Very nice meeting you on the street ride along with the others.......looking forward to many other rides and meeting more from this site......high caliber bunch of guys (and girls) from what I have met so far!

    Mike

  2. Thanks!

Very glad to have met the few from this site that I have met......looking forward to meeting and riding with more of you.

Anytime Chris! Looking forward to next year and would like to do it again.....as well as anywhere else! I think renting that house was a good deal for all of us to stay in.....glad you could stayed with us!

  3. Saw this thread while surfing and thought it was very cool!......so i will play.

I run a branch for United Rentals in Lakeside. We specialize in only Aerial equipment such as Booms, Scissorlifts and forklifts including reach forks. I do a lot of work with Extreme Makeover, San Diego Chargers, San Diego Zoo, Shipyard Business and lots of general construction.

Even though I work for a huge corporation with over 600 different types of equipment and a original equipment price over $4.1 billion......it is nice to have all that to back me up to take care of customers......but, it is more rewarding to have all my employees go to market with the "mom and pop shop" care and concern. I don't want our customers or potential customers to feel as though we are the 800lb. gorilla.

Anyways, I could probably go on and on about this.......I am currently searching for the right person for an outside sales position. Any ideas let me know!

Now on to the fun stuff.......I have been riding moto since the third grade or so. I started off with a pedal moped, to a YZ80, Tri moto 125, my long lost Hodaka Wombat 125, 82' 250r, 85' 250r, XL500, CR500, Built my own buggies for use in Glamis and started a part time after work business with a buddy of mine building dune buggies. I fabricated the cars and he built the motors and transmissions. Got tired of working on everybody else's toys and didn't get to play with mine. So we split up......I had fun with my toy I built and he kept building engines.

Moved on from buggies to street bikes and having tinker tantrums in the garage on other projects. 54' CJ3b, 57' CJ5 Willy's, and a 64' FJ40 Cruiser. While riding and storing in the garage XR600, Roadstar Warrior, FJR, FZ1, Raptor 700 and a R1 Raven.

I then realized that I had too many toys and Yamaha owed me a few t shirts with all the Yamaha inventory in my garage! I also figured out that I had too many kids (now it is hers, mine, and ours) and my shop/garage in Ramona is bigger than my house.....time to move! Sold most of the toys and the house to get a bigger house (with a smaller garage :( ) here in Lakeside. (sure was a lot cheaper to live in Ramona)

Now down to my FZ1 and XR650R. I have been contemplating the idea of selling my beloved FZ1 if I can get a spare set of wheels etc so that I can SM my XR as well as dualsport........then purchase a RT or some bagger for 2up riding. We could use a break from kids and stressful day to day work. The family and I spend the desert season in Ocotillo Wells on friends property and park our motorhome with rolling garage and toys there all season ling. Great time for the kids and keeps the T.V. off!

  4. Don't mean to take away any attention from the awesome plastic crates in this thread...........But, if anybody is interested.......and doesn't tie me down to a specific time and date. I could build you a stand like mine.

I used some left over scrap steel, welded together and then screwed on a piece of particle board. Works great!

You will have to come up with your own particle board or plywood though...

  5. I also have directions but they are for a Honda XR 650R

Is there anyway you could email me the directions for the XR650R? I bought my bike with the BD kit already installed and would like to find a spot that I could install a power port to power my GPS. I understand I may need another item to change power from A/C to D/C......not sure if I already have that part.

  6. FYI......was in Vey's this past week and asked about their move.

They are going to be open 7 days at both locations and will be done moving in within 2 weeks. The Lakeside location will be closing and currently they are having a moving sale. Great prices on Beta (who won the baja?) as well as Aprilia bikes. I guess that parts and upgrades are twice as much as your standard bikes. Such as a 3 gallon fuel tank is about $300.

  7. I forgot to add that the elecric brakes come standard on the trailer and I do use a brake controller as well.

Only downfall in using a 1/2 ton truck is that the brakes are smaller than a 3/4 ton truck. So you are using more of your trailer brakes than anticipated. But with Dodge having the OD-Tow/Haul-OD Off swith....it helps

Sorry about the Hi-Jack......Iwill stop now

  8. I've got an 08' 1500 Big Horn Edition 4x4 with the Hemi........as far as trailer.....the Hemi pulls no problem, rear suspension is horrible so I added airbags and a weight distribution hitch.

Trailer is not a toybox with a rolling toilet, bed, etc. it is a Haulmark trailer....but I call it a rolling garage, workbench, compressor, toolbox, etc. and of course toys.

Your truck will have no problem towing a heavy trailer. May just need to distribute weight and help the suspension with airbags. There is also that other annoying little issue known as stopping. When I drove back from Big Bear towing a 5x10 little trailer with 3 bikes in it......I thought "good thing I didn't bring my big trailer, this downhill sucks!"

Then I realized that I must have forgot to push the Tow/Haul button. Makes a big difference when towing down hill.....helps slow you down.

  9. FYI......Drove by the old SD Sportcycles today and saw new signage out front.......

    Moto Maxx by Sportcycle Dave

    Target open date July 21st.

For those of you who have shopped at Sportcycles for a number of years......you may remember the previous owner Dave. Not sure if he is the one who is "Sportcycle Dave"

  10. Thanks for the help.......Called Garmin yesterday and explained the damage report of my GPS. They told me that it could not be repaired and I could send it in with $110 + tax for a refurbished unit. Instantly I thought that I may need to spend more money and replace with another model instead of buying a refurbished unit of the same model. After all.....$110 is $110!

But I knew that I really like my 60CSX and could not think of another unit I would want that was not going to break the bank. So I broke out my wheel and deal card. I got them to give me a refurbished unit for $55 + tax. After they receive my broken unit it will take ten days for me to receive the refurb unit.

I did also tell him that I cannot find my CD for Garmin topo maps and would like them to load the program in my new (refurb) unit. He said that they will not load programs in units but MAY give me a unlock code to download. I am not very optimistic that will happen. :clapping:

$55 is so far, the best I've heard yet!!

... how in the heck did ya do that?! (you can PM me if you care to share silently)

I had to upload Mapsource (trip and waypoint manager) files to a 4shared account, as I lost my CD and was away from home. It's painstaking to download back off the 4shared site, but it's a lifesaver when your out and about... with no way to upload/download off the GPS (other than using 3rd party apps).

.... if you ever need to download the CD version, I can help. It just takes a PM.

I had to do a lot of arguing with the guy on the phone and told him that I was prepared to buy from another manufacturer instead of pay $110.....I offered him $50 and he said he would talk to his supervisor. When he came back on the phone he said his supervisor would do it for $55.

I guess that me using the "economy" in my speech worked

  11. I have the Baja Designs wiring kit for my lights etc. that was installed on the bike when I bought it.......where are you pulling power from for the hardwire kit used on your GPS?

are you splicing into power for the headlight or?

  12. (could it be the flat area on the middle of the rear tire?)

Once you roll around the twisties such as Palomar.......you should have that flat spot out of the tires.

More fun to ride on the sidewalls than the center of the tire! ;)
