  1. Forgot to mention...The engine has to be at operating temp to set the idle correctly.
  2. I bought a cheapo hour meter. They also work as a tach. It's the kind you use on a generator or such. It has a wire you wrap around the spark plug wire. It can be set for two stroke, four stoke. I think this is the one I have: http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/380654565504?lpid=82
  3. Ok smart guy, I'm bringing my 350F-XCW over to your place for an adjustment.....my bike almost never starts via magic button first thing in the morning......then it's good for the balance of the day You can come over tonight. I've never done it on an XCW. But I would guess it's the same as an EXC?
  4. Sounds like you got / are gonna get the tool you need. I thought I'd post this anyway, since it is kinda related. There is a Suzuki tps setting harness that works on the KTM Suzuki TPS testing pigtail. Bike Bandit Part number 1033294. Suzuki part number shown here: http://advrider.com/forums/showpost.php?p=22444790&postcount=4690 Make sure you set your idle speed to what is spec'd in the manual prior to setting the TPS. I've checked both every few months and the idle speed never changes, but the TPS always needs adjustment. After I reset the TPS the bike starts soooo eazy.
  5. Bagstr Thanks for bringing this up! I pulled apart the same connectors you show in your pics, on my bike last night. I had a lot of corrosion in there. Much worse than yours. It was so bad that one of the female terminals actually broke and fell out of the housing. It was coroded through. It is the one with the orange-white wire. It is just a "dead end" not connected to anything on the mating connector. Good thing. I'll probably replace it anyway. I see from the post above that it is pin 3 +12 volts. Not used on this bike. I saw that you purchased connectors and terminals at Willy's Electronics in Chula Vista. Did they have a good selection of this type of terminals / connectors? They also have a store in Kearney Mesa. Was there any special reason (parts availability ?) you went to the Chula Vista location. I'll go through all those unsealed connectors based on what I saw with this one.

    Spot Connect Replacement

I know a little bit about these because my company was involved with Globalstar back when it was a bunch of companies collaborating. Motorola was a big player in Iridium. I don't know if they are any more. Iridium and Globalstar make a lot of cool products now. Check out the company websites. Spot puts their name on the Globalstar phones and sells them. We have done mechanical durability testing on the old style Globalstar phones, they are very tough. I think the Score Baja racers mostly use the Globalstar (Spot) phones. Spot uses the Globalstar satellite sytem. Iridium has their own. There are probablly other companies using both sytems for other tracking / phone products too. From what I understand, the very simplistic explanation of the systems are: the Globalstar system is more robust and more easy to upgrade as all the "brains" are on the ground. The satellites are basically just relay stations. I think they call it "bent pipe". Iridium has the "brains" in the satellites.
  7. The dielectric grease or just about any lubricant / oil is an insulator. The way it works, is that the connectors "wipe" away the grease, lube, etc. and make a good connection. The grease then just kinda hangs around the outside of the electrical connection protecting it from water, also attracting lots of dirt, and making a mess. I think a light oil like 2-26 or wd40 might make less of a mess, not collect so much dirt, and also protect the connectors. Meister Bagstr please report back after using it. I havn't had any problems with corroded connectors. Maybe because I always use compressed air to dry out all the areas that have connectors, after washing. But I'm for sure gonna check 'em all now. There is this stuff: Stabilant22. It is supposed to actually improve the conductivity of connectors. Don't know how good it is at protecting against water and corrosion.
  8. Mr. Bagstr, Did you have any dielectric grease or other type of lube on those connectors prior to servicing them this time? I've used dielectric grease in the past, but it attracted lots of dust and sand. Ended up blasting it all off with contact cleaner and running the connectors dry. I would guess the 2-26 is not as much of a dirt magnet as the grease? Wadaya think 'bout WD-40 as a dielectric lube?
  9. CJ54X and I had a great ride today out of the cul-de-sac and all over Corral Canyon. I think I attached some pics. Not much, too busy riding. It was a pleasure meeting you Ken, an it was a fun ride. Rev5 almost made it, next time. I always have fun riding that area.
  10. 7/3/14 Thursday meet at 8am on the trail at 8:30. Pine Valley Cul-De-Sac. I'm taking a vacation day this Thursday. Whoo Hooo! Going riding from Pine Valley up Kernan, Wrangler, Greenhorn, Ranger, Gun Slinger, Spur Meadow, etc. And maybe more. I would say it's an intermediate ride. Some of Kernan, Ranger, and other stuff might be tough for a beginner or a big bike. I'm planning on making it kind of a loop. Will probably end up being 30 or 40 miles, maybe a bit more. Probably about 2-3 hours. Don't forget the adventure pass.
  11. Yes still on. Good thing I checked this morning. Hope to see you there!
  12. I won a certificate for a Rekluse Clutch rebate at the Stewards of the Sequoia fund raiser a few weeks ago. I won't use it, so if anybody has recently, or will soon, purchase a Rekluse Clutch product let me know. Maybe a pm. I can mail it to you. It's for $100 off on a Core EXP, $50 for EXP auto clutch, $50 for Z-Start Pro, $50 for Core manual clutch, $30 off clutch basket, $30 off brake kit. It expires 12/1/14. Jim
  13. Chris, do you usually spend Monday night in Mesquite, or bail for home on Monday? I'm "almost" in.

    Retailers and thier donations

Thanks for the link. I'm going to book mark it this time.
  15. A little while ago someone posted a list of retailers and the orginizations they donated funds to. It listed alternatives to the retailers that are anti access. Like REI. They donate to a lot of anti access groups. I searched and searched and couldn't find the post. Can any one help me out? Thanks.

    RFS Yearly Changes

The stators were weak on all those years as far as I know. I had an '07 and it was weak. The fan would run the battery down, and the stator couldn't keep up. Replaced it with a Trail-Tech stator. It was just a little bit better. I think there was someone out there who would rewind the crummy rfs stators. Some did a mod to "float the ground" and that improved it some. Pretty sure the Starters were all good . My '07 handled really well once i got the suspension adjusted. Setting sag most importantly.
  17. Just sayin' in case you didn't know, but that breaker won't press the outside plate onto the master link. You will need one like this to press the plate on. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0070/

  20. I have this one. carry it with me while riding. I haven't had to use it on the trail, but loaned it to someone to use once. I do use it in the garage whenever I'm doing chain work. It works great. The U sheped press piece bends after a while. It's aluminum to keep it light. They sell replacement parts. I had a buddy make me a copy out of steel. It's starting to bend a bit now. Over all I would reccomend it. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0358/ I also have this one in the garage. Heavy duty and no so good or versatile for trail use. It is big and heavy. I've had it for about 100 years. http://www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0001/ Most Motion Pro stuff is very good quality.
