  1. Got rid of the two month old G650GS and got a F800GS(I 'needed' more power for that 100 mile daily commute). Love the new bike, but the seat is horrible. I've read hundreds of posts about seats on ADVRider, and some people were successful at having the stock seat tweaked, thereby saving a lot of money. Given that this is more of a 'local' forum, I thought somebody might know a good upholsterer in the area. I appreciate the help. Hope to get on another ride soon.....if I ever get a weekend free! That whole 'work' thing is really starting to interfere!!

    SEAT WORK IN SAN DIEGO

Wow! Great input everyone, I really appreciate it. Time to work the phone and see who can do a quick turnaround.....I am 'meeting' my wife in San Francisco the weekend of the 19th and I really want to take the bike...just planning the trip I am salivating! One of her brothers is having his 45th b-day party that weekend, so, not wanting to waste a (rare these days) free weekend......I made a deal.....all I have to do is 'stop by for a few hours.' Oh yeah! Gonna come to work Friday ready to roll, and head out ASAP...gonna be a blast! Thanks again. Oh, got the orange one. It was orange or white, so I asked my 7 year old daughter which one.....BTW, hopefully not breaking any board rules, but I gotta say SD BMW was really cool through the whole thing. I walked in just knowing I was going to get.....well, not get a good deal. Given the circumstances, I really felt like my salesman (Alan) did everything he could to ease the burden of my upside down situation. There is no comparison between the 650 and the 800.....I would not have believed it if someone tried to explain it to me. My Harley is really getting lonely.......

    SEAT WORK IN SAN DIEGO

I thought about it, and read a great thread from a guy that did it, but I figured I would see what it would cost to get a pro to do it and go from there. Besides, I can just see me screwing it up and trying to explain that one to the wife..... Thanks though!

    SEAT WORK IN SAN DIEGO

Thanks man, I do intend to do that, kinda why I am looking for a good upholsterer...someone willing to work with me and do what I want.

    Another adventurer from ramona

Wow! Ramona sure is being well represented! I am sure the owner of the KTM shop is happy! If any of you commute from town/Pt. Loma/anywhere near and want to take an 'interesting' ride home one day, let me know. My schedule (when in town) is VERY flexible.

    valentines day

Yeah, Had to kill my dog. He bit my daughter on the face last night (not permanent damage, not too serious), but. I had that dog for 8 years. Got him from the pound when my wife was pregnant with our daughter. Obviously I had no choice, but it sucks no matter how you look at it. Damn dog slept on her bed every night and sat/layed at the front door from when she left until she came home from school.......no idea why he lost his mind, but it was a no-brainer to me. Hurt my daughter, die. Still, it sucks. Pretty much killed our Valentine's Day! I am bummed...as is my wife and daughter. Pretty jacked up that a bro sent me a text, "Let's head to Ocotillo." and I had to tell him what I had going on.......talk about killing the mood for everyone!
  7. I don't plan to spend much time at work. In fact, I don't even plan to take off my riding gear much less put on my uniform. Some bs meeting at 8, and then I am out of there. Inlaws in town Thursday night.....needless to say, I am going riding all day Friday. If anyone is interested, I can meet anywhere.....I'll be leaving Point Loma by 9 at the latest.
  8. Unbelievable, but yesterday I went out to leave work and there was a damn oil puddle underneath my 2009 (1966 miles on it) BMW!! I about had a damn heart attack! So, right now my bike is at that shop and I am delayed departing work until I get word that I can pick up my bike. I have a loaner (logistics of drop off/pick up from Ramona are a pain otherwise), but the loaner is a R1200R.....probably would not be good to take that off-road. I am hoping it is just something loose..... As soon as the bike is fixed I am heading out.....no idea where. Read a good report about a dirt road on Palomar, but I am open to anything. If you are interested in heading out around noonish (shop's best estimate), shoot me an email (Mikegesualdo@live.com). It goes to my BlackBerry so I will monitor throughout the morning.

    Guy next to you

That is hilarious! I just flew back from the Middle East.....man I coulda had fun with that one!
  10. Truly a ride only for the brave! Unless of course, the 'other half' also rides.....
  11. Referred to this site by Crawdaddy - thanks! Grew up racing dirtbikes and riding street bikes. Out of it for years (work) and just got back into it. New to the dual sport thing, but totally hooked. I have a 2009 BMW G650GS and a 2010 HD RKC. Honestly, as much as I love the Harley, I have been looking at that thing lately and thinking.....man, I sure would like a KTM.....we'll see, I think my wife would kill me. Been in Ramona for 11 years (although gone most of it for work). Finally have a job that allows me some play time, and I am spending 99% of that time on the BMW exploring the awesome places to ride right in my backyard. I am always up for a ride, so if you are in or near Ramona and looking to ride, let me know. Also, I commute to the tip of Pt. Loma (Sub base) every day and like to take long meandering trips home. If anyone ever wants to meet somewhere and do one, let me know. Bottom line, one way or another I ride every day. Appreciate the site, really cool to have a local site. Mike

    New guy from Ramona

Will do. Actually, I was just kicking around a quick ride before the game.....hhhmmmm...workout or go ride......
  13. Maybe I am a little slow tonight, but I don't have 'access' to the Members Only part, so......where is the Paypal thing or a mailing address for a check? Makes no difference to me and you expressed a preference for check. Please enlighten those of us who would appear to laugh last. Thanks, Mike

    Duffyland Track day

Super cool, both that you have your own track, and that you have invited others to use it......just another reminder that I've got to get a dirtbike!

    New guy from Ramona

Also a Ramonan here. I will be riding the cedar creek/boulder oaks area friday if interested. When? I have to 'work' but I can probably bail early.....or just blow it off.
  17. Much thanks to Paul and Ken for putting this together and leading the way! I had a blast! Ordered an engine guard yesterday, and am shopping for some decent off-road tires (I'll just swap out the night before in the future). Great to meet everyone. hobiee, I rode out from Ramona, it only took about an hour to get to the meeting spot. I peeled off in Campo and (a last minute change on my part), came back through Mt. Laguna (pretty cool with all the snow), through Julian, and into Ramona. Moutains, water crossings, sand, mud, rocks, and snow all in one day.....damn I love SD!

    New guy from Ramona

Hey Zarah, We are in the Estates. I think my wife would kill me if I did pretty much anything right now. I bought two new bikes within a 20 day period, so I pretty much figure I have used up that line of credit with the wife for a while. It just kills me, as much as I love the Harley, being able to hit any dirt road I want to is so much fun! I've been more places in/between Ramona and Julian in the past month than I have the whole time we have lived here. We'll see, if I wait it out a year or two I can probably upgrade the BMW and keep the RKC. A buddy (who also lives in Ramona, one of the 5 friends we have 'imported' since moving here) has the 1200 version of my bike and I love that thing. Tough problems huh! Oh, wife does not ride. Hell, she won't even ride with me.....well, I did spend a week in a coma from a motorcycle accident back in '94......that might have something to do with it. Mike
  19. This may Not be the ride to test those tires. The photos you don't see show a 30ft drop with zero runout at the bottom. Fish Creek is miles of deep sand. A bit of practice with DOT knobbies is in order before you tackle this one. Get to it and we will be glad to see you on the trail. We'd enjoy welcoming you on the Otay ride! We're not tire snobs bagstr, I really appreciate the straightforward info. I couldn't call my skill level, but I do know that I am not fond of soft sand. One of my buddies with a V-Strom just got TK....somethings. They are supposed to be the super-whamadine, all-purpose, 'perfect tire'....at least according to him and another friend. Don't see replacing the tires before these wear down a bit, but we'll see - this off-road stuff is addicting! Fakename, the jury is still out on the kid (wife is a nurse so she is nuking this out). I'm going to get up early and be ready to roll from Ramona to Otay, so as long as wife thinks kid is ok to hang at friend's house, I will meet you guys at Otay at 0930. If it does not work out, I might at least head to Julian and out to the starting point to meet some of you, but I have to be home for my wife to leave at noon. Again, I really appreciate all of it.
  20. Interested in this ride as long as my daughter is over her sore throat (wife has some bs to do with the Girl Scouts so I might get bagged hanging with sick daughter). Assuming I am free (I will be pumping the kid full of Vitamin C tonight!), would a BMW G650GS make this ride? I notice most of the pics of bikes on the site show offroad tires, the tires on my bike are, I believe, 80/20....they are the stock ones. I've done lots of trails around Ramona and Julian, but I don't really know how hardcore the trails in this ride are. Also, for some reason, the pics in the ride report are not showing, I just get a white square with a red 'X' in the middle. Appreciate the info.
