2001 YZ125 project local trails fun
haywood replied to robertaccio's topic in A Forum for GENERAL PHOTOS & Videos
Looks fun. Where is that? -
Is it legal to ride green sticker dirt bikes in the desert just north and west of the wind mill farms in Ocotillo. Specifically, up around Dos Cabezas road, the railroad tracks, the water tower? That area and maybe the east side of the highway. Thank you!

I hear ya. My 'crew' and I are all mature gentlemen (old farts) who know how to stay on roads and trails and respect our surroundings. I know not everybody acts the same way.
-
That's what I thought. Bummer. CA is not the same state I moved to 31 years ago. Yeah, I have a plated dual sport bike, but the old YZ is just so much fun.

Thanks. I was out there over the holidays cruising through the area in a four wheel drive. I remember seeing a sign along the tracks, not too far from the water tower. I did not get a picture and I can't remember what it said.

Maintenance for Yamaha Super Tenere & Baja Info
haywood replied to TrophyHunter's topic in Motorcycle Shops - Discussion
I also ride a Tenere. Just got it a few months ago. I talked to a mech at National City Motorcycles on the phone and he said that several of his customers have one and they are familiar with the bike. It's true what arjayes said, they are very low maintenance. The first valve check is not until 26,600 miles! -
Otay Truck Trail- A cautionary tale
haywood replied to Mikey777's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I saw all that too about a week ago. There was a big pile of the metal poles not too far up from the bottom. Several of them looked like they were already welded up to be gates. Hopefully they don't make it a locked gate situation like it is on the other side by the power plant. I have seen a lot of four wheelers grinding up those side trails. Let's hope that does not get the entire mountain closed for all of us. (Nice SE Bp) -
I just picked it up yesterday. 2016. I got out on 94 today after work to get in some break in miles. I like it a lot. It is very light on its feet for being 500+ pounds.

Thanks! I don't plan of adding too many farkles, but you know how that goes.

Hmmm. Interesting. Is this an all new engine for them? OK. I just read the article. Is anyone else disappointed it is not a V-twin?

Mimi on the trail!
haywood replied to Wierdrider's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Locked up solid today. :-( The one on the left fork I have not seen before, but it has been some time since I have been down that road. We just came back up over Otay. Roasty was running short on time and it was getting hot out there. . -

Thanks for the report. Roasty and I tried to make it out to Barret today. We started at Pio Pico, up and over Otay mountain, then down toward Marron Valley road, going right where you come to the T intersection, instead of left which takes you past the rod and gun club out to 94. So, at the fork in the road we went to the left. About half way down to the valley we hit a locked gate. We turned around and went back and took the right fork. Again, half way down, locked gate. WTF? Needless to say we didn't make it to Barret. Sorry for the hijack. -
Otay Mtn Exploring - 7/8 Friday Morning - All Welcomed
haywood replied to Roasty's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I am familiar with the area. If it is going to be up and over Otay mountain and then over the mountain on the truck trail that drops you onto highway 94 just east of the Barret café, I know the road. I have not been through there for about six months. There may be a gate and/or fence at the bottom of the trail where it meets 94. In the past there was always room to get around it, not sure about now. Has anyone been through there recently? Worse case, we can't get through/around the gate and we have to come back over the hill, no problem. Just start with full gas tanks and we should be fine. -

Very cool! I saw you on the video footage on the news. The big KTM 'kind of' stands out in a group of cruisers. ;-) That procession was a very nice tribute to a fallen hero. -
Welcome back and thank you for your offers!

Otay Truck Trail- A cautionary tale
haywood replied to Mikey777's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
Glad to hear you are OK. I have had similar encounters twice, but not nearly as close with border patrol vehicles. That fine gravel on the hard pack dirt can be like riding on marbles. Mister F150 needs to realize that road is not a race track. -

Nice! Probably out there all by yourself, huh?
