    Some Signals Never Turn Green

This is what I do as well. I've talked to our city's street traffic like person numerous times. He said just leave a message with and name the intersection, direction of travel, and lane you were in when the light did not trigger and he'll adjust the sensitivity, or send a crew out to correct the light. A couple of years ago I had to run every light around my office, but now both myself and the other riders trigger the lights on our bikes. He also mentioned that the number one people that notify him of malfunctioning lights are motorcycle officers.
  2. All right, couple of questions on both of these mods: Cam with auto decomp - Is it as simple as remove old cam set in new cam reassemble and go? I'd love to do this to my roommates WR400. The Rekluse - I understand how it works once in gear, but what about shifting gears? Just let off the throttle to disengage the clutch, shift, and twist again?

    "Shop Class As Soulcraft"

Now I'm curious and want to read this book; might have to stop by the library on the way from work. Glad to see you reading this. I have been an academic all my adult life but I came from a working class background and have always found plenty of satisfaction from working with my hands. I am not alone. I know many "white collar" professionals who have their creative urges satisfied by craftsmanship. Most of my colleagues do hobbies such as woodworking, machines etc.. Even though I agree with the author's thesis I have not seen the justification for the stereotypes about "white collar" vs "blue collar". Most of the great thinkers were firmly grounded in practical skills. Socrates was a stonemason. Plato got his nickname because he was a superb wrestler and athlete well into old age. Descartes was a cannoneer in Maximillians army. Spinoza was a lense grinder and optician. Even Plato had a great aesthetic appreciation for craftsmanship. The Greeks had a name for it "Arete" or the knowledge and apppreciation a skilled craftsman had in order to perform a task well rather poorly. It was really pursuing excellence for excellence sake. This could be in the simplest of activities such as tightening a bolt-neither too tight and nor too loose but just right. But they applied the idea to the whole art of living. The great issue for most of the great philosophers was the art (skill, craft) of living well rather than poorly. Even though there is some justification for the dichotomy between the "white collar" and the "blue collar" craftsman I personally find the distinction a distortion and an oversimplification of my world.

    What Color Boots?

Guess it's time to get the Krylon flat black out.

    What Color Boots?

I have white A*'s, so I'd recommend black. Recommendation based solely on the fact that I'm slow and crash a lot...really I blame this on the white boots.

    nice!

I've been watching those thunderheads sitting to the east wondering if I'm going to be riding home in the rain; it'll actually feel great. Looks like that system that hit Hobiee is going to continue a northward pattern and may even swing east more. It got Julian and Wynola pretty good as well. There have been some huge systems pummeling Pine Valley the last couple of days too. Love the rain, can do without the lightning though, we're still way too dry to deal with ground strikes.

    10 news this morning

Here's an interesting post on this from another forum that I frequent. If anyone would like the link just ask, I'm not sure the rules on cross linking to other boards?
  9. Maybe I'll drop by, but I'll be looking and not buying. Something about a lack of cash right now. Clint, do you ride the XR to work? I always see a honda dual sport in the parking lot, I'm figuring you're the brave one riding a red bike to a blue and orange work?

The Haul Road in Alaska - Ice Road Truckers

I'd love to make the ride up the Dalton some time in my life. Thanks for sharing the link to your ride report, must have some amazing memories from up there. I can't believe the size of the moose! The largest wildlife that I've ever seen in the actual wilderness was a large black bear. Oh yeah, Lisa from the show rocks!

    Motorcycle Accident

RIP. I work up the street from Harmony Grove and hate hearing the ambulances because more often than not it's a rider down. Best wishes to the family that he left behind.
  12. Sorry to hear about Annie; it's always tough to lose a best friend.

Mmmmm, California Burrito Bummer about the new express drive through.
  14. Nice loop! You hit some of my favorite places including Bishop, Mono, June Lakes, Big Sur and Morro Bay. Sheesh, now I want to make the same ride.

    FRESH FISH

Wow, I used to work a stones throw away off of W. Morena Blvd. Too bad I'm not there anymore otherwise I'd take you up on any great deal like this. Speaking of, thank you very much for extending these buys to the SDAR members.

    XR600r Build

Thanks for the info. I actually just went the opposite direction where I wired my headlight directly to one of the stators windings (AC), and then ran the second winding into a DC circuit with battery to power the dual sport kit. I like the extra output of the HID, so might look to running the entire thing DC. Again, great job on the 600, love the white plastics and grey seat. Just a clean good looking and now, great running bike. Its basically this: http://www.dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.p...ost&p=46242 However, there is a little more to it than just replacing a bulb and installing a ballast. Each brand of bike is different (dah)...for example: My WR I was able to float the ground on my stator and install a Baja Designs reg/rec so I could run the light off the battery. (HID requires DC power not AC) For the Honda above I had to rewind the stator, install a battery, install a reg/rec AND wire the whole thing.

    XR600r Build

Good job on getting the bike together and making it into one nice looking 600! Any more info on the home brewed HID?

    SDAR For PWC owners

Yep, pwctoday is probably the best one for all types of skis and the most active I've found. I use it whenever one of my two 750's decided to take a crap. Actually ordered a few carb rebuild kits the other day to get them back up and running. Will probably sell them though.

    Happy B-Day Zenosan!

Happy Birthday Don! Hope you have a great day.
  21. Stopped at Mother's to regroup and let Schwinn see if there was anything we could do about the gate issue: A little further up we toured the back road of the Palomar Observatory and then met up at the fire station to see if there was anything else that could be done about the gates. Unfortunately there was too much red tape, but big thank you to Schwinn for doing everything possible to get them open. Maybe one day we'll get the land owner himself to open it. About this time shade was becoming more and more valuable: Finally some lunch and then a few of us split and took the dirt home: I need to figure out a lanyard/carry option for the camera so I can take pictures and ride at the same time. I took a couple, but didn't want to drop the camera. Had a lot of fun and look forward to more adventures.
  22. Here are some of the pictures. The rest can be found: http://s94.photobucket.com/albums/l81/cmay...8-09/?start=all Picking up the northern riders at the corner of Cole Grade and Valley Center Road: Coming up Nate Harrison: And at a rest stop on Nate Harrison: A view from the top: . More to come...
  23. I'm working on uploading pictures, but wanted to thank everyone for a great ride. It's a bummer that the red tape kept us away from some more dirt, but it was fun to get out there and meet a bunch of new people. Don, thanks for leading! Sorry I let the guys make a wrong turn on Black Mountain after lunch , but it all worked out! Ken, thanks for riding sweep and eating a bunch of dust on Nate Harrison. It was great to meet a lot of the local club members and I look forward to more rides.
  24. Can't find it here, but I remember it from ADV: http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=173012 Or this one that links to it: http://www.dualsport-sd.com/forums/index.p...;hl=perspective
