Your ideal SD to Cabo moto
bikeslut replied to Goofy Footer's topic in Baja Info, Upcoming Rides, Ride Reports, Photos, etc.
I like bajarim's idea...singletrack down (not TOO tech please), kick it in Cabo 2 days, then fly back home while somebody else worries about the bikes. Hotels all the way, OR a chase truck with sleeping arrangements -
Never succumb to ultimatums. On the other hand, not sure which is more high maintenance....hhhmmmm

If you leave now, you can probably get there by November. If next weekend is cooler, I may head out there, and can pick you up in lakeside.

those heidenau are wicked expensive last I looked; but you found out what we've been trying to tell you... it's not the miles on the BIKE that matter, it's how fast the tires go away. 1200 on a dirt tire is a lot When I was running knobbies on my other KLR, I got 800 miles out of the rear Get something with better longevity, and it will generally suck in the dirt... I still like the 606 for cheap/long lasting but... Tires are the main reason I truck everywhere, even Pine Valley which is only 15 miles away from my house. Joe Hauler, small trailer, or a truck You'll be ahead in the long run, saving your knobs for the dirt

SDAR Summer Picnic and Pot Luck-- 8-22-15 Fiesta Island
bikeslut replied to kkug's topic in Upcoming Meetings
On a totally unrelated note (other than Fiesta Island tie-in) I played with a band at the Beachcomber Sunday after the OTL tournament was done. The team Tree was usually on won the whole thing (if I understood all the banter in the club and on facebook). Lots of "Tree Work Ahead" shirts. Tree smiling down from above -

bring him back SicVic! Donde estas carajo?
bikeslut replied to robertaccio's topic in Open Discussion
He deserted us...he doesn't return texts or calls. I was going to drop in to his place, but he probably has trip wires to claymores and punji pits everywhere. I suspect he went back to his last line of work to replenish his bank account after his last epic adventure...or...he just doesn't like us anymore -
SDAR Adopt a Trail - Ranger (912)
bikeslut replied to mctrails's topic in Adopt a Trail and Other Trail Maintenance Issues, Volunteer Trail Days, etc.
When it cools down a bit, and I'm in...trail 1 could use some trimming too, and of course Kernan -
And it had a stripper pole inside!

SDAR Adopt a Trail - Ranger (912)

Yeah- that's 3A. I used to enjoy the challenge of that trail, but I'm more mature now and just avoid that ----. I'm out to flow and have fun, not endure and overcome. Ranger is still on the fun/flow side with the right group -
Yeah- my DR350 always clunked into gear when cold, and was hard to find neutral when stopped.
-
Lark canyon- 8 am @ the oak tree...intermediate terrain and pace.

My F250 also got stuck on fiesta!...I got pulled out...by a 4 banger Toyota...the horror!

NSFW... I know this for a fact, because the guy down the hallway just told me to turn down the sound on my computer. Lucky he works for me, and HR isn't in on weekends

Saturday or Sunday?
bikeslut replied to Little Bike's topic in Informal Local Rides & Who's Going Riding!
I only rode this road once... and I was wearing tennis shoes because I forgot my boots... I'd like to ride it again. Would you say it's a KLR road or a DRZ road? I vaguely remember going up a steep off-shoot to a look-out tower/station type thing. That would've sucked on the KLR with street tires -
got a PM from a member... The Tighten Ups are playing Wong's Dragon Room in La Mesa (7126 University) tonight from 9:30-1ish no cover, cheap PBR and cheap bartenders. Some foosball and billiards... https://youtu.be/7bGaJ0vxaR8

I had a Ford 250 for 10 years and 200,000 miles... one rebuilt transmission, one new set of brake pads... I treated that vehicle worse than I treat my bikes, and it never once complained... one time, two weeks before I was going on a two week mountain biking trip, up mountain passes, etc, I "thought" it would crap out, and I pre-qualified for a loan... sure enough, right around Sylmar, it started making a loud racket like I hid a Harley under the bed. Nothing in the area for help so I kept driving... noise never went away, and I kept it for 60,000 more miles. ended up giving that truck to a SDAR vet (who forgot the warning that GAS was in one of the tanks) that being said; the cummins/Allison combo is pretty much the standard for heavy duty trucks... just offering that my Ford was great.
