  1. Pyro is IN for this years Desert Dash! The check is in the mail today. I'll be looking for a riding partner(s) for saturday. I want to try getting started early this time and run the whole route if possible. See ya'll there!
  2. Thank you Dirt Dame! I got inspired by your Bailey Day ride, and decided to plan a loop. All i was going from was the photo you posted on Facebook and the name Bailey. I was hoping to find the cabin along the way, but the main idea was to do a cool loop that included a good chunk of unknown territory that was new to me. So I did a little research, found some info on a 4x4 blog and planned a route on mapsource. The planned route calculated in at only 174 miles, but at the end of the day I had logged in over 300. The extra mileage came from having to double back again and again, then exploring every possible way to get back on route, but hitting dead end after dead end after closed trail after locked gate after private property etc. etc. etc. It was fun checking into all the possible routes along the way, and a little bit frustrating because none of them panned out. But I kept it clean, turning around over and over and continuing to search each time, while enjoying an amazing day of riding adventure with perfect weather. And there was not another rider to be seen anywhere out on these trails. So here was the original plan. And here are the tracks from what actually happened. It all started bright and early on a thursday morning in lovely Carlsbad, CA. 60 miles later out in Anza, the tar turns to dirt! Entering Anza Borrego (for the first time of the day) The plan was to go down through there. HAHA ! Found it right off the bat! Stopped to use the facilities . . . And off to continue the loop! Except for this. Well that trashes plan A. Oh well, at least I can take this cool wash back out. There's the exit switchbacks going up the hill. It was a beautiful area to visit. Tommy, your old bike is running like crazy! Thanks brother! Time for some brunch and reformulate the plan. And the verdict? FREESTYLE ! Little did I know, I was now embarking on a journey of self discovery . . . With each mile I was becoming more and more enlightened. Ahhh, back in the park once again! When I saw this one, I knew I was on the wrong path. Yep, time to turn around again. I had no official business with the council, so I did not enter. Water ok? Ya right . . Bad water. You can see the desert back there, but I won't be getting there from this direction. I was starting to feel caged in. I hate that feeling! This one was showing up as a road on my gps. I guess it used to be at some point? Not anymore. I guess it was closed anyway, even way back when. It was another beautiful spot to visit. How about an alternate route out then? Nope. Got Milk? And the journey continues, heading east towards the desert once again. Here's where I finally picked up my planned route again. Atleast I thought I did . . . oops. Wrong Turn Dead End Part 8 - Revenge of the High Desert Junkyard Zombies. Plenty of really good junk laying around here. Hmmmm . . I could just live here and stay busy for years! O.K., back on track. I thought I had done this one before but I had not (yet). Ahhhhh, entering the lovely park once again It was a fun, easy trail and somewhat scenic.
  3. Thanks everyone for your comments. I love it ! Keep 'em coming - more More MORE! haahhaahahahhaah Ya, I saw that on your thread! What tha . . . Pretty cool though huh? Not one, but two restrooms on site. . . Men's & Women's maybe?
  4. Great one DD! Thanks. I got inspired when I saw your cabin photo on facebook. Too bad I didn't read your write-up here first, or I would have already known that the route I was planning did not go through. But then again, If I knew that ahead of time I may not have ever gone down there to see it.
  5. By now the shadows were getting long . . . But I was all whipped up and unable to stop at this point. So I decided to toss in an old favorite at the end, for good measure. The switchbacks were challenging with the sun in my eyes. Thankfully some of them were now shaded. Top of the world buddy boy! Time to get the heck out of here. It was still sunny up in Julian. But this day was just about over . . . And what a great day it was! The end. Ride on forever SDAR!

    LETS RIDE!

Welcome aboard m8! I'm a very non-technical rider, but i consider that a technicality. I'll look forward to seeing you out on the trail one of these days.
  7. CHEATER!!! Seriously though, does it still have the foot brake too? I've never heard of such a thing.
  8. I'm not exactly sure, but it was around 280 or so for the day.
  9. I wanted to make Bagstr's Anza Borrego ride today. With brand new tires installed I was up around 6am thinking it over. It was freezing on the porch and I was lazy, so I went back to bed . . . Back up around 9am and it's looking like a great day to ride again. I kicked myself for not being in the desert at that moment, and made some coffee. 3 cups later and I was geared up and on the road with no plan what-so-ever. So I just played it unscripted and let my bike decide where it wanted to go: We ended up heading towards De Luz. Oops, can't go this way anymore I guess. Ok, how about this way then? Bingo! Snow over on San Jacinto. Maybe I'll head in that direction? Or over there maybe? Pine Trees and crisp fresh air! Ended up over in Idyllwild. Really great weather today. The Boneyard. Glider launching @ Warner. As the sun went down the light turned golden. It turned out to be a kick ass loop and a really fun day! Ride on forever amigos!
  10. Right on brother! Looks like we all had fun regardless of our lazy start on the day
  11. haahhahahaah classic! Historically i've gotten 2000-3000 miles at best, usually closer to 2k. Back then I was riding like an ass though. I hope to do better on this one.
  12. Very cool! He's a lucky kid to have a dad that will take him out riding like that.

I Encountered a Mountain Lion Today

Thanks KKug for posting. It is saddening to see this. All we can do is be aware of these great animals, and do our best to help them survive the human infestation that they are experiencing. They are true predators, and therefore need space and fresh meat to survive. If you are attacked by this animal, be assured that it is indeed trying to kill and eat you. Let's give tribute to this awesome wild animal. If they can not be wild and survive, than I can't either . . . (wtf u doing here photo guy, I'm trying to eat) Live on great Mountain Lions of this earth!
  14. Hey I might be up for this one. What time is the meet up? If I can get me some new tires on by tomorrow maybe I'll see ya there . . Never done 'Volcanic Hills, Railroad Dunes, Sandstone Canyon Plus++' that I know of, but then again maybe I did and was just completely lost at the time . . .
  15. That's one clean machine bro! WOw, great job! Now it's making me wonder . . . Is it possible for a dirt bike to be too clean??? hahahahaahhahaha
  16. My buddy Andrew called me out for some KLR cruisin' today. Thanks for the invite brother! It was epic conditions with good moisture in the dirt, no dust, crisp clean air, and my rocket powered KLR! Yeah, it's only a C sized rocket motor but better than nothing right? So I met Big A and his super cool homeboy Mike out on the 94, and away we went. It was another historic all KLR ride in the books. Gotta love it! Mike was still in the break-in period on his new machine. I know he was trying to keep it under 4500rpm . . . Did you pull it off man, or did I hear you hitting a redline or two out there?? mawAHAHAHAHHAAHHAHA Staging area . . Time to roll out! Homeland Security check. Threat profile alpha. Patriot Point Monument. Captain Robert Crooks to the red security phone please . . . No word from Minuteman Crooks. He is currently MIA . . . Mike ripped the buckles out of his racing boots by accident, so he was sporting sneakers. He is a skilled rider and was able to get away with it for a day. This was a great little road. Yep, we made it there! Here's proof: There was no sign of the other group, just a bunch of yaehoo dirtbikers buzzing around in circles, god bless 'em! mawAHAHAHAHAHAH It was sorta chilly but not really. Off to find some viewpoints. Found one! Holiday ham on sale in the green outfit. A bit of snow up there. Hey, a bit of snow down here too! WooooHOOOOO I LOVE SNOW! All good things must end . . Yeah, I'm bummed out too bro Here he comes! Epic Viewpoint #2: Thanks Guys! I had a blast riding with you today. Pure epicness all the way. Stay in touch lets do it again soon. Maybe next time we hit the dez?? RIDE ON AMIGOS !
  17. Yep that was me in the tree! That's cool Paul I had a feeling that was you riding by. The pleasure was all mine my friend. Anytime.
  18. I love all those vintage rides! One of these days I'm going to get one too. But for now I am as close to vintage as you can get in the modern era: So how about a 2004 with 1984 technology? Does that qualify?
  19. Great stuff ya'll! That rocky section looks like a fun challenge, along with keeping up a steady pace to cover all that mileage. This is another one of the rides that I have been wanting to do pyro-style for a number of years now. Maybe next year my time will come!
  20. I was due for a test ride this morning. It was great conditions after the rain last night. The plan was to try to make it down to McCain to thank Slut in person, but I got a bit side tracked . . . There was a few clouds scattered around but not much. You can see the Salton Sea in the distance. There was enough rain over the weekend to fill up some pretty good puddles. Not much in the water crossings though. Awesome views along the way. The air was crisp and cold . . . and a bit of snow! It was melting fast off the roof top. Later on I caught a glimpse of a cool lake. Guess which one (?) Back home again! Aaaaaahhhhhhhh!! SDAR ROCK ON FOREVER!!!
  21. hahahhahahahaha nice one Deb! Those guys can ride circles around me these days. I've gotten old and even slower!
