I lived in metro PHX for 25 years. What king of dirt are you looking for? Scenic or just easy? A few-hour ride? All-day ride?

Another easy trail is Boulder Creek Road. It's the yellow section heading south from Julian and connects to Viejas Grade (a very easy one):

90% in.

I'm riding tomorrow but not on this one. When it looked like the start time moved back to 12:00 noon I committed to different ride.

I have my SPOT 2 running whether riding street or off-road. For me and my SO it's a matter of setting expectations. I told her that when I ride that we may stop for an hour ( like lunch) or a few hours if someone has a flat,etc. In other words, don't worry if we don't move for an hour or two. She also asks when she should expect me home... and I'm punctual. If I'm not home by the time I said I would be, she can look on the SPOT page to see where I am and if I'm moving. If I am, she knows everything is OK. I also programmed the custom message button to send,"I'm on my way home" which I hit when we get back to pavement or we're done for the day and I'm heading for the house. The message goes to her email and cell phone which she has on if she's out in the car. We also have a "No news is good news" mindset: If she doesn't get a "911" or "Need Help", everything is fine. I also told her that if I am riding with others, just because I send a 911 message it doesn't necesarilly mean I'm in trouble. One of the other guys may gotten into a bad situation or we've witnessed an accident and someone else needs an EMT, in which case I'll call her and tell her I'm OK and someone else needs the help.

I received this today after clicking the link in the above post which sent a letter/email to my representative. One small step forward.

I know exactly where it is. My research to date reveals locked gates between it and pavement.

When I say dual sport I'm referring to the bikes in the shot rather than the terrain - so anything with knobbies is a dual sport to me. Adventure bikes are welcome; heck, it is an offroad adventure show. This is basically a scenic street ride under 2 hours with the chance to grab lunch at the beach after. That said, there is some dirt, sand and small whoops/ruts at some of these locations. I rescheduled for 3/27 so hopefully weather will be nice. I can make 3/27. I'll bring the Super Enduro.

Two questions: What's your definition of "dual sport"? Are you doing this rain or shine? Right now it's supposed to rain Sunday. Thanks.

I bought the SPOT II AKA SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger . Since the Globalstar satellites are always moving there's no guarantee that there's LOS to one when the SPOT units transmits your position. The SPOT II will save up to three positions reports while trying to contact a satellite. Once it does, it sends the three positiuon reports allowing reconstruction of your track. SPOT I does not do this. If it can't find a satellite when it tries to transmit, there's no report of your location. SPOT (which is now owned by Globalstar) calculates there's a 99% chance of contacting a satellite in three attempts (spaced 10 minutes apart). SPOT allows you to define who the messages ("OK","need help", "911" and a custom message you define) are sent to. Mine go to a couple of cell phones and email addresses. You can also create private or public tracking webpages. For public pages, just post the URL to whoever/whatever forum you want use. http://www.findmespot.com/
