  1. Do they ever set up check points on these type of rides? If riders were given an ID number and went thru a checkpoint they could be accounted for.... maybe too complicated.
  2. Trying to follow BikeSlut on the big KTM proved too much for me and my machine. After pricing engine rebuilds and considering all the other problems and damage that she had I decided to sell the bike. No takers at $1500 for the whole thing so I parted it. Off to Florida, San Francisco, Hunington Beach, Idaho, and other places. It was a sad day when I tore the bike into pieces but I felt good shipping parts to other people. The next challenge - Crating a 90 lb LC4 engine. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=642781&highlight=2004

    Goodbye to my old SXC

HOLD ON A SEC! Blame Ranger, not me... I was just an innocent bystander... seriously; sorry about that... ranger is rough on a big bike, and jetting that is just a bit lean really takes it's toll as long as I have two bikes, you'll have one to ride Thanks Bob, Blame the jetting! And no fan kit on the bike. Anyway I got another bike that will allow dual-sporting at a very pedestrian speed. Not much time to ride - we are getting a Bank owned house in Allied Gardens and have to fix it up to live in. We must also fix up our current house in La Mesa to sell! Moving Again! Paul

    Self Pity Thread

I broke my Humorous and dislocated my shoulder way back. Yes it does suck, the recovery time was soooo long because the shoulder had to be immobilized. Not a fun PT. Much worse than the time I shattered my wrist. Don't stay on the self-pity train too long! Look forward and plan for your future, it will take time to recover. You might be able to do some things other than watch tv while you are laid up. maybe clean the bike, go to the desert and hang out / camp? Did you have a protector with shoulder pads when you crashed?

  9. No Huskys? Not 610s - that bike needs its own middle group between larger and smaller. Anyway this sounds like great fun - riding and camping with the bike as the pack mule. That is true ADV riding.

    Good/Bad weekend

Cool - a used engine for less that the tow. If you need to borrow an engine hoist and stand you can use mine. They have just been sitting in the back yard for a long-time.

A bald guy at Costco Sunday Morning 11-28 wearing a Desert Dash t-shirt. He jumped in a light colored Prius.
  12. San Diego Bloodmobile was at my work today. - Walked in and donated using the ST01 code. They looked it up and said it would go to the Lakeside Saddle Tramps. Walk into any SD Blood Bank location and use the code ST01

  14. Sometimes unimaginable things happen and who knows how you will react. I have been following the story. On Yahoo people were commenting about drunk Mexicans after the driver was arrested for suspicion of DUI. But one of the Saddle Tramps (the prez?) said that the Driver of the car that hit them was a victim of the driver that forced him off the road. Turns out the Mexican Driver had NO Alcohol in his system. The best thing that we can do is look forward. I am sure many lessons can be learned from this tragic event. Even if monetary support won't bring the victims back it could help take some financial stress off the families. If the Saddle Tramps are accepting Donations I suggest that we start a pool and donate on behalf of SDAR. Maybe even sell items with the procedes going to this pool? Also: They are having a blood drive at a HD dealer on Saturday for the victims - anyone know the details?
  15. If you are going solo Jasper is a good trail to go on. Regularly traveled by Jeeps, mountain bikes, and DS bikes. I usually take a lunch break at one of the pull-outs when I ride it solo.
  16. That is one of my favorites - doubt I could make it but if something changes...
  17. Yeah I got caught in the rain Last Monday and Tuesday cause I put the TDi in the shop for a timing belt. Should have had a Honda Aquatrax for the commute. The rest of the week I just drove the Pacer from La Mesa to San O. Let me know when you get the new facility goin. We will be neighbors.

Dirt Bike Tour Guide job anyone?

To be 20 again! I would be all over this. Well maybe not - still scared of upper Baja. A couple guys at work ponied up for one of these rides and had the time of their lives. Great food, Pro riders leading, treated like Kings.
  20. My rides are always more Epic in my own mind! I started early and Superslabbed it to the PV Exit. Took the trail to Kernan then picked my way down and dropped in on BS and Matt at Morena Stokes. Not enough real dirt time lately. I think as was tired by the time I met up with these guys. Then the fun began as I attempted to keep up with 3 talented riders and manuver my pig thru tight single track and power lifting the bike several times. After parting company it was back out Kernan thru PV. I was very tired. Matt you should remove the seat on your bike - Save the extra weight since you never use it.

    Blue inn to Superstition

For a fun challenge go to truck-haven and try to find the phonebooth without tracks!
  23. Ok - should be in for 7:15 ish. I will leave La Mesa close to 6am and ride out. I will bring my adventure pass to loan out if someone needs it. BS why do you stage all the way out at Morena Stokes instead of at the PV exit?
  24. In maybe -- details?

    Blue inn to Superstition

Sorry, I have a GPS that never gets used - no tracks! But it is easy to get to Superstition from the Blu Inn. Use these instructions if they make sense to you - or part of this was on the Desert Dash route (someone has tracks) Head South in San Felipe wash till you hit Pole line road ( the one that comes from the 78 ) take it toward chocolate mtn (right) to where it intersects the Gypsum mine train tracks and go south (left at the railroad tracks). Turn left toward superstition a bit south of the Pole line/train track intersection where the big pile of dirt with the remnants of a tractor trailer on top of it. The Navy placed this here about 25 years ago to mark the wreckage of a plane - parts are scattered toward the east of this. Pilots still use this as a marker to turn for their bombing runs. Continue on to SS. Coming back from SS you could take Pole line to the 78 turn left and go to Blu Inn. - it is difficult to pick up San Felipe wash going back. The area west of the farms is fun with small dunes - very easy to get separated and no one clear path. On your way there stick together and head toward chocolate Mtn you will hit pole line or the train tracks so it is hard to get lost. And always look out for washouts on Pole line
