    Yamaha XT clutch rebuild

Oil is a friction reducer. That is the whole point.
  2. Still on a 250 4T. I am really not sharp right now, I am still sore today. My bike needs some setup work, but I need to ride more to make that happen. I am going to be up in the Gorman area next week for thanksgiving. We are going to be hitting Gorman and/or Ballinger Canyon, if anyone wants to come up for a bit.
  3. This is the new name for the enduro I used to organize, and I am planning on going up, leaving Friday, returning Monday. I have room in the trailer and the motorhome. It would sure be nice if there was more rain in the forecast between now and then. http://teamflyingw.com/=W=/D36/2016/Enduro/events/11%2013%20Rnd-6%20%20Steam%20Donkey%20Enduro/flyer.pdf
  4. Not me riding, but you get the idea. Here is a vid of the first test I found
  5. Some rain showed up, so conditions were about as good as you could reasonably expect. I only crashed once (in a test), and finished and drove myself home. Considering how out of it I am right now, I am pleased. The ranger we (they, I, whatever is appropriate) used to work with has retired, and the new regime isn't as interested in promoting the use of the forest for events like this. The club is getting kind of worn down by the bureaucracy. Ridership was decent, hopefully there is an event next year.
  6. If the 50% chance of rain shows up Saturday am, it will be good. Otherwise, it is going to be really dusty, and dust in the trees takes away a lot of fun. Keep this spot open next year.
  7. Used to be called the WFO Enduro, a FS employee decided that was no longer acceptable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steam_donkey There is a steam donkey carcass adjacent to one of the trails, although you have to know where to look for it. Stonyford really needs rain prior to the event, it dries out really quickly. Right now, the only rain in the forecast is like 50% the day before, which would be epic. It can get rained out, but it takes a lot.
  8. I am working my way through this... Shane Watts is #1, I think Ty Davis is #71, I will try to make note of some of the others. I always liked to say that the grass tracks were like riding on a golf course, which gives you the idea. Most of them seemed to be in the town park, which was quite the change from US events, which are held as far from populations as possible. Every time control was in a town. I top 20'ed in class one of the grass tracks, and yes, there is a story on how that happened. I was faster than all the trophy guys. Another tidbit- I got really good at riding wheelies there.
  9. 292. I have only watched the opener, I would guess the focus is going to be on the trophy teams.
  10. I haven't had a chance to watch this yet, but thanks for the find. It should be interesting. I think the time for a new handle was a while ago, as this is kind of ancient history at this point.
  11. Entered. I am 50 now. I am trying to figure out logistics. Leaving Friday. The border crossing Saturday night last time took over 3 hours, I would like to avoid doing that again. I will be sleeping in my van unless someone has some other accommodations to offer up.
  12. Every rider at every race should just pull over and let Valentino win. That would be the sporting thing to do, and Valentino could win even more championships.

    Best Diesel < $10k

I have a 97 PSD E350, 265 000 miles, I ordered it new. One vacuum pump (I should have had it replaced under warranty, I am a dumbass), 2 crank position sensors, one covered under warranty, one covered under recall. I think that is it for the engine. Haven't had an issue with the trans (E40D), just whatever service the dealership does every 30K. I think I am on my 4th set of tires. The diesel in a van presents some challenges to work on, which is why I usually just take it to the dealer and let someone who works on them all the time deal with it. I have been dealing with a low power issue, I hope I have it IDed and fixed, I will report back. 17 mpg, which I am OK with. This is basically an industrial work truck that has spent its life occasionally hauling dirt bikes in the back, and has been really understressed. I have recently been dealing with old vehicle issues, e.g., peeling paint on the roof, I have to get the seats reupholstered, but nothing that makes me want to replace it, yet.

So I Bought Another Friggin' Honda

Congrats, I have a 95 that got moved to project status about 14 years ago, I would like to get it back running. I went through a bunch of R/Rs, although the one I have on it now has been lasting for a while. If I have a problem again, I would put on one of the Shindengen units, I have done this mod on my 990 and Aprilia- much better, I think.

    lamb at the fair

In case anyone was going to the livestock auction, and wanted to buy a lamb, and didn't have candidates picked out already... my son has one going to auction. Named Stutz, after the winning race car of the race associated with the 1915 Panama-California Exposition (the "Fair to Remember"). He is open to a barn sale. Carry on...
  16. I am on a big bike, so big bike friendly. I will post up later on the route, but 4 days riding up, 4 days back. A day layover in Paso Robles. I have been developing the route over a couple of years, and I am getting pretty happy with it. There will be some stuff new to me this year that I am excited about. I would love to have someone join me for the whole trip, or only a couple of days. 2 days out each day is Santa Clarita, so you can see it takes a while to get far.
  17. TTT I would post up a map, but google maps has lost a lot of its functionality lately. Trust me, this is really fun, roughly 50% dirt. The schedule is padded to deal with mishaps, which sometimes occur. I will be in the Bay Area for a day or two after WSB, and then returning. I am generally not in much of a hurry, just riding along roads and through scenery that most people never see. Join me for the whole trip or a couple of days on either end- Santa Clarita is 2 days out both ways.
  18. That was him. He put some time in getting used to riding. He needs to learn to use the brakes instead of just closing the throttle to slow down, then he can start facing some hills.
  19. I saw you guys out there, but I hadn't seen any announcement. I was out there with my son for his second day of riding. He took some soil samples... still wants to ride.
  20. Welcome I am heading up to Laguna Seca for WSB next month. 4 days up, 4 days back, probably 50% dirt. http://dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.php?/topic/19898-wsb-trip-13-23-july/ My MO for this is usually to ride all day, get to the hotel, get cleaned up and walk across the street to the steakhouse for dinner and a beer. If that kind of thing interests you. I would love to have someone to ride with- most of these guys are pathetic wage slaves (ducking).
  21. I am probably going to sign up in the next couple of days, if anyone wants to ride together. In theory, I know how to keep time. http://www.district37ama.org/forums/showthread.php?65676-UNITED-MC-NOT-SO-TUFF-E-NUFF-ENDURO-EXTRAVAGANZA
  22. I took a quick look at some of the maps- I had to chuckle at some of the language. The story is probably not appropriate for a public forum- but I can talk about it whenever someone sees me.
  23. It wasn't that perfect or anything. It was actually kind of dangerous, the dirt made you think you were a much better rider than you really are. Fortunately, Ty (REV5) and I survived the experience. There may have been some conversations that began with "This looked like a trail when we started..." Ty is a good guy to ride with. There would be pictures if someone would have brought a camera.
  24. I have said this before, Bob. There is always time for work. Yes, I am really brave.
