    Local trials boots and helmets?

Didn't see your post on the trials bike....RMATV and Motorcycle Superstore both offer free returns on helmets. Have fun

    Local trials boots and helmets?

I use a Fly Racing downhill Mt bike helmet for trail riding. It is far lighter and much better ventilated than a 'regular' DOT helmet. I wouldn't wear it for desert or dirt road touring but on single track trails I'm slower than a downhill Mt biker. I've weighed the risks and am happy with my helmet choice for the riding I do. Trials riders rarely exceed 20 mph so consider that when you grab your trials helmet for a dualsport ride.

    Baseball cards?

There used to be a price guide, kinda like a newspaper, listing the current value. Obviously, they are only worth what you can sell it for but would give you an idea of the values. I haven't looked at a sports card in 30 years but there is still a market out there.

    The Ocotillo Flood of 1976.

I think we've all bombed down that wash into (or out of) Ocotillo. I always wondered what happened to Old 80 between Ocotillo and Dos Cabezas.
  5. Nice. My facebook feed has been blowing up over Tomac's 1-1 finish. I haven't read anything more than headlines but seems he took the homefield advantage and mopped up the world's best.

    Any rides coming up?

Looking at next week now. My meeting won't be until after the 15th so I'm going to ride. The nasty fire in the Greenhorns shut the area down, but the Piutes are now open for business. Any and all bikes are welcome. When I figure out my schedule I'll post it in the proper forum. Jb

    500 Exc - 2017

I've never owned a vehicle with 2 means of starting the engine. Either kick start or electric start never both. Only one ever problem with a 1965 Chevy Impala with a dirty starter connection. Cleaned it up and started like new. Even if it was 30 years old.

    Real world truck mpg

Not entirely true. Toyota trucks return about the same posted mileage. My 08 Ranger with 3l V6 would average around 20 mpg combined driving and 25 on road trips. On a moto trip to Placerville with a bike on the hitch hauler I got 23mpg for the ~1000 miles I drove that week. I agree with what Spaugh said about the 2 vehicles. Split your truck budget and buy a commuter car and small truck. The gas savings will pay for the insurance and registration and put gas in your tank for moto trips. That's exactly what I did. I sold the Ranger and now have an older full size van and commuter car and may have cost me $1000 out of pocket for the two. I'm actually paying less for insurance and registration than I was on just the one truck.

    Any rides coming up?

I'm thinking I'll be heading up next week (after Labor Day). I'm supposed to meet with a Federal Inspector but they're dicking the dog instead of scheduling meetings (Labor Day?). I'll wait until close of business Tuesday then make plans for later in the week. There was a nasty fire in the Greenhorns so I may go into the Piutes instead.

    Any rides coming up?

I'm going to be road tripping into the Southern Sierras soon. I'm not sure when, this week or next. Probably some weekdays and into the weekend.

    August,,,Will It Never End

Hopefully not! That would mean one more month that I haven't gotten out for a ride. Maybe next week before the month ends. If you aren't riding year round you're doing it wrong.

    Help for Randys old 640

Considering that half the the thing needs repairs or more. How about turning it into a street tracker/cafe racer? Part out whatever serviceable pieces you don't need to help fund the build. Might need a different seat for 2 up rides.

    Greenhorn

Yessir, I camp in the valley from Nov-April. Keyesville or Weldon KOA. It just depends on where I want to ride that trip. JB

    Greenhorn

Damn Don, you're supposed to go around the roots. I seem to recall alot of deadfall and a small reroute out there on Pup Meadow. I'll look for the little bastard that got you. On Portaguese trail there was a reroute for a downed tree that could've been moved with one cut but the reroute cut down a living tree and left a vicious little stump behind. I need to move the dead tree and re-establish the trail. Crfxer, http://www.co.kern.ca.us/parks/greenhorn.asp This is the spot that Don showed me a few years ago. It's great but they raised the price this season from a very reasonable $14 to a now not so nice $18. There are hot showers and flush toilets there. Jon

    greenhorn 8-3 or so

I am going to try and get up there at the end of this month, but have a lot of commitments to see through before I make any outside plans. I'm WouldsAssassin over there.

    greenhorn 8-3 or so

Is that Shmoe? I've been contributing to his TT thread and trying to get up there and ride with him. Stupid life commitments constantly getting in the way.
