    Well Crap

So last weekend I am walked in the Temecula Motorsports and was goofing around and the salesman tells me trade your bike in for a new one, great time to do it lots of rebates. So I toy with the idea all week long and yesterday I go in with my 2009 DRZ and he says we can do this and this and I said HAHA I am not paying that much as a good salesman walks back over and does this 2 more times and then comes back with a totally new offer. I end up walking away trading my DRZ paided off and a 2012 Kawasaki EX650 Ninja. Rode it to work this morning and wow what a difference on the open rode. I loved my DRZ it was a blast and very fun but driving it back and forth to Camp Pendleton, I was afraid of shelling the motor at highway speeds all the time.

    WR or DR-Z

I have a 2009 DRZ-400 S to date I have done the 3x3 mod easy to do, slip on FMF loud pipes save lives in traffic LOL, stage 1 Carb kit( I want the stage 2 but have not ventured to buy it yet), 4 gallon tank and gearing to 15/44. I ride my bike to work in the warmer weather from Murrieta to Camp Pendleton and take the 15 and I have no issues roaring down the rode at 80+ at times and the throttle has more to give and the motor is just purring along.. Have fun choosing a bike.

    Dunlop 606 tires

A few months back I got a full set of 606s and they have around 2200 miles on them both trail and highway. Today I pulled up tp my house and noticed that my rear tire has a small crack/split near the outside in between the lugs. No idea how deep it is no idea how much longer they will last me, Cycle Gear told me to bring it in and they can look at it and determine warranty or whatever if anything. JUst figured I would throw this in here for those who might be looking or thinking of the 606.

    Question of the day

SO this afternoon I tore into my bike front steering stem and swingarm bearings. No noticable wear on any parts but after 5100 miles they all still had the factory grease on them "Light coat" as usual so I repacked all berings with grease and checked tire pressure on the tires they say 36 lbs max and then looked on the bike and it says 10-18 front 18-25 rear or something like that so I put air in them both and went with 30 rear and 25 front and ran it down the road after all back together and the wobbles were cut way down to a manageable wobble at 75 without the feeling that I am sitting on a bucking bull or something crazy... I do know when I hit the trails I will air them down inorder to get thse 606s to dig in more... Thanks again for all the info...

    Question of the day

Its not derailing its just talk, I commute to Camp Pendleton from Murrieta on my bike and was just curious what people were doing. I do find if I come up besides a truck or car my bike runs smooth if im in that air current. Thanks to all that have shared.

    Question of the day

2009 DRZ 400s with Dunlop 606s all around what tire pressure would you all recommend for the highway, I have been playing with them since I have had them and still get the feeling I am not doing them the right way, due to wobbles on the highway at speeds around 70ish.

    AFX FX-39

Nice report, a few months ago I bought the cheap knock off version from Joe Rocket and its alright feeling for 99 dollars it is DOT approved the visor does its job and the shield does the same, the only thing is the fit they fit big. I wear a medium in FOX and with this Im sitting with a small. Just my 2 cents worth its an option out there for people that dont want to spend the big bucks on a DS Helmet..

    Rattlesnake Increase

Good Morning SDAR, I know now one is dumb but I wanted to pass this along. THis year with the heat up and rain not so good so far there is an increase in Rattlesnake population and they are thick on the trails and all over the place. I work on Camp Pendleton and walking and running so far this year we have seen more then the past few years and I know some of the places we all ride and enjoy life away from the crazy people thier will be lots of snakes. So watch out for those sleeping bags campers and plies of brush that might be overlooked and be safe this year out on the trails.

Carb Adjustment: How much Turn is in a Turn?

Most of your Motorcycle Carbs are 360 degrees, I use a mirror if I cannot see the screw slot and then as someone above said mark it with a sharpie and then turn away until she runs better. Just remember once you turn it to where you think it needs to be let it warm up then kill it and start it again to see if there is a difference.. Have Fun

    Protective Gear Advice please!

I found my pants on Craigslist from a dude on Vista in real nice shape brand new for 35 bucks they are the FLY pro series. As for Helmet I have 2 when I bought my bike I got a FOX V2 i believe and I like it its comfy and I recently bought a Joe Rocket dual sport helmet, its comfy as well and they are sized wierd, its nice to wear when its chilly out keeps that breeze off your face. Jacket as well when I got my bike I got a Fox jacket that I have been pleased with and recently I was at Cycle Gear and on the clearance rack was a Oneil Jaket with pockets all over and a removable inner liner, the jacket is comfy, but has no armor on arms like the FOX has.. My boot I found on Pendleton Yard sale off a fellow Marine for 20 bucks they are THOR that were barely worn at all and I like them, a little stiff, and I also have a pair of Frank THomas riding shoes that are nice and comfy as well.. Hope this helps a little if at all...

Bruce Penhalls youngest son killed by drunk driver

I know its not funny but I always seem to find the crud ass humor in tragedy.. The drunk ass asian or what ever his name is that hit him the last few letters in his name MOTO, what a way for a motorcycle racing champ to go out being hit by a drunk dude named moto. Its a terrible thing that people dont learn thier lessons about drinking and driving I wonder if it was the guys first one, with the state of CA its hard to tell it might have been this guys 4th or 5th but this time he is looking at manslaughter so maybe his drunk ass will be off the road for a long time...

    Auto Paint - Recommendation?

I speak from from past experience, I worked at a body shop for a year before coming into the Marines..... Black is one of the hardest colors to paint and match becuase it shows everything. A supply list for you is pretty much the same as one of the posts above, the primer that is on there is not ment to really be used to paint on, take some 1000 grit and wet sand the whole thing or even a scothbright pad with water, once done wipe it clean with clean water making sure the surface is clean. Once clean use your primer and apply a couple good coats and wet sand it as well once dry and cure to make sure your paint is applied to a smooth surface. once that is dry and wetsanded apply your black in even thin smooth coats until you like what you see. Once the black is good you can clear coat it making sure to be careful as the clear runs very easy and on black you can see it from far away.. After all said and done you should have one nice clean fender. If the car is not needed everyday you can paint the edges of the fender let it dry and install it on the car then tape it off and paint it on the car and you wont have to worry about messing it up when installing it... Hope this helps some.

    Tire Selection

Thanks everyone for the advice I spent a little more and I just did the Dunlop 606s for both, I read lots of reviews with some hits and misses but figured for the price and mileage expected out of them they seem to be a good choise for me.

    chain cleaning

At one time I used Zep 45 Penetrating Lubricant it is a teflon based spray that works very good. It was easy to come buy in Texas but out here in Ca, i found it on Amazon for like 145 a case YIKES... Know my chain gets a spray with the water hose and a spray with WD40 aka panther piss. Seems to work good enough to keep the pig going down the road.
