  1. I think Robert is planning on it, he just looked at the crowd he is going to be riding with and figures he will have plenty left to go riding in the afternoon after he has wore us all out. Message received, I should be there in the absence of a crisis.
  2. Is Jacumba 28 DEC still in the works? I would like to ride this week and this is a possibility. I am assuming a non plated bike is OK.
  3. I am a possible for this, if someone going from the Carlsbad region has trailer space for a 990. My enthusiasm for 2 hours of freeway in 40deg temps doesn't run too high.
  4. The contour wind noise issue can be mitigated quite a bit by getting a microphone sock (available from Radio Shack), and putting holes in it for the lens and mounting. These are straight out of the camera and onto YouTube: The bottom one was shot on a RAM mount like PbdBlue was mentioning. Pretty versatile in terms of options once that is available, but also probably available to any camera with a 1/4-20 threaded mount. I don't find the goggle mount to be too good for any riding on a non smooth surface. You can see how the camera shakes over bumps in this one, and this is not a rough road: http://contour.com/stories/elkhorn (I can't figure out how to embed from Contour's site) The first one above is the surface mount. The Contour guys were at the USGP last year, and said the goggle mount is for skiiers and snowboarders that don't want to wear a helmet. Although I think the form factor of the Contour is much better than the GoPro, I still lost a Contour at a Northern California enduro last year. Low hanging branches, manzanita, and beserk mode did not mix. It had been knocked off a couple of times and had been hanging by the leash. There is a breakable link in the leash for bad hits, and I evidently hit it bad enough to break it. All that said- the DriftHD looks pretty good.

    Adv bike?

I had it done by XPC Racing in Murrieta, the 1.5 week turnaround actually turned into something like a month. I rode up and talked to them (him), and they were supposed to do the seat on an exchange basis. Since it was delayed, he sent a guy down to hand deliver it. It was on the wrong seat base, though, so he ended up taking my seat and turned that in a week. The place is a side business, the main business is foam in it's various forms, so they theoretically know foam. He described the foam they use in the seating area as a 'slow recovery' foam, and I think it is maybe too slow. In a multi day ride, it feels a little too beat down after a couple of days. The cover has also developed bit of slack. I am pretty sure I can get these things resolved, I just haven't tried yet. Since my daughter wants to go for a ride tomorrow, maybe I will head up there. I thought the stock seat was way to soft, and too close to the pegs to do the seating-standing transition regularly. The modified seat is way better.

    Adv bike?

. I think the all up price was around $1200, and probably half that was parts. The cartridge tube and piston rod is different, and I think there is a different spacer in the shock. Among the parts I got back was the shock piston and what look to be fork base valves. So,.. conversion parts, fork springs, fork and shock service and revalving. It is worth mentioning that after getting the suspension done and the seat fixed so that it could be ridden like a real dirt bike, this thing is TALL, and I am not short. I have to stretch to flat foot on both sides, and that is with 36" jeans. I also think it is pretty good 2 up, but I have only ridden with my kids, and they probably aren't too picky.

    Adv bike?

For what my opinion is worth... I don't have anything recent to compare it to, but I find my '07 990 amazing. When I got it from the PO, it was stock, seat was too low, and suspension too soft, forks by a lot. You could ride it off road, like how a stock Jeep can be taken off road. I got the seat worked on and the suspension converted to S spec and revalved by Precision Concepts, and I would describe the transition (not that I have experience with either vehicle) as going from a stock 4wd F150 to a Trophy Truck. It will take hits, is compliant on little stuff, and is still an amazing street bike. The bike will go faster than I want to go. If you get one and fix it up for your buddy, you will probably have to get one for yourself.

    Tag-O-Rama

NEW TAG Hints: 1. It is about a 20 minute ride from the last tag. 2. It is about 1.7 miles from where this picture was taken, and is in the background. (No, I did not take this picture. I wish.) 3. To get here, you have a good chance of traveling a road that shares part of its name with the first movement of Carl Orff's best known work. I am not nearly as cultured as that clue may make me seem.

    Tag-O-Rama

TAG Jack's Pond Park, San Marcos Credit goes to my wife, who got tired of me whining about this for hours and looked at Ken's picture and told me it was Jack's Pond Park. Like EVERYBODY knows that.

    Tag-O-Rama

Looks like we are about 90 minutes late, but to minimize the disappointment of a little girl, y'all have to see them anyway.
  11. Heh, well, it would be nice if BS tickets in the US could be handled that cheaply and easily. Another great ride, I have been lucky with the events I have done this year. I am rather ashamed that this is my first time to Tecate, it was on my to-do list when I lived in NorCal and now I live just a couple of hours away. For those interested, the Rekluse is pretty much magical. It grants clutch skills that do not really exist. On a course where panic braking was a regular occurrence, it was nice to never stall. My average speed for the race worked out to 17mph, and I ended up riding the second lap way harder than I really wanted to.
  12. Just installed the clutch nyah nyah nyah. Yes, I know it is a bad idea, my pondering was rhetorical only. Unfortunately, if I waited for a good time, it would likely stay in the box forever. If I go, I will try to meet up with you. My wife's blood pressure will be greatly reduced if she thinks I am in a group. That is darn early in the morning, but.... Plus, after I got it installed, Rekluse talks about a break-in procedure. Doh. I have to figure out how to do that between now and Sat noon. I am way ahead of normal. I am not trying to do all this Friday night. Also- will be racing 40+, but not 40B.
  13. A miracle may occur and allow me to make it. It has been- (ahem) a while since I have been to Mexico. What do I need? Passport and what else? I have Rekluse clutch in the box that I am contemplating installing and running for the first time Saturday. I am not sure if that is a good idea or not.
  14. Leaving Friday 11 Nov, returning Monday 14 Nov. It is kind of a haul. Since I used to be in this club and laid this enduro out for 10 years, I get to ride it now. Provided they get some rain this week, it should be good. No rain means I probably don't go. I have space for another rider + bike, lemme know if interested.
  15. Got a call that my Recluse clutch came in- don't know if I have the time or the inclination to install it before leaving.
  16. Its a haul, no doubt. As mentioned, I have reasons for going beyond just going to a local enduro. Plus, it is a woods race, and I don't get enough of those these days. I don't really expect anyone else to sign up, ut if someone needed an excuse....
  17. Kinda late notice, although I suspect those inclined have already been planning,.. or not. Not really sure if I am going to make it, I have been so swamped that I haven't even washed my bike since the Rawhide last month, let alone let mousses freshen up etc. I am planning on it, but I may not be dependable. Ghostrider flier
  18. If you told me I never got into 3rd gear, I would believe it. First and second through the manzanita for 55 miles, gotta love it. The tests were long, I know one of them took me 27 minutes, and that may not have been the longest. I made a feeble attempt to find SDAR members, but I didn't get there until yesterday morning and was pretty beat by the end. Plus, I don't have faces to put to the names. I need to get out more. A great day, and one that got better once I figured out they had observation checks in the middle of the tests (doh).
  19. 16th OA That would also be 1st Sen Exp LWT. I am mainly yanking your chain because this is MY thread. When I saw Roesler there, I was thinking I could maybe beat him for the first time in my life, since he is getting old (not that I have ever been very close before). Maybe not. I don't care who you are, but getting 3rd OA against a lot of fast guys when you are over 50 is impressive. Roesler has been a known freak of nature for a long time, however.
  20. Y' coulda listed me too, you know. My results were helped by the tossing of the first test. As an aside, Larry Roesler still rides OK.
  21. Loved it, I could ride that every weekend. If I did, I probably wouldn't have leg muscles tying themselves into knots the day after, unlike today. Signing up yesterday morning, I tried to save a number for an ex-roommate so we could ride together. They didn't really have a way to manage that, so they just gave me a later number, 20A instead of 15A. 15 was the last row before us, so we had a several minute gap and I only had to pass a few guys and generally didn't have dust to deal with, with one exception.
  22. They have apparently been getting quite a bit of rain this week- should make for epic conditions. My wrist isn't great, but may be good enough to make me come out and try. I will be in a blue Ford diesel econoline van.
  23. I seem to have sprained my wrist last night- can't say I am feeling good about Sunday. I am not too pleased, I think this will be the best D37 event of the year, and it is only an hour away.
  24. Where might the usual spot be? It wouldn't hurt for me to see if I can still ride.
