EnduroCross this Saturday 9/15 in LA
eddie replied to Goofy Footer's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
As an aside... Many of you know Gary Kepple whose son, Noah, will be competing for a chance to race in the main event. -
What's up with the spam from a guest?

So it's not true... The beaver WILL lick itself.

See? EVERYONE loves beaver.

Public road that is not accessible to the public? I'll bet a trespassing fine that the trail runs on an easement. Why ride there? If we stop riding on public roads, the huggers of trees can say, "See? There is no reason to maintain the easement." "See? there's no reason to leave that road open." "See? there's no reason to...."

Here's the resource w/o having to surf ADV: NFS Alerts Looks like it's open, but you can always call the Trabuco Ranger District - (951) 736-1811

I'm dying to know where this particular gate is.

Well, I got banned from Facebook. ME! I created a new acct after a few days. Don't know why. After asking, I got an email from zuckerberg's minions stating that I was ineligible for FB membership. I lost all the pics I uploaded to FB and no where else. It's no big deal... Only 4 years worth of stuff. I lost some SDAR friends. New name "Effin Eddie." Seemed somehow appropriate. Anyway... Message me. is a vid that made me smile.

The mankini is a hit everywhere I go.

Eating Chick Fil A: Kinda girly. Watching Ellen: Man card pulled and buying tampons at 7-11 is inevitable. Smartass combination = Man card restored.

Occasionally, I get to ride Triumphs and break them in before they go to the press. It's a fun, non-paying gig, and always worth the trip to LA to pick up the ride. Today, I picked up a Triumph Thruxton fresh out of the box. At 865cc, Triumph claims 68 bhp with 51lbs of torque at a claimed wet weight of 505. It is a great looking bike and looked to be a lot of fun. It's got a retro cafe racer look with the solo seat and some funky end of the handlebar mirrors. With the foot pegs a little to the rear of the seat, the riding position is a little forward and the seat is about as uncomfortable as I have experienced on a street bike. Still, it's a bike and I get to wear out their tires. Picked up the bike in Placentia and headed out 91-15, thinking I'd loop 79 from Temecula to Santa Ysabel. First impression? Needs more GO. At freeway speed when rolling on the throttle on to pass, overtake, whatever... Leave yourself some room. Decided in Temecula that I'd rather hit some of the stuff south of the 76 instead of running on the 79. I did Rice Canyon, Couser Canyon, Lilac/West Lilac, then Camino Del Rey to 395 and Gopher Canyon to the 15. Down the road to Pomerado for a run up Highland Valley. These are some of my favorite roads and today was no exception. Did I mention how fun the Thruxton looks? Sadly, it doesn't have the heart to go with the look. I found the suspension and braking to be... Let's say archaic. Throttle delivery is smooth but weak. Triumph has come out with some fantastic rides over the last couple of years. I've got thousand of miles on some of them, including the 800 Tigers and the 675R. This one is a cute, retro looking, putter. It could have been a cute, retro looking, rocket. It's a fun motorbike, but no canyon carver, and not a fast ride.

I thought about Black Canyon today as Edward Bell led a group of 13 Adventure bikes on a local run. Repeat after me: NO! Eddie, No! It's NOT YOUR BIKE!

Sunday Ride July 15th from Ramona
eddie replied to KTMrad's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
The whole work thing has REALLY impacted my riding, so Sunday sounds good to me. I need to change the shoes on the DRZ, but I'm planning on being there. -
It was a GREAT ride. There were a hell of a lot of harleys exiting the freeway and at the HVR light. They were genuinely upset that we jumped to the front of the line. Speaking of harleys, I have to say that the XR is pretty badass. We had quite the spirited ride up Sunrise. Just what the doctor ordered. Thanks, Randy, for a great day.

Romaniacs!
eddie replied to robertaccio's topic in Off-Road Racing Events, Discussions, Rally Racing, Info, etc.
The Romaniacs are at it again! -
When using an evap vest in full vent mode the evaporative cooling effect dissipates quickly. Limit the airflow over the vest and it will stay cool longer. Of course, if you're riding fully vented in triple digit plus heat you're actually slowly cooking yourself. Keep that gear closed up and hydrate, hydrate, hydrate.

Almost a year going to Rocket Motorcycles
eddie replied to X-country-Rider's topic in Motorcycle Shops - Discussion
Interesting. I walked in to SDBMW once about 3 years ago and have been greeted by name every time since. I was a pain in the ass about choosing a bike, but was never pressured and always made to feel welcome. I was routinely invited through the service bay to see my bike and the other goodies. They support SDAR, Low Cal 250, and a host of other charities and events. Host you say? Yes, and supply free food and drink at these events. I have been to Rocket a time or two - once during the course of a Triumph NA gig - and was ignored until I spoke up, and was then treated as an intruder. Differing perspectives. It's like 2 blindfolded men being asked to describe an elephant's trunk. -
= old tag.... Off Farmers road, Julian. Will post new one tonight. D. I ride Farmers Road both ways pretty regularly and have never seen that sign. Where is it?

Dakar suspension looking for local work
eddie replied to NOMAD5326's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
John Pearson of SST, does both street and D/S suspension work. I've used him and know both street and dual sport riders who have been happy with his service. -
BUGS!!! I guided the Triumph 800 people over Pine Creek last June. The photographers were stopped in this spot, while I had the guys staging at the next rise. The bugs were relentless. Helmets stayed on and closed up the whole time. There's a largish dirt turnaround towards the top of the hill. We stopped there after the shoot and the bug situation was much easier to deal with.

I am SO not okay with that. This is just one more video - the rest would get me banned - proving the euros are generally pretty f'd up.

I know of a few online groups with members consider themselves ricky racer types- and can think of a least 2 that could have been involved in that idiocy. There's liable to be heat for awhile over this one. With the clearance issues and weight, The RT is, perhaps, not the best platform for that type of pursuit. The Police models are even heavier than the civilian models. Motorola, however, is perfect for this type of thing. I was wondering why they didn't get the BP involved in locating the asshat. I know the BP can get the CHP on the radio, so maybe the reverse is true. There aren't usually a lot of LEOs out hat way, but there seems to be a BP agent every few miles. Glad the officer walked away with relatively minor injuries. The chippies are probably going to be unhappy and I expect heavy motorcycle specific patrolling over the next few weeks.

Where to ride in North County?
eddie replied to CL300CAPT's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
There are plenty. Well, maybe not "plenty." Just sent you a PM.
