KLXBEN replied to Uncle Champ's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
all the stuff for the bike skid case savers rad guards hand guards for me. all i have atm is some military desert boots canvas like carhart jacket, dirt helmet and goggles and some fox gloves haha As far as the bike, it sounds like all you need is gas. And for you, it sounds like your set. Be there at 9. Its not that serious of a ride for that bike -

Nice pics bob! I had a really good time. Lots of fun riding in that area and Jerry was a great tour guide. I will try to post my pics but I cant figure out how to upload from my new smart phone. Still trying though. Lets hit it again soon, I need more seat time before the Dash. -
Very, Very sad news. I had the pleasure of meeting Ben when I bought that R/C car from him he had for sale a while back. Very nice guy and patient with explaining to me about the car. He never once asked me why I wanted it if I never even had a car before let alone a complicated gas car. Even let me pay payments. A real stand up guy. Best wishes to his family. Ben

You do not want to try putting rear leaves in the front. If you look at the front leaves you will see that they are actually different side to side. the pad on one side of the diff is actually higher. if you put the same height springs on the truck it will sit crooked. There is not much you can do to mellow out the ride. They have a heavy duty suspension on a very light truck. When buying shocks do not buy nitro shocks. Only get oil shocks as the nitro shocks will be way to firm. I have 3.5" lifted front springs and 2.5" rear spring from Northwest offroad (NWOR) and Skyjacker shocks to make it ride good. Old man emu are also quality ride springs though very expensive. I have had my lift kit for over 10 years with no sag or other problems. Lifted shackles with cause a super rough ride. Always use stock shackles to keep a decent ride. Check out NWOR. They sell quality parts http://www.northwestoffroad.com/parts/suspension_intro.php

Reminds me of that cheesy 80's motorcross movie "winner takes all" Love it!! -
BTW, Chariot Canyon is the first stage on day 1. It is only about 20 min into the ride. Hit it fast and hard (The Hill) :0

I have had my 85 toyota 4x4 since 1998 and it has been the best truck. I think $3000 is very reasonable but would have been a little better with fuel injection but still a good deal. If you are going to do much offroading the best upgrade you can possibly do is cross over steering. The stock push-pull system is weak and problematic where the crossover kit takes a bit of work and not super cheap but WAY better. On my truck I installed the steering last year with a detroit locker up front and a Tacoma TRD e-locker diff in the rear. Now its a super off roader. I have a lot of info and personal experience with these trucks so if you have any questions or need advice I would be happy to help.

I could be wrong, but by the aluminum swingarm that is a 78.5. I had one and lost it in the cedar fire. These pics always bring back good memories of how my buddies would make fun of my old RM then ride it and come back with respect. A guy at work has a 77 RM370 that i am always bugging him to sell me. I dont even want to ride it I just want to restore it and look at it. Very nice job on the build and keep up the good work. I would love to see it in person. SDAR vintage bike rally would be a good idea.

I want to wish everyone a very happy holiday. I am currently in Baton Rouge, LA visiting my mom. After a gnarly 1720 car trip last weekend we will be leaving fri @ 5am. Today we will be having prime rib, fried oysters, char grilled oysters, fried shrimp, sweet potato dumplings and cajun green beans. The seafood is crazy good here. We bought shrimp that was fresh off the boat and only a couple hours since caught. And it was only 2.99 a pound. We found live blue crabs at 12.99 a dozen and man they were good. I could really get used to all this cajun food but not the heat and humidity of Louisianna. Right now though the weather has been awesome. Just like at home. Oyster po-boys, boudin balls, crawfish etoufee, FRESH pork cracklins. Man I am going to miss the food. laissez le bon temps rouler!

Also on the Lobster run they passed my 17yo son right on through with his birth cert and drivers license on a bike with no plate and registered to me.

Is KLXBEN reconsidering his poor decision not to make a showing down there this weekend? Hmmmmmm..... well since RAD is gonna try to make it... we will see how this week goes. Maybe Brad and I will come down for the day. oh..and I do have a 2 stroke Harbor freight generator with a broken exhaust pipe that I would like to see how long it will go on a tank of fuel. Thats right stir the hornets nest.
