The Apache Trail is real nice. A friend and I rode it this past Monday morning heading West and saw 2 riders one on an AT and not sure of the other bike going East. Could that have been you? -

Zubb, Nice job on the video! Did you you shoot that with your phone? Wayne -
I've been following post about this bike on ADVrider and Africantwinforum.com. Thinking seriously about buying one but waiting till the EICMA show this November to see if they make any worthwhile upgrades. My view on the issues that people are having isn't whether or not they are real but rather what % of the bikes have the issues and what are my chances of ending up with a problem bike.

Even though Mission Trails isn’t open to motorcycles a lot of you may Mountain Bike, hike or run in the park. a large amount of the good single track has been closed or is in the process of being closed down. This Saturday there is a mass protest ride to hopefully draw media attention to the situation and encourage the City and other agencies to work on a plan to keep the current single track open or allow new single track to be built to replace trails that need to be closed. The more people who show up the better the chance of making a difference. If you care you'll be there! Hey Bob, Figured you were joking around and I remember a couple years ago reading some of your post where you guys rode together so I knew you were friends. I’ve never met Wil but I knew he was into “extreme Mountain Biking” (he had posted some of his rides) and that he had done the Rampage last year. Not just anyone can get into a Rad Bull event and Wil is not only in but they did a special segment on him. Damn impressive! Hope he does well!

Steve, I also saw you last Tuesday or Thursday leaving the Chevron by North County Fair in your orange truck a bit after 4:00 PM. I tried to honk but my horn didn’t work. Wayne -
Hey Everybody, We’re back! KLRoger and I just returned from a 2 week trip out to the Westfest event in Buena Vista Colorado and all around Utah and Arizona. The Westfest is a yearly Adventure bike / Duel sport rally put on by folks at the ADVrider site. http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread....hlight=westfest C Daddy originally had planned this trip and would have been our leader and put together the route. When he couldn’t make it I put together a route and crossed my fingers it would be doable on the big 950 KTMs we were riding. I had planned on posting to the site every couple of days to report our progress but had some technical issues and couldn’t access the site or send e mails. It will take a number of post to complete the report. Here’s the start. Saturday AM July 25: Roger and I head for Page AZ with the bikes in his truck. I take over driving outside Vegas and don’t do well with his clutch. I try to convince Roger I know how to drive a Std. tranny. Turns out his clutch is shot. The plan was to park at Zenosans place in Page. By the time we got there the clutch was completely shot. We gave Don a call and he said he would be in Page in a day or so and take the truck to a garage. Big load off Rogers mind. Thanks Don. About Noon Sunday we were off on the bikes heading West on the 89 to Cottonwood Canyon This should have been about 46 miles of dirt going North to the 12 in Utah. about 25 miles up the trail after stopping to let the rain stop we came to a mud section we could not ride around. We back tracked to the 89 went through Kanab headed North on the 89 and stopped at a KOA for the night. While planning the trip and searching the internet I had come across a site by GPSkevin. He had pictures and stories of cool looking rides. I e mailed him about some loops he had posted that ran through Bryce Canyon and the Dixie Nat’l Forest. He sent back some recommendations for Big bike worthy trails. Following GPSkevins tracks we jumped on dirt at Hatch UT. This should have been about 100 miles of dirt with a small amount of pavement mixed in. At 1 point I went left instead right and we ended up above the tree line at the Cedar Breaks Nat’l Mon. Some mistakes are good. Back on track we continued on dirt through parts of Bryce Canyon. Very cool through here and nice to see it from the inside. Jumping back on Hwy 12 we headed to Escalante and turned North and rode dirt for about 38 miles through Hells Back Bone. Really nice through here and an interesting historic Bridge. We end up riding in the dark (on pavement) and stopping in Torry near the 12 and the 24. I spot about 12 deer. 9 separate sightings in about 30 miles. I know where I want to go hunting. So far no excitement but really great riding and scenery. I hope the photos add some life to the story. http://picasaweb.google.com/Adventuredude80/WestfestPart1# The pictures are a mix of both Rogers and my photos. Between us we took over 1400 photos: Wayne

Dog-TAT-stic 4,000 miles
humptythumty replied to piratemonkey's topic in 4 Days & Longer Trip Write-Ups and Photos
Brian, Bikes worked awesome. Not a single problem. No flats, nothing came lose (these bikes don’t vibrate) and outside of tires nothing wore out. The mounting straps on our left side saddle bags ripped off. Easy thing to fix even on the trail and technically not a “bike issue”. As for missing my big bike, if you mean my 950, it’s for sale. Probably don’t need to say more then that. Wayne -
Dog-TAT-stic 4,000 miles
humptythumty replied to piratemonkey's topic in 4 Days & Longer Trip Write-Ups and Photos
Lori, Yes, we were happy with our bike choice and if we were to do a similar ride would use the DRZs again. There were definitely times when it would have been nice to be on a big bike but over all and especially when the going got tough I was glad to be on a smaller machine. We packed a lot of gear and the weight added up. It did make riding the harder sections (there weren’t many) very hard and it caused a number of “tip overs” that wouldn’t have happened if our load was lighter. That being said, we did use everything we brought and I’ve put a lot of thought into how we could have packed lighter with out coming up with any good answers. Everyone has their own ideas on what is important to bring on a trip. 25 days and over 4,000 miles.... This was going to be a long trip and our idea was to be over prepared for any type of weather, mechanical failure or situation. We carried a lap top which we used often. Over 3 pounds of maps which were very handy, useful and needed. Each of us carried an extra gallon of gas (never needed but nice to know it was there) and a fair amount of water. We had a good amount of first aid gear, an extensive tool kit and a very complete spare part kit. All this in addition to spare cloths and camping gear. Lets try to talk at the next SDAR meeting. Hope you 2 are able to to get out on an extended trip, the longer the better. Wayne
