    Spark Tester

When I was a kid I worked in the magnetic field. It was back breaking work, and the days were long in the hot sun. I looked at it as a stepping stone and not as a career, and was able to move on to a real job years later. I learned a lot there and am thankful for the time I spent.
  2. That realization is really starting to hit home for me. I watch all the guys retiring here and getting to ride and I wonder if I'll be able to do the same one day. Seeing the process of time on a legend like Malcolm really brings to light what a mere mortal like me has in store.....
  3. Great pics! Tough seeing Malcolm on a cane; he's a stud and I just don't picture him that way

    So Happy

I remember the bike size transitioning with my son (many years ago). XR100 at 8, CRF150 at ten, YZ250F at 13 (why a Yamaha, son?!), and currently on a KX450 (why a green bike, son?!) at 27. Those early year memories are ones that you will cherish forever, Kelly; good for you both!!

    Tire deflators

Back from AZ and just seeing this; thanks all! Hope to have some time tomorrow to do some searching. CiD; have you used those on your bike as well? I hadn't thought much about it but Udo's comment about air volume and tire size has me wondering.

    Tire deflators

Trying to round out a Christmas wish list for Mrs. S. and she needs some stocking stuffer type ideas. Thoughts on tire deflators and brand/purchase location? Thanks all; Happy Thanksgiving!
  9. Interesting. Any chance you contacted the company and let them know or asked what they thought? Someone not as experienced (I am looking in the mirror!) may not have caught that....

    Tire deflators

Nothing, sticks, knees, gauges; I think I am more confused now than when I started! I'm gonna Google "use your knee to adjust tire pressure" and go look for the gauge Bagstr sent also. Road trip to AZ for Thanksgiving leaving soon (no bike going ); I will check in when I can and appreciate all the input. Happy Thanksgiving!!

    Tire deflators

I guess I see comments saying 12 pounds or 14 pounds and I can see missing 14 and ending up at 12 and not having anyway to get back up (I've been watching the pump thread also); do you think the stick is accurate enough, Udo? When I was younger I just went out and rode; now I am worried that I don't have tubes, water, fuel, proper air, enough tools, recovery devices, etc.......

    Tire deflators

Is this the one, hobiee: https://www.4wd.com/p/teraflex-ez-tire-deflator-kit-5028150/_/R-FNNT-5028150 It seems that you were using one similar on your compressor, Paul (I am trying to remember back to an old thread, and I ended up getting one of those). I see suggestions on tire pressures that folks post and am just wondering how they are getting there.

    T700 Yamaha Adventure

Still seems like a waste. They may be pre-production and need something to be "legal" but just crushing them seems wasteful. I'm no tree hugger (can I still say that?!) but don't see the reasoning on crushing.

    T700 Yamaha Adventure

I guess I just don't understand scrapping them (but I'm old and see things differently!). I get that it's a "test bike" but why not keep it and sell it as something special, if that's the case? Seems unique and I gotta think there's a market for that.

    T700 Yamaha Adventure

I don't understand that either. What's the reason?
  22. Changed the front tire on the orange bike and stripped the shoulders on the nut with my torque wrench (it is new and I never heard it click, so naturally I kept tugging 😡). Been trying to get the nut loose (new ones have been ordered-2 just in case...) and now have rounded the edges using a ViseGrip. Being a stubborn German, I will continue to cuss and swear and pull and tug until I win the battle of the stuck nut, but thought I would ask if anyone has any tips that may be a bit more delicate. I did not realize how soft that nut was until it was too late. It is the left hand side on (sitting on the bike) in case that means anything to anyone. Thank you for any suggestions. It will be days before the replacement arrives so I am not in a hurry!

That looks about right, Brian. Something tells me you are right on track with what will happen

    Stripped front axle nut-help please

If I can be comic relief I am happy to do so! Let me throw this one out (seems a little black cloud is currently following me around; I'll shake it off soon!): Went to do an oil change in my truck ('05 Duramax) today, like I've done dozens of times (220,000 miles; bought new). Tightening up the oil drain plug and it starts to spin instead of seating. Won't go in or out any farther than where it is (it's "tight" up against the oil pan but not tight enough to not leak and I can spin it by hand). Yes-I reused the old drain plug. I tried putting a vice grip on it and pulling away, hoping to get a thread to bite but no luck. I tried to wedge a screwdriver in between the oil pan and the drain plug while trying to back the drain plug out with no luck either. Can't really tell what happened (I was tightening with a standard ratchet) but it almost feels like it went in past the threads (can't quite picture that though). I have plans on taking it to my mechanic Monday morning but if anyone has another idea I still have tomorrow. I have work on Monday that I need the truck for so I would love to get it done myself and stay on track (I can easily reschedule the job if needed). Not gonna start a new thread with my latest drama, but if someone sees this and has a slick solution I appreciate it!
