  1. Planning to head North out of Ramona Sunday 7/24 at 0800. There will be dirt ... slab ... more dirt ... more slab ... and fun ... lotsa fun ... well, at least a little fun ... if you like riding easy dirt out in the sticks. And it will be warm ... but you probably won't melt or anything. So ... North through the forest to Mesa Grande ... slab to Warner Springs ... dirt-ish to chee-wa-wa. Can loop back there or continue to Anza on dirt. Slab back. 3-4 hours or so. Intermediate pace... think turtle ... like a really quick turtle that keeps going but isn't all that fast. Big and little bikes can do this. Post or PM if interested.
  2. Thinking about a similar ride in the morning, Friday 7/29, if anyone is interested. Need to be back in the 12-1p time frame... or sooner. Post/reply if interested.
  3. Just rode Santa Ysabel between Pamo and Black Canyon. All three gates are open.
  4. I've been running tubliss front and rear on 2 bikes for 5-6 years. That's close to 400 hours on those two bikes. Never run more than 10 psi, even for dez races in the rocks of Johnson Valley and Barstow. I have had two of the front high pressure tubes split on the rim tape just because they could with low time on them... both times under benign riding conditions... that means you're done. I have also had the front high pressure tubes go 100 hours before switching them out. Go figure. Bent a front rim bad enough once that it wouldn't hold air. Never had a problem with the rears. Now run a front mousse and rear tubliss for dez races, front and rear tubliss otherwise. If you choose to dualsport with tubliss be aware that blowing a high pressure tube may lead to unseating the bead and an instant loss of tire pressure.
  5. Just want to get out and log some miles at a good pace. North through the forest, Mesa Grande to 76, Grapevine/Culp/Jasper/etc. That's 110 or so. Option to take it further east and stay north of 78 for more miles. Probably double back on some of the dirt, just cuz dirt is preferred. I'll be carrying water/calories and prefer minimum stops. Maybe a trailside eat stop and quick breaks as needed. Weather looks really good for tomorrow; cool and sunny. 110 mile route takes less than 3 hours if we keep it moving. Intermediate pace ride. All the dirt on this route is rollable and doable by competent big bikes. Several miles of sugar at the lower stretch of grapevine. If interested post here or PM. Show up with food/water, tools, spares and a bike in good shape ... the usual stuff. Probably need a minimum range of 100 miles. Brian
  6. Just figured out I can fit in a ride out of Ramona late morning Friday 7/3. I plan on starting at 1100, N on the forest dirt for an hour or so, Black Canyon/ Mesa Grande, head over to Ranchita to pick up Culp and Grapevine. Back up 78/Wynola to Ramona. Intermediate pace, 110 miles min, competent big bikes can do this no problem. Takes about 3 hours. Reply here if interested. I ride this and similar routes fairly often. Last time I posted this I saw a reply about it being too hot in the desert. I ride OW most weekends in the summer and have never felt anywhere near that hot on this route. Anyone who wants to join should have their bike in good order, tools, lots of water, etc.
  7. I could go if you were doing this ride Saturday. Might do something similar + some ABDSP early Saturday.
  8. Planning on riding out of Ramona 10AM tomorrow and welcome company. North on FS dirt roads, then over to ABDSP for Grapevine. Maybe cut across Ocotillo Wells and a bit more ABDSP. Intermediate pace. Minimum 110 miles, max up to 200 + ( may be a bit warm for that). Short loop is big bike friendly (bit of sand on lower portion of grapevine) and takes just under 3 hours. If interested post here. Recommend at least 4 gal fuel and spares, water, snacks, etc. Brian
  9. Most likely riding with my daughter Sunday so gotta get my dual sport ride in tomorrow. Could meet at Pamo/Orasco (first road to the left after going down the hill by the dump) at 10AM if interested. Could go as early as 9 if that helps.
  10. Planning on riding out of Ramona Saturday 3/14. Route: Meet Pamo Rd/ Orasco at 1000. Moving by 1015. Black Mountain to top, cut over trail/road to Black Canyon on way down, Black Canyon to Mesa Grande, 76, 79, S2, S22, Culp-Grapevine, 78, Wynola, 78, Old Julian Highway back to Ramona. This route is roughly 110 miles, half dirt, with no fuel stops along the way. Would like to keep it moving with a couple of brief snack/rest stops. Should take roughly 4 hours. Most of the route is big bike friendly but expect a couple of miles of sand on the lower part of Grapevine near the 78. I don't recommend this as a noob ride since I want to keep it moving and it's a good bit of distance to cover for a new rider. If interested reply here. If you decide to go have your bike in good shape and carry your own tools, spares, food, water, etc. I'd recommend a minimum of 4 gal gas for this. Brian
  11. How about 0830 at Pamo Rd/Orasco? I'll be on a black/white 690 Enduro.
  12. I see folks parked along Pamo Road every time I go through there. Couple of weeks ago there were two trucks loading bikes on the far side of Pamo at Orasco as I headed home at dusk. There's also a lot of pull off room down by Black Mountain Truck Trail. Believe that once you pass the dump you're in the forest so you might need an adventure pass.
  13. Ended up wrenching this afternoon. Will definitely head out in the morning (Sun). I can start anywhere between 8a and 10a if that works for anyone. Probably stick to the route above, maybe add more dirt to the east if anything. Let me know if interested.
  14. Probably head out around 2p. Anyone? Anyone?
  15. Sooooo, 9AM and no takers. I think I'll do a couple of errands and ride a bit later in the day. Would be cool to have a riding buddy or two. Let me know if you want to get a good ride in.
  16. looks like I was a day late ,,, as usual
  17. Last minute I know. Been sick the past week and as of 1130 today know I'm feeling pretty good and want to get a ride in. Thinking meet Pamo rd / Orasco at 2p and ride Black Mtn to top/ on way down cut across to Black Canyon and double back. This ride is easy dirt roads. Open to other options as long as they include lots of dirt.. If interested PM or reply here by 1PM and show up with proper tools, riding gear, spares etc. Brian
  18. I am interested in this ride. Will confirm in the morning if able to make it out.
