  1. Paging Dr.Bowers, Dr. Slut: I'd really like to do that Noob ride again. Weather permitting,of course. I'm not familiar enough to attempt to lead, so would one of you kind gentlemen please lead another one? I'm going over those rocks like a BOSS this time! And if this area isn't good, then anywhere. Please?
  2. It's supposed to rain, but if it's not pouring, I'm in. Thinking Major's for breakfast 8ish, cul-de-sac at 9. Shall I make a new post?

    Happy Birthday Tdublady

Not THOSE words-these: And as a new rider, you will drop it. WILL you WILL DROP IT They echoed in my head for a very long time. You didn't say I might or there's a good chance. You said no doubt I would drop it. But I haven't. So until I'm not a new rider anymore and your eat those words or I go down, the middle finger flies.

    Happy Birthday Tdublady

Haha. If a single finger salute means you've ridden safely and sanely, I'll take it every time! Happy Birthday! It does! And I intend to give you one annually until I lay it down or you eat your words, whichever comes first! Haha and thank you. ;-P

    Happy Birthday Tdublady

THANKS guys!! Most importantly, it's my 2 year M1 anniversary! I'm only 2 in bike years-got LOTS of riding to do! So far no tickets or crashes; and due to that, I'd like to offer Vacman a hearty, happy 1 finger salute today!
  6. Fair enough. We'll see what the others have to say....
  7. Mr.Bowers, you didn't answer my question. Are we talking a fine or jail/confiscation? I also realize there are other factors(time of day,day of week, group size and attitude, etc)and I like it there enough to risk a "talking-to" for the ride.HOWEVER, I don't want to lead everyone to the shark's mouth, either. Can we have a GROUP vote, please? Majority rule.
  8. 100% support your decision. Sounds like they handled it well. The n00b ride may be an interesting one. Seriously, what's the worst case scenario? I saw on the news last night that Marines have confiscated bikes from the Santee Lakes area recently! I'm not into paying fines or silver bracelets. Happy to drive to McCain instead if it ensures my freedom and a positive bank balance.

    KTM or KLR?

I am SUPER excited to report that my man(Todd) is ready to turn the BMW K1200 into a dual sport bike. He's digging(as we all do) the look of the KTM. I feel the KLR may be more practical and reasonable. Would appreciate any good advice, tips, suggestion y'all have to offer. Thanks in advance!

    KTM or KLR?

I'd love a TW 300, even! Just so my hands/feet don't go tingly as soon. Although the new sprockets have helped a little. I think some of the guys on the big bike secretly envy it sometimes because it's so easy to ride. I'd love it if it got one-I don't think you could beat the price/fun ratio, really, with much of anything.

    Super Sunday

It WAS a super Sunday! Weirrider was very gracious to put up with me for an entire day. I appreciate all his help and hard work with loading/unloading the bikes. They sat pretty nicely back there together. We had a nice breakfast at Major's in Pine Valley, and stopped at the Candy Cottage on the way in.YUM While Bluhdow and Weirider did a loop, I got warmed up and did some practice. 1kstep gave me some great tips and inspiration-thanks. I also watched some trials riders for a bit-fascinating, to say the least. It was all great fun-350 was VERY entertaining, although I don't think I ever got see a jap-slap or whatever it was. Maybe next time.... Personally, I am proud to say: 1.I had very little "death grip"this time.I caught it quickly and corrected immediately,so no arm pump or sore hands. 2. I'm really getting the hang of weighting my pegs appropriately. (Gotta work on shifting while standing.) 3. Totally digging whoops now that I got the body position for them correct. 4. Main road no problem. Relaxed, even when it squirreled around a bit. Enjoyed the downhills more than ever. I think Jim said I was close a reasonable speed on the way back. Was a really great time all around. Can we go again this Sunday?

    KTM or KLR?

Before this turns completely into a Vstrom thread.... Let me first say thank you for all the input! It's been amazing to read and share with Todd. I will try earnestly to not make this reply longer than necessary, yet cover everything. I have come to realize that men shopping for motorcycles is like women shopping for shoes: it's a process, and each has to do it their own way. First there's Todd: He's 5'9" and muscular, prob 180. He's been riding since he was a kid, I would call him skilled easily. He can ride anything, and is one to adapt himself to whatever vehicle, as opposed to modifying said vehicle to him. He doesn't test drive/ride stuff, never has. We have a full shop and abilities to do most any maintenance here. Next, "trading the pig for the pork": A very valid point to consider. Really no need to keep the big bike. We won't be taking any long trips on it, now that the camper truck has its new life(google "massaged metal if you wanna see) and the little trailer is set up. He used to do 3-4 week long trips around the US, Canada and Mexico with a buddy, but there won't be an opportunity to do that again for at least 4 years. We agree the ideal is to go somewhere, set up camp with the truck, then be able to bike everywhere. That could be street, hwy, dirt, or any combination. Again, no, he's not ever even gonna consider a TW. Just won't. I do, eventually hope to move to something bigger-but I'll never get rid of my TW. Just won't. Ultimately, I think he's gonna pick what he picks, regardless of logic-and I totally get that. I will keep you updated on his search. He keeps coming back to that KTM 500EXC, I'm pretty sure we're getting something orange.

    Lark Sunday 1-10-16

I'm quite happy circling the big tree for now, thank you very much! Haha
  18. San Diego BMW is doing a ride from their shop out to Superstition for some big bike/beginner dirt instruction and drills. My TW can't handle the whole ride out and back, so I'm gonna load the truck and meet them out there. Leaving Lakeside around 9:30. Taking 8 east to the Ocotillo exit where the Chevron station,Lazy Lizard, etc are. Unload, gear up and wait for the group to arrive around 11. We're then taking Evan Hewes to Huff Rd. Drills and ride are supposed to last a couple of hours. I have room for another bike if anyone has interest. I can also forward/post the detail they posted...

    KTM or KLR?

NEVER selling my TW! It'll make a fine pit/buddy bike forever. Big bike can go-my days on the back have passed for awhile. Prefer to take the camper truck and trailer bikes on vacations now. Love the idea of his/hers DRZs, but not sure he'll go for that. And that's a whole nother can of worms-there's S, SE, SM,on and on with those damn letters that I don't know what they mean! Which is which? What is what?
  21. TdubLady

    KTM or KLR?

He knows if he gets a DRZ I already have lowering links-I'll take it over when he's not looking.

    KTM or KLR?

You're a big help, but WHICH KTM? If money weren't an object and most maintenance could be done at home?
  24. TdubLady

    KTM or KLR?

He is enamored of the 1190R Adventure he saw at Vey's. Something we can take on vacations in the trailer and go exploring w my TW, probably. Hell, you know how you guys are when you get the "I wants"! LOL
