Maybe I can meet for a bit and try to NOT crash with my mediocre headlight -
McCain Friday 10:00am . Should I lookout for Racers?

Robert- I've ridden with you, and know you ride within your limits. I think he was tongue-in-cheek asking if any fast guys might be out there to look out for... It's why I mentioned Andy. Goes a pretty quick pace, but not out of control. as we all know; even slow controlled riding can have negative consequences... even on weekdays. My last mid-Monday ride ended up in a head-on with another SDAR guy! We didn't know we were each going to be there, or we would've met up, and just gone the same direction! it was actually funny.... "oh no!"... *smash*.... "ouch... Bob; you ok?"... "yeah... how do you know my name?" -
Ken... just wait until you start hitting the whoops at 60+.... you'll really notice a difference

Just a quick comparison from my perspective, with a side by side foto- I have really enjoyed my MT43 since I drank the dot-trials cool-aid. Great grip on the rocky trails I frequent, and "ok" everywhere except snow and loose downhills. Soft carcass makes it a breeze to install, and for flat repair *ahem*.....mounted a Motoz hybrid for Axel this weekend...DAM this thing is a monster; thick-walled, heavily knobbed, bitch to install...it truly sucked... .side by side foto shows a more rounded profile, which looks better for riding on the edge of the tires...Motoz has bigger knobs with a firmer compound too...i'll assume it lasts longer, although the MT lasts pretty well....motoz knobs are also arranged with some space, so I"m going to guess better in sand and loose stuff. I plan on riding with him next week, so we'll see which tire is faster, and I'll report back
-
agreed... high horsepower bikes do well with the desert IT. you will have some issues in hard pack if you don't use that throttle judiciously, but for most applications that's a good tire for your bike. I've adjusted my riding to the MT; rarely wheel spin, and stay away from mud... and tracks. Other than that, it's good for what I do

robertaccio to the white courtesy phone in the lobby actually; there is a guy on a kawi450 that rides out there a LOT during the week, but he basically beelines North, so if you stay in the main park, you'll probably never see him again... "Andy" is his name; cool guy -
Well that sucks- be careful out there folks
-
yeah... that tab should fit in a notch on the speedo cable housing... of course sneeker will probably pop in and show his look exactly like yours, making him right, and me wrong ha- not really... that would never happen
-
Also...look how clean that part of the axle is; it has been protected from the elements. Bruce; did you understand my post? It happened once with my XR, and I've done it twice with my DRZ. The speedo cable needs to rotate forward, and that will let the forks "snug up"...if I'm right, and you ride it that way, you'll have stiction and wear, since the forks are slightly bent top to bottom. again; I'm just talking from memory...don't have one in my garage to look at...PM advbum, xrl650noob, badfish, etc
-
I don't remember mine for sure, but I "think" the speedo part is binding up in the wrong location; try loosening the axle, then rotate the speedo unit... I "think" it will click in place properly, and you can tighten all the nuts like others have said
-
although it's the opposite side of ABDSP, Font's Point might be a nice drive too... get lunch in Borrego Springs, then drive out to Font's Point. A lot of sand, but I've done it in my 4x2, so I know it's possible; keep the speed up and don't stop until you find some hardpack
-
like most articles, that one is poorly written. It said a fiery crash on a ramp, but one attempted to cut across vegetation.... and... only mentions one fire but two motorcycles.. Maybe I didn't read it well enough, but it seems like it's trying to be provocative rather than informative trophy hunter- false alarm
-
trophy hunter to the white courtesy phone in the lobby

oh... and I have a 4x4 book for the San Diego area if you would like to borrow it. I ride the 8 corridor every day if you would like me to drop it off somewhere for you
-
this is the area that first popped in my head too... Fish Creek, Canyon Sin Nombre, Split Mountain, Mud Caves... nothing really hairy for a 4x4, fairly well-traveled and ranger patrolled should something go wrong, but not really a party spot (like Blaire Valley and OW can be) accessible from the S2

Ha..we used to jump off the school roof on bmx bikes with no gear...helmets and gloves were required in our family for dirtbikes, but bicycles were ignored....and yes; I rode a MR50 in the drainage ditches of orange county and out to the construction sites with minimal gear...i'm just saying while we're all feeling nostalgic, the bikes are SO much better today, and I feel naked without a helmet and boots on...
-
Way to treat a guest_guest_* bowers! Have you no manners?!?!
-
I hate to rain on everybody's Nostalgia Parade, but riding without gear was lazy and foolhardy (and we didn't have half the stuff we have now) and the bikes were all motor and no suspension and brakes...was it a blast? Yeah! But modern bikes are SO good in comparison, and we're not 12 anymore...i'll keep my gear and 11" of travel, disc brakes, etc
-
Oversize pegs are good...bar risers are good...but; go ride the thing; this will let you know what you really need
-
Tell Justin you're the Bastard son of Strega and Crawdaddy and you'll get a better deal
-
I wouldn't mind doing an overnight, just to see if I would hate it as much as I think I would.
