I had a 1971 RT1B (Yamaha 360) for about a year. About a year ago. I learned lots from the guys on Yamahaenduro.com Some guys live here in SD. They put together some rides once and a while. It's a funky web site, sometimes I can get to it, sometimes not. But there are guys there with a lot of smarts about these bikes. I know a little bit about 'em. I know a guy who can make your tank like new. It will take him a long time, like a month and a half, and cost about $400. Let me know if you are interested. You might be able to buy a tank for that bike. Check the classifieds on Yamahaenduro.com

I've used the Dual Star for many years. It is sometimes hard to get the guy to respond though. They work great. The one I'm using now is on it's second bike and is about 5 years old. Just as good as new. http://www.dual-star.com/index2/Equipment/adjustable_mirror1.htm

KTM 350XCF-W .....breaking it in.....
amgems replied to Crawdaddy's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
You won't get the popping / backfiring, because you don't have all the smog junk like the EXC. The FI mapping is also better (not leaned out) as compared to the EXC. On the EXC when the smog stuff is removed and the JD Tuner is added it will run "almost" as good as the XCF. But that's against the law From what I understand the dealers won't / can't re-map the EXC's any more. Chris, did you add the Sicass 45watt headlight bulb yet? I had problems with those. Went through 3 of them. The solder on the bottom of the bulb melted. All my electrical system checked out OK. Some of the smart guys here at work figured it was cheap solder from India where the bulbs are made. Most solder in US is mostly tin and silver (I think), and the stuff from India and China is mostly lead. There is another 45watt bulb that I'm waitjing to recieve so I can try it out. http://www.eiko.com/Products.aspx?CatID=82&ProductIndex=6245B-BP Is that the TM Designworks skid plate? I got one of those for Christmas. Nice. I have an aluminum KTM Hardparts one for sale now. Nice Pictures. I've got to get up on those trails. Kind of in my backyard too, Poway. You got tracks? -
Mountains this Weekend

Awesome single track in that area. was up there about a month ago. I stayed at the Lake Isabella KOA. Nice place, they are very off road friendly. They even have a little bar on site. -

Head and cylinder rebuild company?
amgems replied to Ray Cole's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
Good point made above. Check the cylinder at a machine shop. It may just need new rings, maybe a diamond hone. Mine was scored from dirt getting in. Out of spec. Racers machine in Escondidio can mic it for you. I think he can diamond hone now too. -
Head and cylinder rebuild company?
amgems replied to Ray Cole's topic in Equipment & Technical Forum
I had the same bike, and did the same thing. Sent the head to Dave, he did an excellent job. All the cylinder platers are back east. Not allowed in California, so LA sleeve will just send it back there. I went with http://www.powersealusa.com/ They provided the piston too. All worked great. I sold the bike, but from what I hear it still doing fine. I didn't touch the carb, but Dave can do that too. -

SPOT FALSE ALARM - THANKS AND SORRY
amgems replied to dsfox's topic in 1 to 3 Day Ride Write-Ups, Stories and Photos
I look at this a little differently- I put the numbers of those NOT likely to be riding with me. My wife is provided with a lits of numbers of various friends who might be able to help. I also file a "flight plan" via email with those on my call list with whom I'm NOT riding. For example- I enjoy riding with Strega, Bikeslut (I know), and Trophyhunter (amongst others!) but rarely ride with all of them together. In a SPOT emergency, my wife will call all of them (or would she...?). Ah..Yes I see, Also a good approach (if they make the call). I also just now realized that I can add multiple numbers and emails that would be contacted in case I hit the help button. When I originally set it a few years ago, I think you could only have one number and one email in there. I was thinking I had to add the extra numbers in the body of the message. Now that I am armed with new knowledge, I'm gonna load it up! Maybe if I contact enough people I'll find at least one who will care enough to try to help. Maybe my Mom. -

Glad to hear you made it out alive! My help button just has a message to my wife saying I need help at the coordinates listed. Having a bunch of numbers is a good idea. I was thinking that maybe the phone numbers of the people you are riding with, maybe local sheriff, ride promoter, etc. would be good to put in the help message too. Great idea! Thanks! -
+1 Racers Machine. Has done a few jobs for me. Always done right.

Rudy at Pro Prept suspension Or Joe at Racers Machine Both in Escondido I'm "pretty sure" they both do wheel lacing

Saw the Klim Traverse at the Klim road show the other night. Very nice! But, it doesn't have the pack feature like the Moose Monarch Pass. The Moose can be rolled up into a bag and then worn like a fanny pack. I have an old one and really like that feature. The Klim quality is the best, but when you want to take it off what do you do with it? Anybody have a Traverse? Can it be rolled up small enough to be stuffed in a back pack?
-
Not sure you're comparing Apples/Apples. The Traverse is heavy enough to be used as a commuter jacket (800 Cordura and Armor Ready), where the Moose is not really road ready. Yes I should have mentioned looking for off road type jacket.
-
Thanks for the info Jim. I'm also looking at the Klim Stowaway jacket. It packs into it's own pack, is waterproof like the Traverse, but not as heavy. Might be a better choice for dual sport. I don't like wearing a jacket unless it is really cold (like 40ish) or it is raining. The coldest temps I've used used my Moose in were 40 degree temps with polyester thermals and stayed warm enough. From 40 to about 60 I've used the jacket with the vents opened up. Anything above that I'll usually take it off.
-
The Klim guy was saying that you don't need to take it off and stow it. He said it can be used in 80 degree temps with the vents open. I don't know if I buy that. What's your experience with that Jim? Thanks!

I have had the same issue, not exclusevly with the trials tire, but more with the heavy duty tubes run at low pressure. They do creep and the stem comes out at an angle. Knobbies and trials too. With me they seem to move a bit when new and then just stay there. I use a lot of talc when mounting and i think that may contribute to the movement. next time I change a tire I'm gonna try it with out talc and see if they stay in one place better. So far no flats because of the creep. I never use a nut on the valve stem.

I have been going to Rudy at Pro-Prept in Escondido for a long time. I have always been very pleased with his work and prices. http://propreptmotocross.com/
