  1. Wierdrider, No worries. We got all the time in the world for another one.

    Gate #1, WIIIDE OPEN!
It was here that I realized that I still had the liner in my jacket, it wasn't too bad out. ADV Bum was right, lots of slick sand so it was slow slow going. I had never been up here before so i didn't quite know what to expect. I love it, def lots of spots to camp.

    Gate #2, Ajar!
This was the gate that leads to the Rose Quarz Mine. I walked up a few feet and thought i'd just head up, but it was a tad more dicey than the main trail and my eyes have a tenancy to over estimate my actual ability. I'm sure it wouldn't have been a big deal but I'd rather head back with company. It was starting to really heat up and I took this opportunity to get some water in me. No sign of any other humans at this point.

Gate #3, End of the line.
I'd find out later that This gate is only a few hundred feet away from Mesa Truck Trail. I didn't check to see if it was locked, but it appeared to be easily passable. Curious as to why it would be shut off from the joining TT.. hmmm.
I was really starting to boil in my suit. As I got off the bike, all the sweat that had been pooling in my jackets elbows flowed out like Franzia.  Still no sign of other humans.

On the way back I got a good look at the mine trail. seemed really doable. One thing that I liked about this trail was toward the low end when you hit the riverbed, for lack of a better term, the sand is very glassy. The sun was so bright and reflecting off the ground, pretty neat.

By the time I got back to Pamo, all my plans of looping through upper Santa Ysabel truck trail and monkeying around were thrown out the window. Spending about an hour and a half zipped up in that suit in the heat and sun was starting to get to me. I hit up AM/PM, re-hydrated, and went home. Today was my first day with my new Corbin seat. What a drastic improvement over stock.
In the end, short adventure but a big learning experience. Stay out of the heat. I was DRENCHED. I hope my gear doesn't retain any funk.

Anyway. Thanks for all the advice guys. I look forward to tagging along some day soon. And again, Thank you for whoever is responsible for this sub-forum. I took comfort in knowing if I didn't report back, that some knowledgeable folks would have the scoop on my whereabouts.

  2. According to THIS Lusardi truck trail is open, Going to head up Wednesday late morning on the DR650 and try to find Patton Lode Rose Quartz Mine. The weather is forecast to top at 74f.
I have about 6 months experience on dirt, and while I feel I have confidence now, I know when to turn back while solo. With that said, I'd rather not go solo if some folks with levels head wants to meet up. I've still got a lot to learn.
As any good adventurer, I'll be at the Ramona Starbucks at 10am if anyone wants to meet up. Newbs too, lets get our dirt hours in.
If for some reason the gate is closed when we get there, we can hit 12S07, Black Mountain TT, or the plethora of other trails up there
Anyway, I'll keep this thread updated. It was a fantastic idea to implement this subforum.
