  1. Any shops around that do dynamic balancing, preferably in North County? I'm getting a front vibe around 20-30 mph that I haven't been able to get rid of. Tire is a TKC80, well used but still plenty of life left. I took it off and emptied the dyna beads it had in the tube (from previous owner), remounted, and static balanced it. Still get the vibe. Thought I would try dynamic balancing it before I just get a new tire. Bike is a f800gs.

    Dynamic balancing

Turned out the vibration was caused by a very loose floating rotor with a lot of slop between the buttons. I swapped in another pair of rotors and the vibes went away.
  3. Excellent write up! I really enjoyed that!
  4. Thanks for the great trip, had a blast opening it up (ha, at least for me!) on those long sandy stretches! Eureka Peak Mt. San Jacinto in the background Starting the climb up Old Dale Road, after the sandy sections...our turn around point to head back for the other half of the group.
  5. Looks like I'll be leaving first thing Sat morning ~6am or so. If anyone else in the same boat, let me know so we can ride out together. sdspearo- I am in Escondido and also planing to leave around 6 AM --- Where are you at ??? I live in Encinitas. How about we meet up in Escondido 6:30 latest?

    Dynamic balancing

Well I measured out of roundness at approx. .04" and side-side at .07" per dial indicator. I doubt the .04" is causing the vibration I'm feeling. I'm not gonna try and straighten since apparently these rims are known for bending easily and it'll probably get rebent first day back on the trail. Looking at it again I'm thinking one of the floating rotors is the main culprit since it has alot more radial slop than the other one. BTW I called around and couldn't find a shop that does dynamic balancing.

    Dynamic balancing

Pretty sure I checked for "out of roundness" when I static balanced it, but now that you mention it, I'll check again.
  10. Sounds good, count me in for the three days.
  11. I was about to reply "I'm in!" but then my wife reminded me I'm touring a college campus with my son that Saturday. Oh well, next time.

The Enduro Shop meet and greet Saturday

I bought helmet and boots from them and at the time they gave an additional 10% off...wound up cheaper than internet prices. Need to head back over and pick up a Wolfman tank bag.

    Golden tire Gt216AA

I read somewhere that you can run really low psi on this tire, which means stiff sidewall, right? How difficult are trail side flat repairs with this tire?
  15. Can't swing this, I'm out
  16. Not definite yet, but I'm going to try and make this.

    Veys Powersports now open

Not to date myself, but I used to go to Vey's back in the late 70's/early 80's when I had a Can-Am 175 in high school. Remember one time I needed a carb part and he didn't have it in stock. He did have a BRAND NEW bike on the show room floor so he told me to take the part from it and he would replace it when it came in (I forget exactly what part it was)...talk about customer service.
  18. Ditto, except I'd skip LA Bay and spend an extra day in Cabo Pulmo or Los Barriles if the diving or fishing is especially good. I've been thinking about a similar trip this fall and I'd be taking the F800GS, the only bike I have.
  19. Thanks for the ride everyone. Great weather, not too hot, no major carnage, good times!
  20. May have to reroute due to fire off of Palomar Divide Rd. Forest service says... Cleveland NF @ClevelandNF #CutcaFire now 75-100 acres, helicopters will be flying handcrews to the fire. 6:43 PM - 24 Jul 2015
  21. Uh, scratch that...spoke too soon...I can make this after all.
  22. Crap, I'm out too...last minute work commitment.
  23. 90% sure I can make this. I have a Yaesu dual band HT but not sure how useful it'll be since I don't have a headset.
