  1. Thanks for the tip - I'm riding the KLR down so I wasn't thinking about staging areas Everyone, we'll meet at the north end of the Minnewawa TT, where it hits Otay Lakes Road at 10am. Google Map: http://tinyurl.com/2gwlbp I have ridden there with other riders on green sticker bikes, quads, three wheelers, you name it. They just can't go off the trail and on to any connecting roads.
  2. Pretty sure I can get out to Superstition on Monday, will look for you guys out there.

    Corral Canyon

I'm working Friday tomorrow is the only day I can ride
  4. Good write up and nice pics. Let me know if you hit Superstition again anytime soon, would love to get your ol DR in the sand! I love the sand, fall over, bike doesn't get beat up and neither do I for the most part.

    Corral Canyon

I'd be up for a run at CC. It was nice to get back to those formerly unopened areas. Got to hit a couple of black diamond trails with XRBUM and want more. Around 9 ish tomorrow at 4 corners sounds good to me.

    December 23rd Ride!

If you guys are still meeting at the TT campground around 0830, I'd like to tag along. Grant
  7. Great write up Tom. That DR 435 is awesome, good looking etc...couple years practice on it and I may even be able to keep up with you and Bob. I was amazed at how warm it got up at CC, didn't expect that. The riding was excellent! Good to be back on some rocky technical stuff. Was having such a good time, I too forgot to take any pics. Got to get as much riding in as we can now before we are haze grey and underway!

    DESERT DASH

I'm so there. Be there on my new DR 435, that's tntmo's old DR 435. Can't wait, have not done the Desert Dash and hear it is one of the best rides around.
  9. I'll be there!! Have not done CC for a while, itching to get back there. Should be nice with no dust and a little different scenery after all the wet stuff. A couple years back after some good rains there were plenty of stream crossings and fun to be had.
  10. Yep, holidays should free up some time, I start 2 weeks vacation tomorrow. Check for tntmo's post to Corral Canyon going down early this Sunday. CC is a hoot especially if there is snow/ice around. Tons of it is good for big bikes too. Does have some good technical single track I'd skip on a big bike. I plan on being there Sunday am, but on a small bike. Just thought I'd put this up here as a reasonably close and nice hardpack ride.
  11. Can't do it Sat bro, got family time stuff to do. If you end up going Sun I can roll. Check out our truck trail ride write up if you are looking for a nice big bike ride that is close.
  12. Awesome write up and great pics! Got ta second SCHWINN, a weekend ride with a bunch of SDAR's down in Mexico would be sweet. For folks like me who don't ride south of the border much, it's probably one of the few times I'd feel comfortable going down there.
  13. couple more shots of Tom tearing up a steep canyon.
  14. Tom, EPIC ride...how do you always find your way?? Good stuff, thanks again. Strom takes a bit of muscle to handle, but I take it slow, Tom was always at least 3 corners ahead of me. Did manage to take on some serious rocks, a little mud and a couple of water crossings. Great stuff, this "cold" may turn out to be a chronic condition. Grant
  15. How many supermoto rides have you read about that talk about crashes,on my ride we were on closed roads in the snow sliding every corner of course someone going to fall. Every ride is not ALL KILLER NO FILLER And some one crashes on every ride this club goes on even your little loop in sanmarcos that 1 person showed up for on sunday HIJACK OFF. I'm in Tom, little sprinkling of rain, but should clear up. Just need a little 2 wheel adventure to knock this "cold" out.
  16. I probably can't go this weekend because I'm doing a toys for tots type Moto Guzzi Charity ride on Saturday and da wife won't be keen on me leaving her with a four year-old and two year-old twins for two days in a row. But I have the last week of December and the first week of January off (perks of being a teacher) and want to explore down there some more. I'll be watching here for rides or posting another of my own. I believe tom tntmo and I will be calling in sick tomorrow and may hit up the truck trail area. Damn flu going around you know. I'll check here or send me a msg to see if others come down with a bug too. Riding bug that is.
  17. The road just past the Mexican place to the north had a gate up and some obstructions the last few times I went up. I take a right on the restaurant road then a quick left to get on the truck trail then head on up. Probably have great food at that little joint too. Now you have me all worked up to head out there again. Last time there I took a left at the restaurant before the trail starts you go down and end up past the jails and on to where the new freeway is. Nice wide open fast trails all over the place there. Even hit a big water crossing before the rains. Some tricky spots for a big bike, prolly would not try it in the mud. Boarder patrol and police don't bother bikes there either, just watch out when they are shooting at the police range out there! Sweet adventure riding though, we'll hit it up soon.
  18. there is a ton of good riding around there. the Mexican place on Alta is where I start too. Depending on which gates are open, you can go for quite a way. The altitude and scenery changes are sweet. Check out some side trails up off the main trail too. Even at the base of the trail there is good riding. Boarder patrol and the police have never even pulled me over on my bike. Now in my 4x4 they pull me over all the time and do the whole routine. No big deal. On a bike they don't even look at me twice, I just speed by and wave. Next weekend weather looks good. If I shoot up in that area or head out with Tom tntmo, I'll give you a shout. That is one of my favorite places to ride and is so close.
  19. Conflict of schedule lat min. Can't go.

    Another "new" bike

I ride a 400+ pound V-Strom offroad with the stock trailwings on it. Really tricky in the sand, so I stick to hardpack. tntmo and some other sdar's went on an awesome 50/50 ride a while back. I don't know all the street/dirt road names, but we met up at the Carls Jr on I-8 and Tavern then took Alpine Valley exit to dirt to engineers then onward. I do this ride and the Otay Truck trail at least once a month, they are perfect for big bikes. There is a good write up & pics on it under Otay I think. If we, or I shoot out there again soon, I'll drop you a note. Grant
  21. may be this am, we are still trying to get an idea of the weather.
  22. I love the Otay Truck Trail, probably ride it at least once a month, nice hardpack for the big bikes and good elevation changes. Very dangerous with no guard rails, had a kid behind me once shoot off and break his back. 19 and paralized tntmo and I may be doing the border fence line run with some supermoto from Tecate on east. If I don't do that I'll get with you and do this ride. Also, let me know if you want to shoot out with us, prolly meet out at Tom's place in Lemon Grove in the am. These rides starting at noon and taking up the whole Sunday are no good for me. I'm on a Strom 650 and he's on a DR 435 for now.

    Your Personal Bike Photos

My current ride, a depature from the thumpers. Going where no Strom with Trailwings belongs, into Canyon Sin Nombre's sandy bottom.

    S-2 Exploration

I did make it out Canyon Sin Nombre Sunday and many of the other trails out there. Never was able to hook up with anyone else. Pretty tricky in the sand in Sin Nombre with a Strom and trailwings on. Would like to do some long touring on hardpack sometime in the future, let me know if you guys are up for it. TNTMOTO's Otay TT is an awesome ride and provides lots of hardpack and twisties. It's perfect for the big bikes (any dual sport really). G
  25. bagstr, I can shoot down on Sun. and meet up with you guys or if you are heading out to the S2 again on Sunday, meet up along the way at a place like the Carls Jr off Tavern rd and I8. or even down at the I8 S2 junction. Then once down there meet up with Captcham and anyone else in the area. Did some trails down there in a 4x4 like Canyon Sin Nombre, remember some sandy spots, but plenty of hardpack too. G
