Welocome to the club. I just completed both BRC and ERC(now BRC2) up here at Camp Pendleton, enjoyable courses and learned a bit to. -
Here is an example of High Speed lane splitting (120mph at night this dude was stuck here for 3 miles until someone pulled the trucker over to tell him there was someone stuck to the rear of his truck)
-
I think it boils down to that the Police are jelous that they cannot lane split in thier car during traffic and then they see us do it, they get mad and want to pull us over for high speed, to those who lane split at high speed well your a dumb ass anyways LOL.

I agree from the picture, the only thing I would remove would be the battery cable so the grounding of the bike with the welder doesn't fry something important ie. computer. Take all your measurements for a new tab and then cut off the old one and grind everything nice and clean before starting anything. I would use a wire welder or a tig welder which ever is more abundant to you. Make sure before mounting the new tab you drill out the hole on it so after welding it on you don't tweek the new tab in a goofy way. I would also agree on the fire blanket or even an old scrap piece of leather to be placed over the rear brake master cylinder so slag doesn't sit on it and burn into it. Hope the fix goes well if you need any more advice hit me up. I apologize if I wrote this at like a beginner level like grinding and stuff, I was not sure the welding experience you have. Before coming in the Marine Corps I worked at a welding shop in Texas and also have about 6 years before that in welding.

There were a few people that had asked me about riding the back roads on Camp Pendleton. Well I spoke to the Game Warden and there is a new base order that does not allow riders on any of those roads anymore. They also said that runners, mountain bike riders and horse back rides are no longer allowed on any of them as well. Just thought I would let you all know about this. -

Im not to sure about that issue, I do know that as a civilian you can get on base with a drivers licence and Im not sure about fishing at the lake. I know as a Marine you have to pay 5 bucks for the permit to fish at the lakes on base. -
I tried to upload a PIC but it was to large. But to give you a heads up it is all Black.
