It's a LONG race....no matter what "brand" bike you are riding.
Each day there are many kilometers that need to be ridden on the road that are not timed. Make it to the timed section and ride balls out.
Much more of an endurance race. I don't know about any of you, but I get much more tired when I have to ride a long length of highway before finally getting off road for a good time.
BTW...the "spoiler alerts" are on the Dakar website. There is a live feed...today's (stage 3) live feed http://gaps.dakar.com/2014/dakar/stage-03/aso/ukie.php

got any tracks from that day? I may be spending some time out there with some buddies in the near future and would like to play around while out there.
-
I used to run the same (50/50)......bike runs much cooler and much better "shelf life"
Just a bit expensive now for me.
You can buy 5g barrels at SoCo in el Cajon for a decent price. Much better to pony up for the 55g drum.

This is the lack of sportmanship I was referring to.....He was helped out of the mud then just took off. Return the favor!
Absolutely correct Crawdaddy! Really going to miss watching Caselli run this year.
-
Don't count this guy out.
Very true....he is an animal on a bike. Was a big fan until 2 years ago and I saw his lack of sportmanship
Interested to see how he does on the Yamaha.

It will be real interesting to see how the new Honda Rally bike will stack up against the KTM's this year.
If only I had the six numbers....nothing but a dream for now.

Has anybody had problems with email notifications? I no longer receive email notifications when there is a response to a thread I am subscribed or PM's.
I have gone into my settings and nothing looks out of wack...also have tried to send myself a copy of a pm sent via email.
Still no luck!

Planning on making it!

FYI...The first stage of the 2014 Dakar Rally will start January 5th. There will be one day of rest on the 11th and finish on January 18th.
Looks as though NBC Sports will be airing the highlights starting January 6th. If you have AT&T...the chanell is 1640 for HD. Set your DVR's!
Going to be AWESOME! Only bummer is the loss of Casselli......

Found this pic online. I'm a little sad Broken Shaft Gulch was cleared out but am kind of happy to have an easy dirt shortcut from Vallecito Wash to Fish Creek again.
Haven't been out that way yet this season....so, Broken Shaft Gulch and Diablo are now fairly easy? I have some peeps coming to town next weekend that will be bringing their Jeep. If it is an easy ride in a Jeep then we may take that way to the Mud Caves.
-
Be out at our spot Dec 27-Jan 1 in OW....right down the road from Fish Creek.
-
HA!....that is hilarious!
Hell ya I will take one too!
-
Sooo do you change tires when you get there? Would really suck to wear out your rear tire before you even get to where you are riding.
-
Congrats! Let the farkling begin!

.....while there are great times at ALL the Dashes I am afraid to say that we might not be so lucky to have everything come together perfectly like the 2011 Desert Dash. The weather threw everything at us and it was great.
AGREED! 2011 was the most fun Dash and way up on the list as one of the all time best desert rides because of conditions.
I think that year was the first and last Dash for poor Tim at AAKTM....next time you are in there make sure you raz him about all the pictures of his "loaned" bike on the ground.

must have really wiped out that boot!
-
work calls........i'm out

Knowing what I know I have planned two full days of riding that isn't "that bad". :heh:/>
Camp is Greenhorn Mt. Park. A Kern County campground with showers and toilets.
hmmmm....sounds like fun! checking schedule and watching thread

I am actively searching for a local Class A driver that can haul heavy equipment. Full time job with benefits!
Must be flexible in hours (meaning start times)mainly a Monday - Friday job with some Saturdays and yes overtime.
MUST be reliable....no flakes scared of hard work.
Base is in Chula Vista....travels will be in San Diego County with some runs to Anaheim and/or San Bernadino.
Send me a PM if interested.......

Missed this once again!
Still very irritating that I no longer get emails from SDAR. No thread responses or new threads I am subscribed to
