  1. ... as I play catch up to many of the ride stories, I see nobody replied to your h-guard question. CYCRA.... built super tough. Especially if you use a "upper triple clamp" mount, or the "solution" mount. ... for your sake, the utc mount, would probably work out. The solution mount is for less instrumented bikes (too much to get in the way). Thanks for replying! I looked at the cycra guards and they do look tough. I am also considering guards built by sunline.
  2. Your talking about the TTR right? I bought this one from a dude in P.B. He had posted it for a while for more money then dropped the price so now its mine.

Oofa....I suddenly feel so old. how many DECADES you been riding? I have been riding for 3 and a half! I used to ride Palm Avenue and 905... both gone... Do you have any old photos of palm ave? I went there as a kid and would love a flashback!
  4. I like to mail order through Chapparell-racing.com. Very reasonable prices and free shipping on orders over $150. Be sure to order a catalog when placing an order. They do not send it automatically and its very nice to have around for research.
  5. Riding up to Mnt Laguna last week I noticed my exhuast pipe busted at the frame mount. It pulled off the pipe and is now a big hole. It is not the header pipe but right after the sealing gasket. I do not have the stock pipe anymore as the bike did not come with it. I will most likely have an exhaust shop bend me up a new piece of pipe as the silencer is not damaged. I have done some but not a lot of research for a new pipe but only find kits for KLR's and KLX650R's. No good pictures though and I hate guessing whether or not it will work. Anybody have any experience with aftermarket exhaust's for this model? Am I s.o.l. on this? Help. I will post a photo later when I get Back from Baton Rouge.(Wednesday) Thanks, Ben
  6. Awsome!! I love adventure stories. I long to do a solo trip to the sierras. Just like Randy our faithful leader!

    Lunch in or near Julian

The Santa Ysabel casino is very nice. I ate dinner there and the food was great. We had the $4.95 prime rib special very good deal. In the main diningroom they have a giant picture window overlooking lake Henshaw. Great view! I recommend it. Shouldnt be too crowded. There is also a burger joint between Julian and Santa Ysabel in the community of Wynola. I have not eaten there but it is always busy and smells good.

I could not pass it up!

Excellent find! Those suzuki quads run forever and have great re-sale value. I dont know about polini motorcycles. Are they Honda knock-offs or what?
  14. If you live around alpine, descanso, pine valley I ride a lot after work and will show you around. Some fire roads and trails are easily accessed in this area. If you live in the city you may be more hard pressed to find good legal roads. PM if you are interested in weekday evening rides. I live in Descanso and get off work at 4:00. I usually ride a couple hours and are home before dark.

Back to Basics - Riding In Dirt

My KLX650 is a heavy pig. Airing down the front helps a lot. I found you just have to trust the power and suspension to (hopefully) put you into and out of the turn or over the obstacle. Steer more with your footpegs and use the rear wheel as a type of rudder. That technic works better standing. Bigger bikes do not react as fast as smaller bikes. On the DD I learned that when I would try to rush fast and hard into sharp turns I would only end up off the trail and into the bushes. I had to slow down and plan to set the bike in the turn. I steer the front where I think it should go and let the wheel pick the line then throttle through.Dont try to keep up with faster riders on lighter bikes.
  16. Met up with Shockandawe at bear valley at 5:30. Headed up Deere Park rd as he had never been that way. That trail is a lot of fun. He had a little trouble with a front brake caliper that would lock up tight! But some pressure release via bleeder would solve that problem temperaly. Off to the view point over the desert. After taking in the excellent scenery we headed south on the trail towards Sunrise hwy. We were thinking about Thing Vallley rd. Heading up Sunrise Hwy I loose sight of Paul. I back tracked about a mile and there he was with a locked up brake caliper on the side of the road. WTF? I have never seen a caliper completely lock up on its own without even touching the lever! This time I completely drained the master cyl to eliminate any pressure that could build. We figured it was best to head back to Deere Park rd and took in a awesome sunset overlooking the valley. It was cool. Shockandawe is a great guy and a good rider. I hope to ride more with him in the future. We got back to the cul-de-sac around 8:45 and about 45 miles. Great ride I was tired when I got home.
  17. I live in Descanso and ride a lot after work during the week. I get off at 4:00 usually home by 4:30. Give me a call or PM me and I can ride with you during the week. Motorcycle insurance

I started my insurance by adding my KLX to my Allstate policy. My agent told me Allstate uses a different company for motorcycles--ok? The company that they set me up with could not seem to get everything in order. They would send me packets in the mail over and over wanting me to sign the same places. Just when I thought I was all done with the paperwork (about 2 months went by) They sent me a notice telling me my policy was cancelled because they found me "uninsurable" something about my inexperience. I have never had any accidents and insuring me was no problem before for them so this was the last straw. I am now insured by Geico and have not had any problems very easy online or over the phone. And they were cheaper about $150 for (2) motorcycles with liability and uninsured motorist. Allstate was surprised I cancelled their coverage but when I called them with the problems they told me to call that company b/c it is their policy!! I do not remember the name of Allstate's motorcycle carrier but they suck and like to waste a LOT of paper.
