  1. Hello, nice report. Wanted to let you guys know that I live about 15 minutes from all those singletrack trails in the hills above Apple Valley. Been riding up there for over thirty years and know the area very very well. If you ever want personal tour it would be a pleasure to do so for any of you. By the way if Robert Nantista see this, he knows my son Harry Lyles from the Westchec Enduro Series. Harry learned to ride in those hills. Glenn
  2. Hi Don, and Jon Wish I could make the Greenhorn ride this weekend but my son is coming over today and were going to set up and break in his new race bike on our local trails. He bought at All American KTM yesterday. I have the next few weekends available for a ride and campout , i'm off work Fri Sat Sun every weekend. Let me know when the next Greenhorn ride goues down!! Glenn Apple valley
  3. You guys have a great weekend, wish I could make it but family events on the 5th and 6th keep me home. Please give me a heads up on the next one and i'll repay with a tour of the the trails near my house when summers over. If anyones up for another ride up there let me know, i'm off work from 7/8 to 7/14. glenn
  4. My son is racing the District 37 Enduro at The Ranch in Anza on Sunday next weekend. If all works out we'll go down there Saturday morning and while him and his buddies ride moto I'd like to get out and dualsport around the area. Anyone have a route recomendation? I would prefer a bit more fun loop with some jeep roads , washes, and singletrack if possible. Don't want to ride miles and miles of graded road or pavement. Thanks, Glenn
  5. Hello Robert! My son Harry Lyles rode on the minute with you and your buddies at the Anza Qualifer back in September. He was the young guy on the KTM 250sx. Anyway we have a great single track spot up the road from our house in Apple Valley that I'm told is similar to Boulevard, or Mc cain, or maybe even a mini Tecate, that we've been riding for years. You guys should plan a day up here some time and we'll take you on a little trail ride. I have friends that live in San marcos area that come up her a few times a year that really love it. Fridays and Saturdays are best for us, but not this Friday unfortunately.
  6. Intermediate level trail ride for plated bikes this Thursday. The route will be 70% single track winding through Pinyon Pines and boulder formations at 3500 to 5500 elevations.. The ride location is about 15 minutes from my house in Apple Valley. Bike and rider must be in good running condition, rider has to carry water, tools, and supplies to repair a flat on the trail. The pace will be friendly trail ride style, but we'll only take one long break for lunch. You'll need to bring lunch/snacks for the trail. The area I'll be riding got rain all yesterday afternoon and acouple inches of snow overnight. More of the same type of weather is forecast for tomorrow so Thursday will have prime chocolate cake dirt. I plan to have kickstands up no later than 9:00am,finish by 3-4 pm. Ride will be 60-70 miles if we stick to mostly trails and a few roads. These are some of the best trails in my part of the High Desert!! Whos in?
  7. Whoops! Beautiful morning shaping up here, a little cold right now at 6:30 am, 37 degrees showing on the backyard thermometer. Thats fine, since it's going to warm up nicely today, high seventies here in the desert and low to mid sixties up in the trees this afternoon. One brave soul from SDAR is coming along, gonna ride lots of great trails that I've been fotunate to be exposed to for 30 plus years. We won't be riding Gold Mtn, White Mountain, or Redonda Ridge. Those trails are great for grinding you down for the pursuit of the BBTR plaque and BBTR does a great job with what they have to work with, but me and my crew never ride those, they are pretty much all rock and silt. Got other trails that are much more enjoyable. Next opportunity for me to ride is Nov 10-14, I have 5 days off work, YAY!!!!
  8. First BB training ride is tomorrow morning at 9:00am from my house in Apple Valley. Fifteen minutes from my driveway to dirt.
  9. I live on the desert side of the mountains, lots of great training trails easily accessed about 15 minutes from my house. Much better trails than what you would see on the BBTR events, but still good training for beater stuff.
  10. I'm riding up to the Big Bear area from my house in Apple Valley on Saturday. Really great riding in the desert foothills of the San Bernardinos on the way to the pines. Stands up about 9:00 back around 5:00pm. Intermediate level ride, relaxed pace.
  11. Yep, but we moved it from Apple Valley to our spot between Barstow and Ft. Irwin, just to freakin windy at home with 40mph winds. What a difference 45 miles northeast makes. Great wet chocolate cake dirt, no wind at all, partly cloudy skies.Sixty miles of singletrack, we saw no other humans, got dumped on with rain when the storm finally moved in about 2:00pm, but we were only 15 miles from the truck. Double Doulbles and fries at In n Out in Linwood warmed us up on the way home. Next ride 12/26, dualsport from my house to the good stuff.
  12. We're obviously watching the weather up here. Rain is a deal breaker, a bit of scattered sprinkles no worries. I'm seeeing 40 to 60% chance in the foothill area, less on the open desert. I'll have to make the call on Saturday, it's way too far to drive for a rain out. I have a friend that comes out on occasion from San Elio/San Marcos area and it takes him about 2 hrs 15 minutes on a good day to get to my spot. If rain is too much for Sunday we'll head out to the desert. The closest open desert riding is 20 minutes north of here in Stoddard Wells but it's beat and we don't ride there. We ride desert at an epic spot we call Copper City Rd., north east of Hinkley between Ft Irwin and Barstow. Bout 50 minutes away for us but way too far for a day ride for most San Diego dudes, although KKug did it once. The day Ken came out last year was carzy freakin windy so he got a less than ideal ride. Any way I'll toss out a weather report on Saturday afternoon and make plans based on that. If we get rained out, I'm off work from 12/23 to 1/3 and can squeeze in a couple rides during that time frame.
  13. The good stuff, lots of singletrack, 4000 to 5000 ft elevation, winding through Pinyon Pines, Joshua Trees and Granite formations. Ride spot is about 15 minutes from my house in Apple Valley. Intermediate level terrain and pace. 50-60 miles, 5-6 hours away from the trucks, on the bikes by 9:00am. No dualsport needed. All welcome. Glenn
