  1. EFI and the electric powervalve and that 2 stroke will almost roll on like an electric bike. In my mountain rides I can go from 2500' to 9000' in just a few hours. In that environment I'll never run a carbed bike again. My modern bikes will climb and climb and never miss a beat. Sherco has been testing EFI for the past couple seasons of racing. I'm curious if they too will be releasing their EFI 2T models for 2018. They were the first to run EFI in the 4T line.

    The Rincon Trail Itch

Was a blast. We all wanted to ride again the next weekend. It is comparable to the Soboba hard loop but another 15-20 miles longer.

    The Rincon Trail Itch

If you rode PNW nasty you should be good for this one. What are you recovering from and what's your time frame?
  4. It was a great ride. Thanks to crfxer and Ty for coming out to make it a special day for me. The rains have really changed the trails in PV. There are more rocks in the rocky parts, more rocks in the not so rocky parts, deeper ruts where there were deep ruts, deep ruts where there weren't ruts and randomly cylinder deep ruts in what used to be pristine trail. There was water flowing in all the creeks, water flowing where there weren't creeks, and standing water at random. Still a great place. If like me you haven't been there in a few months I advise you to take it slow. The trails are very different as the season of rain has really done a number on the landscape. The bushes lining the trails are going to take over in the next couple months. I think I'll have to spend a day hiking and cutting them back. Anyone else care to join me?

Yamaha WR 450 - Rider Sag

What year WR? The newer bikes ride a little different but the race sag window is within 5 mm of the older ones. Pretty much what has been posted. 95-110mm. Pretty much depends on terrain, rider pack, how many carnitas burritos you ate that week...

    Budget GPS?

Yes. Just buy something that's a few generations old. I still use an 8 year old Garmin Etrex that was 2 years old when I bought it. It has a small screen but leaves a trail behind me and gets me where I want to go. I bought it on eBay. Type in handheld gps in the search window and limit the results to however much you want to spend.
  7. Every year I've said I'm going riding on my birthday and not going to work. Well this year it looks like I can take the time to enjoy myself. Crawdaddy and I share the same birthday and always joke about getting out for a ride on our day, but we haven't made any plans. Meeting at the PV cul de sac at 8:30. Ride all morning then big greasy lunch in Descanso.

    My Birthday Ride 3/8

The weather looks good. Warm and sunny. We have one rider that might be a little later than 830. I would say be there ready to gear up at 830. We'll ride when everyone is there and ready.

    My Birthday Ride 3/8

Yup, fixed it. We'll nail down a location in a day or two.
  13. Did the RZR have a legally issued license plate from state DMV? Otherwise it was just an OHV operating on a public motorway.

    Luggage options for YZ450F

What other luggage do you need?
  15. As long as you are conforming to the DOT requirements for a street licensed vehicle what's the difference between a side by side UTV or a beach buggy or something else you built in your shed and licensed for street use? Not that you bought the UTV and built the buggy. The UTV may have emissions testing but neither may have collision or safety testing.
  16. The new legislation only pertains to OHVs not licensed vehicles. In order for non-residents to operate OHVs in CA the owner must have a current registration from a state with reciprocal agreements with CA or purchase a Non-resident OHV pass. That's not anything new. The new is that CA is now enforcing the EPA certification requirements on non-resident OHVs within the state. What we call red sticker season will apply to non resident OHVs operated in CA. The other half of the conundrum pertains to licensed vehicles. As long as you have a plate, current registration and insurance AND all USDOT compliant equipment on a vehicle there's no reason CA would stop you from operating on a public motorway. For a sidebyside, that would mean, DOT compliant headlights, taillight brake lights, mirrors, seat belts, horn, battery, tires or whatever your registering state requires for licensing certification. The legality is whether you're trying to skirt CA laws by registering your non-compliant vehicle out of state but not meeting the state requirements for keeping a vehicle out of state as a CA resident.
  17. Looks like a perfect day on the res. I have only myself to blame for not going. Glad you guys enjoiyed it. I'll hit you up later this year to plan for the next one.

    Soboba Invitational Trail Ride

Well Ken. I was hoping to ride with you but I'm stepping back for this year. I promise you'll have a blast and we'll ride it next year. The weather looks like it should be good. Some rain overnight and a 20% chance all day. Braaaap
  19. I agree with the above. When I bought my street bike I had nothing for street riding. Went into Cyclegear and got all kitted up. Prices can be a little higher on certain things but the selection is big and you'll likely find what you need at a decent price and they have a great return policy.

    Soboba Invitational Trail Ride

I did my first Soboba about 5 years ago. I heard the horror stories and passed it up for a few years before a crew wanted to ride it and asked me to join them. I admit seeing 700-800 bikes lined up at the start was intimidating but once out on the trails it wasn't bad and I had a blast. There were a few bottlenecks but i've wanted to do it every year since. With work and whatever I've only been 2x since and each year was different trails and probably half the riders. The racer types have been at races that weekend and the Desert Dash is also this weekend. The year that had a huge turnout didn't have any races to conflict with the schedule. I might show up for the ride. I've printed my entry and have the cash ready. I'm just unsure if I want to ride in the rain all day. Last time I went it poured all afternoon.
  21. Very nice. Not far from my favorite stomping grounds. Did you attack any of the hillclimbs in Jawbone?

    Yamaha EFI Tuning

Some may have heard that the new FI Yamaha WRs and YZs struggle with hot starting. I've got the electronic tuning tools now and am ready to adjust your factory FI settings to help alleviate your troubles. I can adjust your mapping with the power tuner or your baseline air:fuel ratios with the FI diagnostic tool. If you've contacted your delearship and they don't know how to help, I can. Get in touch and we can meet at a local riding area and spend a few hours getting your bike tuned.
