    Rider missing in OTAY area

Ive been gone but now back and willing to help. Is anyone organizing the search? Sherrif? Check in at Pio pico? I wonder what they need most, hikers, dirt bikers, SxS or what? steve
  2. I dont know if there are any folks that would know what impact the baja 1000 would have on us going tomorrow up to Laguna hansen and then down to Ojos and then over to Coyote cals? It seems like the Baja 1000 is over with the ceremony today in La Paz. I dont mind the border traffic since we will be on bikes but I don't want to get run over by racers or wanna be racers either. Thoughts?
  3. Guys, I thinking of going small bikes - Tecate to Coyote Cals with one of my childhood friends. We would go Tecate, Ojos, Urapan, etc... If there any racing or anything going on that weekend we need to be concerned about? DD

    Baja Cobwebs

Looks like a good trip. I have not been to Baja in 16 months I am looking forward to getting down there for a quick trip this weekend. Gotta get back in the groove! DD
  5. That is pretty much the nicest layout for a RR I have ever seen! Looks like a fun ride and a great recap. Thanks. DD
  6. OK, I got the GPX files. It looks like I would be OK except for the section beyond Ojos and before I turn to go through the mountains to end up in Uropan. It looks like a 15 -20 mile section of overlap. Hmmm, any other suggestions for northern Baja that weekend? DD
  7. Oh, just that little thing! Ive been overseas the last year and just getting back into the swing of things. Hmmm, Im looking for a link that shows better resolution so I can see what exact route they are taking. Sorry for the seemingly clueless question. steve

  9. That sounds like a great chance for someone that is looking for low cost turn key trip to see the length of Baja! Thanks for offering! DD

how was the ride? I wanted to do the desert ride but couldn't break away on Saturday. steve
  14. I see my dogs as family also. In fact better than some of my family! As a side note. One of my friends grew up on a farm in KS. In his family dogs were not pets they were just part of the animals. They would no more bring a dog into the house than a cow. Maybe it was just a family thing but he led me to believe it was more of a farmer outlook towards animals. I guess my point to this post is that I agree that human emotions towards dogs run the whole spectrum. There are probably some people that would sell their house for the health of their dog/cat. Maybe. DD

    I'm the new guy!

What are the "trail" tires that came with your bike? I think it would be an advantage for you to have a more dirt oriented tire than a less dirt oriented tire. Even in the gravel, graded roads a street tire can be a handful. Invariably you will ride your bigger bike in the dirt and either: 1) you crash multiple times and you go away thinking that dirt riding sucks and you won't be back or 2) you crash multiple times and you go away thinking that you ought to get a smaller bike to perfect your crashing routine. haha By crashing I am not talking catastrophic life changing crashes I am talking about you jam on your front break at 5-10 mph, the front end locks up, the bike goes down, you get some scratches and break a lever or something. I personally have been through 472 crashes of this sort. :-) Anyway, welcome and have fun on your dirt riding intro!
  16. Wow I think everyone is jealous that you have got a wife that rides! Nice trip!
  17. My buddy and I went down to San Felipe via Laguna Hanson and the goat trail. We got back today. It was pretty much a perfect weekend. The temperature up to the point of the dry lake bed was cool sweatshirt type of weather. Clear, sunny, and crisp. One item of note. We were on the compadre trail mid morning on Saturday. There was a sizable bicycle event with about 150 riders and about 50 chase cars. Everyone poking along as they climbed the grade out of Rancho Santa Veronica. Funny to see so many chase vehicles. Not sure where they were going. We turned off the CT at Rancho Compadre. More sand than what I remembered coming out of the dry lake baed and heading to SF. It is probably no different but I don't remember miles of soft sand like we had. DD
  18. 250 miles the first day ; the second day (return) we did the dry lake bed but then blasted on the highway to Ojos followed by the the compadre trail to tecate. The second day was much quicker.
  19. The trail was good. I probably have not been on it in a year or more. No issues other than a random gate that was wire tied shut. No signs WRT no entry and no lock but it was not looped like a normal gate. We used pliers, untied it and then tied it back up. We didn't do the whole goat trail we popped out by the church. DD
  20. I always heard that the insurance was a fallout of the napolianic method of law - guilty until proven innocent. So, if you are in a car accident they put everyone in jail until the whole thing is sorted out. Then the guilty pay and the innocent get to go about their lives. Insurance is basically your bond that THEY will pay if you are found guilty. If I drive my truck/car I get insurance. On my bike I rationalize that I can't do much damage to others and mostly I'm in the boonies not anywhere where damage will get reported. So on my bike I routinely go without. Ive been stopped twice going into Mexico at Tecate in the last 6 weeks. Checked for my registration and "searched". They never asked for insurance even the one time when my registration was expired. They did grill me about the expired registration to the point where if they were interested in insurance they would have asked. Im not advocating any of the above. Just my .02. --------------------- About 6 months ago I tried to get across the border with some pallets for a beach fire. Turned around at Tecate- can't bring in scrap wood. Tried TJ and then tried Otay. Same thing - no scrap wood. So, maybe things are tightening up down there. DD

    Hello from Dulzura

Welcome. Im your neighbor over in Jamul. It seem periodically I see tours of our area that someone will post and then lead. I need to get in on one of those myself. Im more interested in the impromptu sunday afternoon ride for an hour or two. If you ever feel like that, text me. Although this weekend no good. 6/200-8383 steve

I wonder if anyone has stayed at the hotel? I wonder if the food prices are reasonable or if the gouge you for eating/drinking? I don't remember much else around there to eat within walking distance. steve
