  1. Having ridden Lark for the first time two weeks ago, I have an idea of what it would be like after a rain- like Tuesday, or any day this week, really. Anyone want to go put some dark stripes in the dirt?

    lark- ditchday

THAT was definitely a good day. Thanks all.
  3. I have only ridden with him once, briefly, a couple of weeks ago. I think he will be fine. We can all work on our rockclimbing skills.
  4. We will plan on Lark, then. I have never been. PM me for contact details.
  5. We might do Lark. We are looking to leave Carlsbad around 8:30, so we should arrive around 10:30
  6. Looks like my coworker and I are going, if it us just us, we will probably go to Corral Canyon, since I have been there once before. I have only seen what Bob showed me that day, so everything else will be exploring.
  7. I may have a coworker interested. Cleaning the pool sounds like a lot more fun than riding a dirt bike.
  8. Friday is now scheduled for a day off.
  9. If you click on the link next to g+/fb/, you can download the .kml for Google Earth. GPS Visualizer will convert it to .gpx
  10. Amend it to no plate needed, beat the crap out of Matt, and I might be in. No promises.
  11. Thanks for the track, we have run into some of the same gates. I also learned some new routes through 'areas of interest'. I am starting to plan a trip to the WSB round at Laguna Seca, 4 days up, 4 days back, if you (or anybody else) is interested. Big Bike friendly.
  12. NIce trip and writeup, count me in among those who would like a GPS track.
  13. Vid from the event.. I am kicking around the idea of doing all the D37 enduro series events this year- all 5 of them. No Anza event on the calendar this year. It sounds like the clubs got caught in tribal political crossfire.
  14. Most of this is based on the last time I tried this, which was July 2013. South of Neenach, your route from Pine Canyon Road to Lake Hughes was closed two years ago due to the Powerhouse fire, as well as your route from Lake Hughes to San Francisquito Canyon Road. If it is open you should really start this portion from Sandburg and the Old Ridge Route. This is some of my favorite dual sport route, but I don't expect it to be back open yet. Your route from Bouquet Canyon Road to Sierra Highway is open, and is in fact where we just did the enduro, along quite a bit of your route. The Soledad Canyon Road- Angeles Forest Highway section was closed due to fire damage 2 years ago. as is the Angeles Forest Highway- Angeles Crest Highway. It may have been reopened, but I wouldn't hold my breath. Cleghorn Road / Ridge is better than droning along 138 at that point. It is a good route. You have a bunch of stuff I will be waiting on a report about.
  15. http://www.moto-tally.com/D37/Enduro/Results.aspx They got Jon's first test time corrected- it was 0:30 (unbelievable, heh heh). There are still a lot of corrections to be made, unforturnately, more people are getting corrected to go in front of me than the other way around.
  16. The rain from the previous weekend helped, but areas that got a lot of sun exposure were still dusty. Trails in the shade were pretty good. 6 tests total, a lot of trail on the side of the hills with a serious penalty for going over the side. Fortunately, I only went over once, and it probably only cost me 15 seconds. One of the tests was a lot of high speed ridge top road, where I focused on not crashing. They had back to back tests right out of gas, the first of which had a lot of grass track style. If they had some rain in the week before, this one would have been epic. I think the area is one where you have to be creative to link the tests together, so there were a lot of trails and roads we saw 2-4 times. I have the impression that enduros in Europe are like this, especially on the local level. There wasn't anything terribly difficult, but there was one short downhill test that got a little hairy trying to go fast. Since logistics with me is always challenging, I never did connect with Jon and Seth. I see that Jon set an unbelievably fast time in the first test, and led the event overall after the first loop. I am currently listed in 27th, I am probably going to end up about there. I didn't crash all day and drove myself home. A good day of riding.
  17. If things go good, I will be coming up Saturday afternoon. If not so good, Sunday morning. PMs being prepped for PastaPilot and Seth, if someone else is going, speak up.
  18. It is looking pretty good like I am in for this. If someone wants to split a hotel room Saturday Night, let me know.

    First Trials Bike?

How much? You can PM me if you prefer.
  20. I don't like facing how bad I would have to suck to miss it this year. If I don't have an excellent excuse, you should just shoot me.
  21. Not taking issue with the disarray the US series has been in for a while, but, not only do I think Josh Hayes could qualifiy for a WSB race, I think he could qualify for a MotoGP race. I think that, because he has, and finished 7th, when he filled in for Tech 3 at Valencia in 2011. On a bike he had never sat on until two days before, at at track he had never seen, on Bridgestone MotoGP tires he had never ridden, with carbon brakes he had never used. Just because the US series has been seriously mismanaged doesn't mean the riders no longer know how to ride.

    James Stewart suspended

As a former Div I athlete, I could go on quite the rant about this. Suffice to say, drug testing in general is BS, and drug testing in motorcycle racing is complete BS. The idea that there is anything you can take that will make you faster is preposterous. Here are a couple of thought experiments. When he was 16 years old, James Stewart was 125cc national champion, and there are no age limits. No 16 year olds are capable of dominating in the NFL, NBA, TdF, or any other professional sport, except for maybe tennis. This is because, like tennis, what you need are skills, and sufficient fitness to last the race, or match. If you don't have the skills, you have no chance. Colin Edwards and Lance Armstrong are both Texans, and both ride motorcycles and bicycles. Any test of physical fitness goes one way. Any test that involves riding a motorcycle goes a different way, no matter how long, or how grueling. Colin would be cruising at a pace Lance could not even imagine. I knew this was coming, and that it would go this way.

    Any recommendations?

I would slightly amend day 3 as follows: Day 3 to malibu The Cerro Noreste-Lockwood Valley-33 segment is 80 miles of amazing road. 33 is fast, smooth, and pavement like a wood rasp. I would amend the day 2 end like this: Day 2 end 46 on the route you have gets a lot of traffic, and 1 right there isn't very interesting, and the coast will be freezing cold. Day 1 has a lot of freeway/straight line miles. I would do this: Day 1 If you haven't ridden Angeles Crest- it is amazing.
  24. Depends on how much new trail they have, and how much use the trails get normally. It will only be bad the first time through, after that the trail will be burned in good. I just like raining on your parade. This event is on my calendar, I just hope I can make it, and they get rain.
  25. First row is nice, if it is dusty. Maybe. There is a good chance there will be no trail for you to follow, so you will spend the day looking for the next course marking. Have fun. Yes, I am quite the wet blanket.
