  1. It's a LONG race....no matter what "brand" bike you are riding.

Each day there are many kilometers that need to be ridden on the road that are not timed. Make it to the timed section and ride balls out.

Much more of an endurance race. I don't know about any of you, but I get much more tired when I have to ride a long length of highway before finally getting off road for a good time.

BTW...the "spoiler alerts" are on the Dakar website. There is a live feed...today's (stage 3) live feed http://gaps.dakar.com/2014/dakar/stage-03/aso/ukie.php

  2. I used to run the same (50/50)......bike runs much cooler and much better "shelf life"

Just a bit expensive now for me.

You can buy 5g barrels at SoCo in el Cajon for a decent price. Much better to pony up for the 55g drum.

  3. Has anybody had problems with email notifications? I no longer receive email notifications when there is a response to a thread I am subscribed or PM's.

I have gone into my settings and nothing looks out of wack...also have tried to send myself a copy of a pm sent via email.

    Still no luck!

Found this pic online. I'm a little sad Broken Shaft Gulch was cleared out but am kind of happy to have an easy dirt shortcut from Vallecito Wash to Fish Creek again.

Haven't been out that way yet this season....so, Broken Shaft Gulch and Diablo are now fairly easy? I have some peeps coming to town next weekend that will be bringing their Jeep. If it is an easy ride in a Jeep then we may take that way to the Mud Caves.

  5. .....while there are great times at ALL the Dashes I am afraid to say that we might not be so lucky to have everything come together perfectly like the 2011 Desert Dash. The weather threw everything at us and it was great.

AGREED! 2011 was the most fun Dash and way up on the list as one of the all time best desert rides because of conditions.

I think that year was the first and last Dash for poor Tim at AAKTM....next time you are in there make sure you raz him about all the pictures of his "loaned" bike on the ground.
