    Informal GPS course?

Hey, Kelly, I do believe we've found one of the GPS pros who will present info at your upcoming course. Thanks, Tim! You da man!
  2. $65 includes dinner and breakfast. I'm related to the owners, as it were... http://www.ranchoelcoyote.com/

    Informal GPS course?

I'm in. I have the Zumo 660 and a Magellan Meridian I recently acquired. Thanks for the offer of hosting at your place; that's convenient. We would need the GPS pros to be there to present a basic to intermediate course on using tracks. So it's really up to their schedule.
  4. El Coyote is a great option if you're in that area. Dang! When did CCs change the pricing? I was there in 2016. That was quite a deal, too. Ah, prolly the peso drop...
  5. Mike's was $90 per person, no matter how many were stuffed in a room. I heard it often tops $100 on some weekends, though. Comes with a good meal, though! And I've stayed in the dorm-style rooms at CC's at $12 a person, and that included dinner and breakfast.
  6. "Hook the reader with an interesting first line," said my Comp/Lit prof. "Be provocative," he said. Sheesh...I really should stick to riding vs writing.
  7. I woke up with hard nipples. Sure, it was a brisk morning, but the aforementioned nipples were likely caused by the anticipation of my first ride since having ankle surgery...over 4 months ago. And me without having been on 2 wheels since. But I'm getting ahead of myself... The last time I rode was pre-surgery in August. I was joined by some SDAR types and had a great day of all pavement fun (see this RR: So I was chatting with Bob about bikes recently and I mentioned that I may get out on a quick ride...just to see how the ankle holds up. He offered to come along on Sunday so the ride was set. Bob has a snazzy new bike (NC700) that has quite a bit of pep. When I said so at a stop light, he quipped, in BS fashion, "It's the rider, not the bike." And so it is... It was to be an easy ride, almost all pavement. We started in Alpine and did some twisty stuff through the neighborhoods. Then up Pine Creek Road to Sunrise Highway. It was 42 degrees at the bottom of the hill but warmed up to the 60's. We stopped at the hang glider overlook then headed to Cuyamaca and Engineer's Road. It's nice to see the water is up at the lake, BTW. We witnessed a couple walking their horse, dogs and goats (no leashes) along the road. You can do that kind of thing in the unincorporated backcountry areas... After that it was a blast through Ramona and onto the 67. We split up near Santee after a nice 3-hour ride.
  8. I'm trying to keep this PG/family friendly but you're making it awful difficult...
  9. That is good news, Tim.
  10. But will you finish the entire order? ? We've gotta get back out there...when they're actually open.
  11. Nice to know that nipples are again in vogue. It was beautiful up in the hills today. I guess that area always is. And here's a photo Bob snapped.
  12. I couldn't find a list of POEs that have SENTRI lanes on the CBP site. I'm pretty sure that all CA crossings except Andrade and Tecate have SENTRI lanes. https://www.easysentri.com/sentri-lane-locations/
  13. Looks like Tim's questions were answered. There are several issues involved in the crossing process, none of which are difficult for a US citizen (without warrants) to overcome with a smile. SENTRI is for a pre-approved person and vehicle. You can mix and match pre-approved persons and vehicles. I've said this many times before but I'll say it again: A passport is handy and preferred but not necessary (for a US citizen) to cross back into the US (no need to quote me the regulations). Ready lines are for passports or passport cards (not SENTRI cards, not drivers licenses and definitely not tattered copies of birth certificates). Crossing in a ready line with one of those last 3 items will cause you grief but no major (lasting) issues. Crossing with improper docs or vehicles or attitudes will land you in secondary for a "cooling off" period and possibly a fine. And PMB said what I say: Almost none of these issues apply to motorcycles crossing back into the USA (unless you use a SENTRI lane without a card or pre-approved bike).

    Informal GPS course?

Good info, Kelly! It looks like we have several GPS gurus eager to assist with the class. And Goofy Footer will serve drinks and let us slap his ass as he walks by. TDay is good for me, too. Who can set up a loose agenda of what we'll need, etc.?

It seems improbable that someone can out caffeine or out ADD me, but you've appeared to have done it, Tim.

You're spot on with your assessment. I think I'll wait for the n00b course. That'll be a good beginning.

    Informal GPS course?

I'll do that. But I really want to learn more about tracks. I'm already proficient at crashing.
