  1. I have an 04 Dodge Ram Cummins with 143k on it. Bought it new and has seen the shop 2 times for recalls. It's been very good to our family. Only brakes and services done. Water pump replaced at the 100k service and I replaced belt and hoses too. It's never left us stranded although I was a nervous wreck driving it out of palm desert last Saturday when it was 117 degrees. It was fully loaded with our gear and all seats filled. It never missed a beat. The 03-07 Ram trucks with the Cummins are hard to beat. They may be still above 10k though. You could look for the Gen 2 Cummins Ram truck up to 2002. The later Gen 2 had a 24 valve

Cummins which is what mine is. Also great trucks. Probably right at the price you're looking for.

  2. I know I'm not on this site much but I've got a need for a new hydration pack and looking to see who's using what these days. I've been using a smaller sized camelbak system for many years that I've outgrown. I need the room for more water and more first aid gear. My first aid gear was pathetic, and well as I get older I get more worried About getting hurt and being stuck so the need to carry more water is necessary for my comfort level. Input and opinions appreciated.

  3. Very nice!I will look all that up!

Yes I am a musician playing upright bass. Played piano as a kid. I played in bands from 97-2009.....kind of got sick of the touring, and travelling, attitudes, blah, blah. I play mostly old blues, rockabilly, old country, old r and b. Easy stuff. I am a lazy guy who wants to have it easy.... I did a show last month and it felt great to get back out there. First time in 4 years playing live again. I hope to do more... just not as much as the old days.

I hear ya... when "musician" was my only job, not only was I poor, "normal" relationships suffered, and all I hung out with were other musicians; and the majority tended to have odd habits... socially, pharmaceutically, etc.

When it got to the point when I was sitting on my surfboard or playing ball at the gym, and I was DREADING going to play music, I knew something HAD to change.

So music (like riding) is a hobby, and if I'm not the best in a group or not even good enough for the rest of the group, it doesn't matter as much.

I still strive not to be "that guy" in music or riding, but if I am (like the other day in the desert) I don't lose sleep over it.

show up to the Wong's gig, and I'll show you the set list... pick a song to sit in with us on (but bring a bass if you have one... our bass player's axe is set up REALLY weird)

I'd love to come down and check it out. I really need to get out more, but with a 3 year old it's extremely difficult at the moment. I'll try and get over there. I'd love to meet some more SDAR members other than Yeti. He's boring....lol. (I do love Yeti, btw).

I hear ya on being that guy. I don't much care either in music or riding. I know I am mediocre at best in both worlds. I don't have anything to prove and just kind of do what I like I guess. My hauling ass days and crashing in both worlds are over.

  5. Those 230s are excellent bikes. I have a buddy who used to have one (he rode it into the ground), and he would do better than all of us on the hard stuff for sure. I rode it through similar terrain as in your pics and the anxiety level of riding through it on the 230 was nil compared to the level I felt riding through the rough on the KTM. Maybe I shouldn't be riding a KTM?? It's the small stature I am sure that keeps the anxiety at bay.

Great pictures.. and what a rough road!

X 2 It's an unfair advantage on technical trails,

even riding 17 pounds front and rear.

I read an article that stated "CRF 230 F" makes a $10,000.00 enduro bike seem like a waste of money.

Time to get some trials tires, heavy duty tubes, lights and a plate!

    Craig.

I believe that article after riding one. And they aren't all that shabby on the trails and washes, either. I was impressed.

  7. we are the people of the state of California and citizens of the USA this is our land, if some ------- federal clown tells me I cant go into my and your park,,, they will need to shoot me in the back unarmed as I ride past them on my motorcycle. now you all know how i really feel about all this BS. I will be riding on our federal land this week and weekend. this whole government left and right needs to flushed down a latrine.

congress has a 10% approval ratings. I guess they are trying for 0.

I think they achieved that this week, for sure. :king:

  8. Thanks so much for the info! I will come out on a ride. I look everyday for postings and my schedule seems to never coordinate with what's happening. I go out alone often, and have been exploring the Santa Ysabel TT area lately. I am new to riding the dualsport roads around San Diego county. It's hard to find out where everyone goes....

When's the next outing on the KLR? Maybe we can hook up for a put..... I'll take the GS.
