactly what you want, and you know your stuff. Just like any swapmeet type deal there's plenty of people trying to tell you things are something they aren't. But if you know what you want you can find it there.

Well, I made it back safe and sound. Probably not wisest choice I've ever made to ride back in the rain, but it was an experience...plus I was told there would be beer and single women at the end of my journey, and my Irish grandfather would roll over in his grave if he knew I ever passed on free beer on St. Pattys day. For most the day the heavens floodgates were unrelenting, continuous downpour had me forgetting what it felt like to be dry. There was a point when I thought about selling my bike to the first farmer with 200bucks or an airplane, and chartering a flight to death valley where I would bask in the glowing sun until my body was littered with sun induced blisters. But somewhere between hypothermia and delirium two guys on gsa 1200s were headed north on the 101 and as they passed they both threw up their rain soaked arms with a welcoming wave. I doubt they could see through the curtain of rain, but amid one of the rainiest days I've ever seen, I was grinning from ear to ear. Well whoever said happiness cures everything has never ridden their bike 400 miles through the pouring rain I eventually outran the rain only to be greeted by Poseidons fury and gale force winds that blew me across the road like those tumbleweeds you see in the movies. I got to Calabasas gassed up, warmed up by putting my hands on the exhaust can and doing pushups in the freeway side Arco station. Must have been delirium but I swear I could feel the hot shower and taste the cold beer. I'll spare everyone the details of the evening but I would have ridden all the way to Cabo in the rain to recreate last night. Don't think I'll be riding in the rain anytime soon. In fact if it never rains again I won't be sad if we end up living in a post apocalyptic Mad Max road warrior desert. All in all, it was totally worth it. A little planning would've made for a better trip but there's no feeling like heading a direction without a plan. Thanks to everyone for the borrowed gear and help. Left at 4 am , got here at 7pm. I'm pretty tired, mostly just cuz for the last three hours the rain has been smashing my face since I couldn't close my sheild without it fogging. Awesome day, definitely an adventure I'll write something when my head stops ringing and I can feel my fingers again

Planning on exploring on the way back. This is the first time I've riden this far and o.wanted to comfortable knowing where I was going. I'll check those routes on the way back for sure

Morro bay for gas up, Cayucos for fish tacos, onward and upward...what a beautiful day!
-
Made it to Santa Barbara no problem, things I've learned already on this trip: The DR is built not for speed nor comfort, rather a mediocre combination of both designed to get you where you're going. Turns out LA traffic isn't fun even on a bike. Warm clothes are indispensable The air hawk cushion works great even though kinda makes u feel like your on a waterbed at times. California is beautiful. More to come

So the bike is pretty much good to go, thanks to trophyhunter for lending me some goodies to make the journey a little more comfortable. Goofyfooter and I changed the tire, it was super fun.......I haven't sworn that much since the last Chargers game I watched. And after watching videos of some super human mechanic from Dunlop, we were able to get it situated. I finished my tool tube and I'll post pictures when I can make it to a computer. I can fit A LOT of stuff in that thing, its 3" PVC and ended up being about 16" long. Tahoe is looking iffy now with the weather...so some route planning is gonna be in order. Paul if ur around tomorrow I'll prolly come knocking on your door. Just don't tell my mom. Still can't believe my buddy got a free fishing trip to Costa Rica...I think id have a better chance of finding Atlantis in the Santee lakes. but so the journey continues on, wouldn't be an adventure if I knew exactly what was gonna happen... I think they call those vacations.

Well im sure many of you remember this: Whimsical and Poorly Planned Adventure It was completed by Goofyfooter on my trusty DR 650, and though the bike is a little worse for wear these days (currently running a modified race exhaust seen here DR 650 Race Exhaust)its no less capable for an adventure. Insert here, the location: Albuquerque, NM. 765 mi. Reason: free place to stay, Goofy has already completed this route and could potential point me in the direction of any roach infested prostitute laden motel six in case of an emergency, and according to the ten day forecast should be a little warmer then headed up north this time of year. Ive got a 5 gallon tank on the bike, plan on regearing it to make it a little more freeway friendly, and Goofy is going to lend me his GPS, Spot, tools, and advice/guidance(last time i trusted him we ended up not picking up 3 cute, blonde, bikini wearing hitchhikers so im not sure how valuable this is) My plan is to leave early Wed 14th, bomb it as far as i can with all intentions of making it to Albuquerque in one day sometime before it becomes painfully frigid. then ill leave saturday the 17th try to make the trip back in one day, but have the option of stopping and completing the journey on sunday. Not sure if its youth, or the gentle cajoling of an adventure obsessed friend, or the fact that ive been unemployed for 3 months, just got a job and have 2 weeks before society reshackles my effervescent freedom...but i want to do this and know that i can. hell if goofy can do it, it cant be that hard right? all that being said, the longest day ive ever done on a bike was about 300 miles. ive completed much longer days driving solo but i am completely aware that this is going to be a different beast. And now to you SDAR... I have the Who, What, When, Where, Why, now i just need a little help with the HOW. ANY advice, thoughts, mental exercises, to help me complete my journey is GREATLY appreciated and i can contribute a beer and a story in return for your guidance. I mean if anything bad ends up happening i just figure ill ditch the bike and go all Henry David Thoreau and write a book or something.

Uncle champ, I appreciate it...hopefully on my way out my zealousness will get me thru El centro and on the way back I'll be considering El centro the home stretch. Twist the throttle and smile, I think that's good advice, well see how much smiling I feel like doing when I'm prolly freezing my butt off. Bought some heat gear earlier today and the tool tube should be finished by tonight so things are looking good.

Stay warm, got it. Anyone have suggestions for warm gloves. And suggestions for thermal under?wear/compression shorts ?
-
Thanks for all the input guys I'll check adv and thumpertalk. I'm using 3 inch pvc and cap for one end and then a plumbing screw in top for the other. I'll take pics when I'm done

never got into RC planes or helicopters. but the more i think about the ideas being thrown out there...the more i want to try it. ive seen plenty of downhill mountain biking videos and skate videos that utilize this kind of technology. wonder why no ones tried it with dirtbikes yet.

P1's Perspective of DD2012
bboyle9 replied to SteelRain's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
This is awesome, the candid nature of all these photos truly encapsulates the comradery and generosity displayed by everyone involved. thanks David for taking the time to look through all these pictures and tell "p1" she did a great job. as for next year, I'm sure goofy will still have his landcruiser sitting around and as long as it runs I'll gladly volunteer myself to chauffeur around the photography crew. And if anything bad happens I'm sure we could just fix it with safety wire. -
