    Quick route to OW.

Argmister, I wanted to attach a track that goes from Dump Road to Blow Sand using Borrego Sink Wash and San Felipe. It is thru the desert park so you will need to street legal. Unfortuately it is now uploading. Check PM.
  2. Very well equipped A question, what's a magnet wand? You might want to add toliet paper for comfort (I've used my shop rag, not good) REI has a 12-hour hand heat warmer. Works good. I've used it several times, especially if your gloves get wet. Also REI has a whistle, signal mirror, compass & match holder combo that I carry in my pack. It's quite durable, compact and keeps the matches dry. It also comes with a 2-3 foot polypropylene lanyard/rope. Happy trails, Steve...

    Quick route to OW.

It is not well marked the way I go . I usually go in by the dump. If you have a GPS I could come up with a track. All the washes in the area should run into San Felipe, as long as you keep going down hill, I don't see how you can go wrong. There is a wash the highway goes over after you make the 90 degree turn past the Borrego Springs airport. That wash is probably marked San Felipe. but I haven't gone that way before. You might want to try this track. As Ken say it starts from the dump and goes to Blowsands.

    Ram Mount

I agree with Ken, locally to find the cradle, motorcycle U-bolt and arm is a long-shot. REI in Carlsbad possibly, but please call first. I use GPSCity. Competitive product pricing, shipping and they fill the orders the same day. http://www.gpscity.com/rammounts

    KTM Major Motor Repair

Ron, Sorry to here this, but do not beat yourself up. The bearing had an early-life failure. Also you did not know the maintenance schedule from the previous owner. When the failure occurred you were 10 miles from the nearest road and 75 miles from your truck. Pushing or towing it was not an option, due to the deep sand.

    Garmin GPS60CSx under $300

City Nav is the only one I'd "buy".......older/out dated/unmaintained/"no unlock code required" versions of Roads/Rec and western states topo are available if you look around/network.... Chris, If you have the City Select(which is included with the GPS), is it necessary to get the City Nav?

    Garmin GPS60CSx under $300

Hi Ken I bought mine last year on Amazon for around $260. Might be worth shopping around. Don't tell Roger but I actually have two more GPS's, one in my boat and one in my Jeep in Page. He likes to think I only use a sextant. Don Don, Have a few Garmin's myself, but only a single Astrolabe. http://www.astrolabes.org/

  11. Start in Barstow to Randsburg to Ridgecrest, then back the next day. Leave Sunday morning 11/22 for a short, local, easy/warm-up ride planned (about 40 miles) thru Afton Canyon. If you can't make it for Sunday meet us Monday. Monday & Tuesday (11/23 & 11/24): This is a fun ride. Not hard, open desert type riding. Small amounts of whoops and sand, mostly hard-pack. It will not beat you up. It's 133.4 miles the first day & 123.6 miles the 2nd day. We will use some of the 2007 Barstow to Vegas route & some of Crawdaddy's X-plane route. The high country and trails out of Ridgecrest have single trac mixed in. All the tracs are done. Gas isn't an issue, about 80 miles max. Let me know who's in? If you are interested reserve rooms in Barstow & Ridgecrest. Let me know your availability. I’ve got a KMZ file of the route. Come closer I’ll print maps & GPS down loads. We will walk thru this man-made tunnel. It took the guy 27 years to dig. Bring a flashlight. This is amazing. Check out this website. http://www.burroschmidttunnel.org/index.html We will tour a X-15 crash site: http://area51specialprojects.com/adams_x-15_crash.html We will tour a X-70 crash site: http://www.area51specialprojects.com/xb70_crash.html We will go thru Rainbow Canyon: http://www.desertusa.com/mag02/may/rainbow.html We will eat/gas at Randsburg (the famous Whitehouse Saloon, good food): http://www.dirtrider.com/features/141_0406...burg/index.html
  12. Planning a planning meeting Thursday. Check PM for details, Steve...
  13. Ken & others, I know alot has been said about lighting. Ken your recommendation on LED was taken. I tried the new Acerbis LED and returned it for the following: 1. It did not fit properly(to small) it did not cover the key switch, horn & stock KTM dispaly panel 2. The quality of light (although it was bright straight on) was poor as it did not flood the area. I suspect the pencil beam was fine, but the flood beam was inadequate and the 20 auxiliary lights were useless. The light seems more useful for street, super motard applications, not off-road. 3. Ugly, Ugly, Ugly. 4. On the positive side it was cheap($129), but for my money I'd rather go with the Baja Designs 60 watt halogen(have on my DRZ) Overall LED is the future, we just might have to wait for better engineered products. So I ended up with the KTM X2. (It's made by Trail-Tech for KTM). It has all the OEM connectors, so it's a plug & play and uses the OEM switches. It also has the nearly the same shape as the stock light. It's $270, which is a good price for a 2 lamp HID, but $200 more than a Halogen. Based on my limited experience, Trail-Tech is going to sell a lot of these for all models.
  14. Ken/Tracy/Zenosan Will try to make this memorable and take pictures. I have some single track in the mountains (50 miles past Ridgecrest) from I ride I did with the BBTR a few years back that I integrated into the route. Will make it interesting. Intermediate ride, with bailouts. Leaving on a Sunday is difficult and returning on Tuesday, but right now I have 3 signed up. Looking for a 4th.

    Thanksgiving 2009

Will be in Big Bear 24th and 25th. :beach: interesting, VERY interesting. I'll be in Big Bear also. I'm also bringing a bike. Have an 80 mile loop planned, lots of single track.
  16. Has anybody considered an LED front headlight approach or have experience with? Efficiency, light output and durability seem to match an HID at a lower cost and will not need an upgraded stator(only 20W, compared to the current 35W incandescent). I am currently running a rear LED from SICASS racing, with no issues. See Acerbis new offering. But non-DOT. http://www.chaparral-racing.com/Chaparral/...FA33A154BA89876

    BarkBusters / HandGuards

It sounds like your goal is to protect the levers in the event of a fall. You might want to try this: 1. Loosen the perch bolts so they turn in the event of a fall 2. Place teflon tape around the handle bars(friction reduction) 3. You can purchase after market perches, which have an integrated plastic/teflon bushing that will turn the perch when falling or (use #2 above will save you $) 4. Change your control levers to the spring-loaded "unbreakable type". They are expensive, never used them, the basic Paul Flanders replacement type are just fine for me.

    KTM blinkers

You might want to try Sicass Racing. http://www.sicassracing.com/cgi-bin/shoppi...p;ppinc=search2 Universal flush mount Ultra Brite LED turn signals They are available with the connectors for 07-09 KTM EXC's for $5. Click on the link for a picture mounted on an EXC450. They are expensive @ $43 with the connectors, but they are bright

Disk Fins - For Orange Bikes

Protecting your bike makes your riding experience more enjoyable & safer. Scotts makes them for the rear. Expensive at $139 retail, but I suppose a new disk is alot more. "It is the only fin that incorporates the brake caliper carrier as an integral part of the function. This means the axle passes throught the shark fin making it virtually indestructable and your brake rotor protected from defeat. This design is 10 times stronger than the "Bolt-On" type fins and it's a beautiful piece of work. " I personally do not have one, but one day I may regret it. http://www.scottsperformance.com/products....=2&Bike=Ktm
  20. Let's face it the stock headlight on my KTM is useless for night time riding. I intend to order a TrailTech replacement stator kit to increase the charging systems capacity(for the battery, fan, lights, GPS, maybe someday grip heaters?) and convert the lighting circuit to DC. The headlight is currently a 35W incandescent "stock" system, that has to go. I have been reviewing Halogen lighting systems. They are: TrailTech, X2, 70W Halogen, $79, advantages: comes with bike specific connector Acerbis, Cyclops, 55W Halogen, $129 Acerbis, Dimension, 35W Halogen, $120 Baja Designs, Headlight, 60W Halogen, $99, advantages: can upgrade bulb to higher wattage/local in San Marcos UFO & Polisport might have similar offerings but hard-to-find? Any comments as to the function or durability of these above? Am I missing anything?
  21. Thanks Ken, Do you have the LED? My intent is not to ride purposely at night, but more of a back-up in-case I get in late after a long ride. I have a Sicass LED for my rear light and am quite impressed with the brightness. So far the durability has been good, no issues. I will investigate the LED further. Paul, since I might be riding at night on the road, I am concerned about the DOT legalities. The HID's are just to bright, only for off-road use. Also my intent is also to permanetly leave the light on the bike. The LED seems like a good compromise.

    Paiute Trail

Try some of these websites for information: Resource to buy the Topo maps and other general information: http://www.atvutah.com/catalog/product_inf...;products_id=89 Excellent website describing the entire Utah trail system: http://www.atvutah.com/trails.htm Marysvale, one of the small towns along the trail system: http://www.marysvale.org/paiute_trail/atv6.html Jorgensen's, a local Yamaha dealer in Richfield. I called and spoke to them about the trail system. Very helpful. http://www.jhsport.com/
  23. If you have never ridden at night it's a difference experience. The shadows makes everything look different. It will be cool in the mid-60's to start and then drop to a refreshing 52F past midnight. Bring a jacket. It will be the best place to ride. Bring an extra headlight bulb, helmet lights and flashlight with your tools. It's not a difficult or technical ride, the fun is the experience of the night ride. It's 120 miles, but shorter if needed.
