    Craigslist Stories

Sold a '98 XR250 a while back. it was plated but not the most awesome street bike. Just barely street legal. Two guys show up in a Bentley. I thought they were at the wrong house. Turns out one of the guys is here (Valley Center) to buy the bike. He is from Huntington Beach. The guy in the Bentley leaves. I ask the buyer, how are you gonna get it to HB? I'm gonna ride it. OK. Well he did. Rode it in the dark from VC to HB. He did make it too. I had to call him about his address or something. I asked him how was the ride? He said fine. I just can't imagine riding a 250 up the I-5 in the dark.
  2. Good Morning It's about time to get my rear shock serviced ('07 KTM 450 EXC). I'd like to use a local shop that supports SDAR. Any recommendations are appreciated. Thanks Jim
  3. Hi, Just mounted a front and rear MT43. Using two rim locks rear, one in the front. Moose heavy duty tubes in both. 95% dirt. All kinds, dirt, rocks, sand, mud. Pavement, when I have to. What kind of pressure should I be running? My first ride I thought I would start at about 12 front, 10 rear. Waddaya think? Thanks, Jim

  8. Looks like a fun ride. Me and a couple of other guys were on jasper the same day only headed down. We did a Blu-Inn, Culp, Jasper loop. About 75 miles. Anybody have any GPS tracks of the route you guys took? I kinda have a good idea of most of the areas, some I'm not sure of. Jim

    Precision Concepts Suspension

Pro-Prept in Escondido is excellent too. He does my suspension. It's a small one man shop. Maybe takes a little longer, but high quality work. And he will help you set up your sag, preload, ride height etc. I recommend him just because he has always done a good job for me. http://propreptmotocross.com/
  10. I have the Zacspeed RP-3 It is the smaller one. A little limited on storage, but otherwise I really like it. It took a while to get it adjusted just right, but once adjusted it is very comfortable. I've had it for probably over a year now and no problems. I think the bigger one would be better if you were carrying stuff for overnight. I've been using mine for general dual sport and it holds enough stuff. I have some tools, spot, some other junk in it. If the bladder isn't filled all the way you can cram more stuff in it. The water bladder is different that the camelback. I like it better. Overall I recommend it, excellent idea and product.

    A better Fender Bag

I've been using the dirt bike gear front fender inner tube bag on my 07 ktm 450 for a few years. Lots of dual sport rides. No problems. I would reccomend it.
  12. Please check out this thread on D37 forum. These are some of the trails in the E. Sierra video just posted. http://www.district37ama.org/forums/showthread.php?t=31641
  13. Great ride. Really nice to meet everybody. My odo said we did a little over 35 miles. Those little people coming out of my head are the ones who provide the voices that tell me what to do. They leave when I go riding. That was a lucky shot to actually catch one on film. When we were riding down the road by the bee hives a bee or two nailed me in the nose. I thought they just smashed into me then fell off. Well, this morning I woke up with a big red W.C. Fields nose. Got stung by the little guys. After staring at my inflamed nose for a while in the mirror this morning I'm starting to think this look works for me. When we used to ride there, we would grab one of the campsites. Just use it for the day. You have to pay like $7, but it helps avoid the crowd of knuckle heads at the tree. Just food for thought. Can't wait for the next time. Thanks every one.
  14. Oh yea, I know that area. I hope i can make it. Thanks!
  15. Hi All, I joined this forum so I could meet with local riders for some local rides. My schedule has always interfered. There is an outside chance I can make this ride. I'm an intermediate rider, been riding for 40 years. Did the last Desert Dash, B to V. Do most of the D37 dual sport rides. I'm pretty sure I won't slow anybody down too much. If I can make it, I would just meet you at the start. Are you all starting out at Lark Canyon / McCain Valley riding area? There was an oak tree and picnic bench mentioned. Are you talking about the "campsites" at McCain staging area? Do I need a forest permit or some other kind of permit to park there? I haven't ridden there in a few years. I have a white Chevy pickup and an '07 450 KTM. If I can do it I'll be there around 7:30 ish. Thanks Jim

    Coyote Canyon

Used to ride Coyote Canyon from Anza to Borrego Springs many years ago. I had heard it was closed all year now. Is that true?

    Coyote Canyon

Sounds like no through traffic. Am I understsnding that correctly? Sounds like you can only go up to a point and then have to turn back, and the same for coming down? Or is there an alternate? detour? that will let you get from Anza to Borrego Spings?

Pic of Roger snapping pics at Jawbone Friday morning……that’s about the only pic I took during the ride……Roger and Doug have more to share….. That's me and Ralph waiting for gas. He has blue jacket, orange helmet, I have grey jacket, blue helmet. You guys wereright behind us.
  19. Hi Folks I looked for you guys, but ... too many bikes, couldn't find ya. My buddy Ralph and I did the ride. AWESOME ! The grand daddy of dual sport rides. We got out of Lancaster about 7. Had a tough time with the big soft rutted hill. Took us about three times, but finally made it. Rest of the ride was flawless. Hit Barstow about 4. Left Barstow 6:45 We did have to bail after the big water crossing. My friend had a tough time in that long sand wash, had to rest a bit, and we were running a little late. Got to Vegas about 3 or 4. I was really impressed with the wide variety of trails. Too much fun! Jim
  20. Hey Guys I'll be looking for you guys at the start, or where ever we happen to meet. Out in the middle of the Mohave maybe. I'll be riding with my buddy Ralph, from Lake Isabella, you guys might know him, he been riding lots of dual sport stuff over the years. He used to live in SD. We both ride KTM 450's. Both pretty generic looking. I have the "see thru" Clarke tank, he has the gigantic orange KTM tank. My girlfriend Jennifer is gonna be helping out at sign ups. Will be staying at the Oxford Thursday, Ramada on Friday, and Orleans on Saturday. We will probably try the hard ways Friday (weather permitting) and probably just try to make time Saturday on the easy stuff. I hope we can meet up. I'm gettin' kinda jazzed about doing this ride. Jim Martin

    New Old Guy

Just now signed up. My name is Jim. 54 years old. Live in Valley Center. I've lived and ridden in and around north county since '68. Sure used to be a lot more riding areas back then. Mostly ride dual sport rides lately. Play in the desert. Gonna do L to B to V in a few weeks. Raced it in '84. Will go slower this time. Most of the guys I ride with have kinda quit or moved away. I'm hoping to meet up with some more riders.

    New Old Guy

Thanks for the warm welcome. I will look for you guys at L to B to V next week. I should be easy to find, Orange bike with white pickup. There shouldn't be too many combinations like that.
