    Cell Phones & Cancer

Sorry but this is alarmist BS. It pretty much comes down to statistics being something that can be manipulated to suit your own purposes... The World Health Organization has found “To date, no adverse health effects have been established as being caused by mobile phone use.” The WHO also has listed in the 2B classification coffee, carpentry and pickled vegetables. "The largest retrospective case-control study to date on adults, Interphone, coordinated by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), was designed to determine whether there are links between use of mobile phones and head and neck cancers in adults. The international pooled analysis of data gathered from 13 participating countries found no increased risk of glioma or meningioma with mobile phone use of more than 10 years. There are some indications of an increased risk of glioma for those who reported the highest 10% of cumulative hours of cell phone use, although there was no consistent trend of increasing risk with greater duration of use. The researchers concluded that biases and errors limit the strength of these conclusions and prevent a causal interpretation." WHO "A major decade-long international study concludes that, overall, cell-phone users show no increased risk of developing brain tumors. The same study reports that among people who have used cell phones the most and longest — for at least 10 years and on average 30 minutes or more a day — risk of brain tumors is substantially elevated when compared to people who don’t use cell phones. But the real enigma: For people in each of the lower cell-phone-use categories, tumor risks were substantially lower than those seen in people who used regular, corded phones. In other words, for most people cell-phone use appeared to protect against brain tumors... Explains Interphone researcher Siegal Sadetzki, a public health physician at Tel Aviv University’s Sackler School of Medicine, “If you look at the overall evidence, this study did not confirm or dismiss the possible association between cell phones and brain tumors. That’s the bottom line.” " Science News So if you are to believe the Interphone study... to protect against Glioma's you should use your cell phone but just use it less than 30 minutes per day! (this is probably just a incorrect finding as well as the increased risk of Glioma's for heavy users) And now even later reaserch with a huge group and longer time period Danish study shows no link. It is unknown if mobile phones present a cancer risk, the causal link that Magda Havas thinks there is, is not supported by the WHO or the authors of the study he cites as evidence. If one should worry about radiation, I would think the use of sun screen would be the most pertinent action as solar radiation is listed in the highest classification as a cancer causing agents.

    Oh Boy...what bike to get

I have never seen a cop at the track, well I ride the track with a cop "Jake#48" I have a few customers with Oregon plates. Why would you need a plate at the track?

    Oh Boy...what bike to get

But legally you are not fully clear with an AZ plate for long term use. Now if it could be CA plated... but the 7500 miles thing for transfer seems to only be valid for bikes with an emission sticker(or something similar) which a 2 stroke will not have. So the AZ plate will not be a problem even with your license being from CA?

    Smaller Bore

Yeah... I felt really uncomfortable on the KTM 300 in the technical stuff at first. Now I much prefer the 300.

Wait... the 450F does not like technical? It must be quite a bit lighter than the DRZ no?

  9. I would do it again... but I am busy at the present time.
  10. Have you ever done the lower part of Rincon, below the road crossing? It is a good bit harder than the middle section and the trail up to Kennedy meadows. I have not done the last leg of it so cannot comment on that.

    Rooting a Driod X

The RF front end for phone signals in your droid X is the AFEM-7758-AF1. The chip only supports, Operating Frequencys: Tx: 1850~1910 MHz Rx: 1930~1990 MHz The wifi/bluetooth/FM chip in your droid X is the TI WL1271A WLAN/BT/FM operating frequency: 2.4 Ghz for WIFI and bluetooth FM refers to radio stations 88-108 Mhz. The range of this would be limited and not support anything more than shouting distance for Tx. The documentation on this device is lacking but similar devices support only 0 dbm power which is 1 milli watt, 1/1000 of a watt, compare this to wifi which would be about 1-2 watt. It is doubtful it supports any other frequencies anyways. What is the name of the App?

    Rooting a Driod X

I bet that IOS has some apps that allow for offline maps, I know Android does. For those with Android phone who are interested(You can buy used Android phones for less than $100 that can do all this with no Phone plan but use wifi for downloads) Android phones have access to a great application called, Locus (free or pro version). Which actually allows you to pre download map imagery from a multitude of sources (google, osm, mapquest, yahoo, bing, my topo, ovi, and more) and types(hybrid, sat, street, topo) or even vector maps(for lower data storage), for use with no data connection. You can also download imagery along a predefined track and has guiding navigation ability(not tested by me). Data types GPX, KML, and LOC files and POI handling. Just a note- no root needed. I must say I am a little bit skeptical of using a cell phone(specifically a Droid) on ham radio bands... repeater frequencies are generally: two meter (144 - 148 MHz), 220 MHz band (222-224 MHz) and the UHF 70 centimeter (420 - 450 MHz) bands. None of these are anywhere near the frequencies used by mobile phones. Maybe you have seen apps that communicate with a base stations over the data connection thus controlling a ham radio but not a phone used independently as a ham radio. It is possible but I cannot imagine with a consumer phone like your Droid X. Please link to the app, I would like to use it if it is real!

What apps are they? I am having trouble thinking why it would be all that valuable to have root for tools for riding?

  15. In Google Chrome the problem is not present. tried Firefox and it is also fine. dusted off IE9 and found to have the same issue as you! If you are feeling like trying new things I would give Chrome a shot.
  16. Well look at that... I stand corrected. Thank you!
  17. Just a guess but if you turn the headlight off when the fan would be on i cannot see it being an issue. Fans are probably not needed at night.

    Craigslist Stories

I inquired about a trials bike one time last year and the lady told me that somebody was scheduled to see it at 9:30 that morning but if I could get there before the other person arrived and I liked it, that she'd sell it to me. I couldn't get there before the other person, and really would have felt a little bad for the other person anyway if I could have beat them there. It's not fair to make somebody believe that they have a guaranteed appointment to purchase something...then they arrive to find that it was already sold. and for me... if somebody is going to do that then are they being honest about the condition and care of the product? My guess is probably not!

    Craigslist Stories

Well... I was looking at a plated 300 and was the first person to call about an hour after it was posted. Asked the seller what time would be convenient for him and we were set to meet the next day. Next day I get a message that it had sold. Apparently somebody else called him after me and set up a meeting that night and bought it. I would have come earlier but made the mistake of asking for a time that was convenient for him.
