  2. Been a crazy fall, lots of work, lots of travel...had a few good riding weekends in, but Happy to be heading out to the desert for a post Christmas trip to try out my newly lowered bike... Friday Dec. 26 READY TO ROLL at 10 am (arrive 9-930) Meet on road in front of Tamarisk Grove Campground, just north of hwy 78 on highway s3..... Probably head up grapevine and culp, and do a loop in North ABDSP. maybe lunch in Salton City. Make our way back, avoiding the traffic in ocotillo wells as much as possible... Return and camp at Tamarisk Grove... We are taking advantage of this: they actually have primitive cabins with wood deck bunks there, no elec, no heat, but easier than towing for 1 night..... the campground has water and shower, porta potties. $60/night, can accommodate 4 people.... Saturday Dec 27: probably take a morning ride, perhaps up Rodriquez canyon, blair valley loop? head home early afternoon.... Shoot me a message if you plan to join us, so we can expect you.... And Merry Christmas to all my SDAR buddies....deb

North Rim / Arizona Strip in Winter?

Tim, I was tentatively planning a trip there even in mid October, and told weather could be "iffy". most roads down there are impassable when any precipitation gets on them. I have a friend and local rider in st. George, she knows the area very well, if you'd like to talk with her....call me, I'll give you her number.....deb
  6. My 4th annual death valley daze trip with the klr gang...Last week I enjoyed an extended 5 day weekend, always a great time, lots of laughs, amazing food prepared by none other than our own bluefin2na, who sets up a 3 sided gourmet style kitchen and cooks up "far above the standard camping fare"..........and death valley has a wide variety of riding destinations....the weather was amazing and warm this year.... Big thanks to tommy, ian, jonathan, dr. J, ed, steve, jesse, brandy, lynn, jim, and jim and the others who joined us (and we missed carl and virginia this year). Here's some pics...
  7. You guys should check in with johnnybags as i think he and kevin will b at the mountain house ? - also jason has all my tracks including pioneertown-im playing in band at church this week but have fun
  8. I'd really like to make this, as I was out of town for his service at Foothills. (even if it is just for the day....maybe camp?)...

Marine Retires - Thank You Jason

It was a great fun day for those of us who attended. So sorry that tracy and I missed the SDAR pic... . but I needed to rush back to the party site to help tracy get the tacos going....I hope everyone enjoyed the party....we were honored to be part of it....Thanks and Yes, Let's ride... ps: Jason it humble and may not mention it, but he got a very prestigious award, that few ever earn....(even base commanders types I heard) ....pretty awesome... Apparently he excels at his work duties, just like he does riding... I'll mess the name up, so he can post it...but a Meritory service award (or something like that)....CONGRATULATIONS on that Jason.. Few more pics

Newb Radio Purchase: BaoFeng vs Rugged Radios?

I have the version 2 bao feng, worked fine on the few trips taken this summer.....pretty sturdy design, easy to program frequency....you still need to purchase the push to talk and head set from rugged, that's the expensive part.... I'm happy so far but still new to the radio thing...

    After 45 years of rideing!

Hey Ken, I think I read in here that you said you only broke 1 of the bones in your ankle?...but on saturday you told us you broke both, plus the cracks above your knee? you said you had 3 breaks.... that was immediately after diagnosis....maybe it was the pain meds you were on saturday? Here's some pics....Big bear was amazingly beautiful, nice weather, and Johnnybags was the wesome host he always is....we were all going to camp, but he graciously put us all up and cooked for us even...Thanks John...great time as always... Thanks to the group for a great weekend: johnnybags, bostonmangler, pyro, capncham, kugs, and a visit from jhodnett.... THE GUILTY TREE KEN WAITING FOR S.A.R. under our makeshift shade canopy.... SEARCH AND RESCUE TEAM....THEY WERE AWESOME... and Ken got to break in their brand new side by side rescue vehicle...not yet equipped with a stretcher...but he got a comfortable seat in the back, luckily only about a mile to the waiting ambulance... It's always a drag when someone gets hurt...Ken: Heal up quickly, I'm sure you will because you're in better shape than most people half your age......As for the rest of the weekend....between rescue and hospital situations....we did get some great mountain riding in..... Big bear never disappoints... And for after riding refreshments, Make sure you visit the Big Bear Brewing Company.....

    After 45 years of rideing!

I happened to be the first to find ken on the side of the trail....scary to not see him moving...but I guess the wind was knocked out of him too, so once he responded, I tried to help him get comfortable, he knew something was not right with his foot....we were very fortunate the he search and rescue folks were about 8 miles away, but all in all it still took almost 2 hours to get him down the hill. and it was only about a mile from where they could drive the ambulance to.... I imagine when these things happen WAY out on the trail, the injured party could be many hours out there....Just reminds us all to be prepared, and have some knowledge of first aid.....at least basic......we knew to leave the boot on, best splint you could want....even the EMT's said that also.... ON the break, Yes, both bones, and get this, when jonathan and I brought dinner to ken last night (after he finally got home)....we walk in and he has NO CAST...THAT was freaky!!!....but apparently when they install a big steal rod between the broken bones, they DON'T put a cast....wild.....still amazes me... I've got tons of pics of the event and rescue...not on photobucket yet...will do this weekend.... Glad we have a community of riders who stick together....I know the times I've been hurt....all my riding buddies were amazingly helpful and selfless... We are so blessed to have each other out there.... Heal up ken, and please let us know if you need anything....
  14. After the flying monkey adventure rally, 5 or us headed off the Grid to spend a few days in the Amazing Arizona Strip....If you've never been there, you should go.....comprised of the portion of Arizona that lies NORTH of the Grand Canyon and SOUTH of Utah, containing almost 7900 square miles....largely BLM land with portions in Grand Canyon National Park and national forest.....and some large cattle ranches....including the popular Bar 10 Ranch.... Thanks to Ian and maggie who drove their truck out, jason, chris and I got to travel light. days were low 90's, warm but not unmanageable... we camped at toroweep for 2 nights....being at an elevation of over 5000 feet, with cliffs measuring about 3000 of vertical drop to the colorado river below....it's spectacular.... On the first day we rode over Mt. Logan to the Bar 10, where we spent a cool afternoon on the shady grassy lawn.....and enjoyed the fresh beef brisket dinner, before heading back.....the breezy shade on the cool grass felt especially awesome after we worked pretty hard to get down there...... I must say, I'll likely never choose the route down "Slide Mountain" into Hell Hole canyon again....rocks are ok in small doses, but that trail is some 6 miles of chunky rocky switchbacks and hairpin turns, steep at times, more breaking of the spirit than the body, as with each turn, when you think "it MUST be almost over"....... the rocks continue on and on and on and on.....maybe it was the warm june weather....but it was draining... I trusted the advice I got that this route had "one short portion of rocks"...but I think both of my sources were referring to the "RIGHT" turn at the top of Mt. Logan back to the road....and not the "LEFT" turn, down Crawdaddys....rocky horror picture show".....lol We all had an epic trip......Planning a return to explore points EAST of toroweep in October.......if anyone is interested..... Here's pics... We took a side trip over to Hurricane Cliffs, where Jason went and had some fun: The trip south: Jasons Bonzai tree came across these:
  15. Kugs has a good idea-id also be totally up for driving a truck some of the time- I actually have had alot of fun driving support for various events
  16. Just saw this....I love Prescott....that area is high on my list of Where to end up when I retire....I rode a few days with local riders a few years ago...Lots to ride. I'd like to ride from there to the south rim...mostly dirt is possible I hear..

  20. lol...I kid you not....this is an issue for some.... (though the wives need never worry.)... #1 dating rule for me?....I totally respect marriage, and just won't go there.....
  21. Are you saying you don't trust me? I have some new stuff for the path between Bar 10 and Toroweap.....nothing difficult just different than the std easy way (as long as the roads are dry). Looks like another great trip.....I can't wait to get back out to some fun single track by Primm/Blue Diamond and back to Bar 10, etc. in a couple months with the CORE crew.....we have about ~20 folks on board so far......room for more: http://crawdadoffroadevents.com/bar-10-2014 There's really nothing open to explore immediately east of Toroweap on bikes.......I've tried more than once.......ran into a lot of locked gates.......you need to head up to Fredonia then drop back in towards the north rim......some reference tracks/waypoints in the north rim area are located here: http://advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=514339 haha...Not you this time......Not that I trust your "wrinkles"..... but, this time the advice wasn't from you.....two others told me about the "short rock section"....as I said, I'm quite sure they took the roads over to the sawmill area......not even you would've called 6 miles of rocky drop "short".....lol on the "east" , there are two points on the rim, I'm told you can visit,..I saw her pics also with trucks out there, so there is a way......I'll get more info...I saw pics of trucks out there, so there is a way.... nice to have more locals along....I wouldn't loved to coordinate and combine this with Core Bar 10, but she MUST go OCT. 16th -20th, when she doesn't have her kids.... Chris, you should join us....
  22. LAST but Not LEAST.....THE RIM TIL OCTOBER!!!!
